Second time in three weeks I've had to cut short my game of golf to rescue a sick hedgehog. Why can't they be more considerate and only collapse around the final hole?

You did a good thing.

The fact that office 365 pesters me about the reminders I have been putting off for days when I log in to check something.

How do you know we aren't being played like balls in a cosmic game of crazy golf by giant intergalactic space hedgehogs?

No one would have believed in the last years of the nineteenth century that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than man's and yet as mortal as his own; that as men busied themselves about their various concerns they were scrutinised and studied, perhaps almost as narrowly as a man with a microscope might scrutinise the transient creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. With infinite complacency men went to and fro over this globe about their little affairs, serene in their assurance of their empire over matter.

Yet across the gulf of space, minds that are to our minds as ours are to those of the beasts that perish, intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic, regarded this earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely drew their plans against us.

Wow yr the first person I know who's suckered into subbing for it. All that money every year and you get nothing as soon as you stop paying.

Buy an old 2010 or something :)

War of the worlds. Great musical. With Richard burton narrating.

Not quite. I have office 2010 on my work PC (I binned 2013 on the basis that MS broke office) but if I want to see my work emails I can log in via office 365 to save time on bothering with remote desktop.

Office Professional 2013, 1 PC per license - $399.99
Office 365 Home, 5 PC's per license - $99.99 per year

Office Pro for 5 PC's - $2000 one time cost... you get 20 years of o365 for the same price...
I don't know about you but i would like to upgrade my Office suit a little more often then every 20 years.

Or you can go Office 365 Personal, 1 PC per license - $69.99 per year and get about six years equivalent out of one Office Pro license - so it is cheaper even if you skip every second version as Office comes out roughly ever 3-4 years (Microsoft has hinted that they will decrease the release cycle and come out with newer versions more often).

I am using Office 2010 pro myself currently, but that's just because i got a partner deal from my old job and paid €10 for it :)

does personal get you excel, powerpoint and word cos that's basically all I use? I too have the hardcore office versions of 2010, and also via the "have a great deal so we can lock you in to our product range even more" MS dealy thingy.

I use Word for work documents and excel for the same thing, I have no need for any presentation stuff, so it suits me fine

I've mostly been using Google's offerings recently tbh although, for proper DTP stuff, I will always turn to InDesign.

$400 for 2013 pro! that's madness. 2013 is diabolical. I actually think that 2010 is so good there is little point in upgrading, pretty much ever. (from an excel point of view)

2013 is fine for my usage and as there is zero point in using anything other than Office 365 from a business perspective I am perfectly fine with it. I have it on my Work PC, Work Laptop, Home Laptop, Tablet and my iPhone and for Office Enterprise that costs £15 a month (unless you work for a Microsoft Partner then it's free) which can we ditch whenever you like. As they are getting rid of SBS (Essentials edition does not bundle Exchange) you can tell they are really pushing people to use the free Exchange Mailboxes that come with Office 365. As a small business why would you buy an Exchange server when you can get a free Exchange server hosted by Microsoft just for buying Office. Also with the capacity of OneDrive for Business increasing to 1TB per user and still being bundled it can pay for itself by getting rid of a Dropbox subscription.

And they are not stopping there. We had a guy in last week that hinted they are working on something called "Install to Cloud" so you can use a little low powered tablet and install AutoCad to Cloud and all of the graphics and processing will be done by a virtual server. They think it will end up bundled with 365 and you will get different amounts of capacity based on the package you buy.

I just don't like the way they have over tabletised (new word!) everything. It just looks shit, there are no new functions but they have made everything more boxy and slidy and less clear. Hard to explain really but as someone who uses excel a lot (report writing, Microsoft AX database analysis etc) it is horrific. Its like taking something that is excellent and then running it over with a make crap machine.

Even down to the way it fruit machines sums for some pointless graphical quirk. Also the tabs at the bottom are massive and awkward to navigate.

I hate it, a lot.

I can't say I have noticed but the first thing I do is hide the ribbon and then normally use short keys for what I want so never really see it.

And the fact that if you own the PS3 version of The Last of Us on PSN the fabled discount on the PS4 version has gone away.

I use 2010, 2013 and 365, whilst 2013 and 365 had several annoying bugs including CTD in Excel and Access when doing anything more than basic shit, it is a lot better now. Not had a single crash in months and they both offer many perks over 2010. I do a lot statistical reporting and the graphing functions in Excel (2013/365) are a massive improvement over 2010.

Use 365 on the laptops ( Me x 2, Son x 2, Wife x 1) as I replace them every two to three years and I can stay with the same license and get the latest version easily for 99 USD a year. Bargain in my eyes. Regardless of the hate it is industry standard. Whilst I have tried Open Office etc. it simply does not have all the functions I need and does not convert the complicated statistical multi sheet stats I run very well. Things like pivot tables don't convert at all well, so no choice by to use office at work and home.
