I always smile at phone battery comparisons. They mean nothing, my phone could be working harder to keeps its signal and use 80% of its battery sat without me touching it all day.

I have a cradle to it sits on beside my bed which makes sure I charge it every night as it is part of my ritual :)

Dont you use your phone at all? My S4 Active needs a recharge every night

Unless I use Endomondo for a ten hour ride I pretty much only have to charge every other night - and I read a lot on my phone. It's an S3 tho...

Playing 6 hours of CIV V, getting about 180 turns in and a bug in the game keeps declaring war on another civ for me, completely randomly.

Mine: Buying Civ V (vanilla) in the Steam sale and when I get round to downloading it, I get the message: You are ready to play gods and kings. I don't want fucking gods and kings, I want Civ. 2 weeks later... still no response from Steam support other than: "SCREENEEZE PLEAZE"

My nokia "old hotness" lasts about 3-4 days :p

Doesn't have a touchscreen, or much of a camera, or fancy FB connectivity stuff, or porn that much, but it's a phone for texting and calling. You know, a phone.
Oh Lord Toto, you're so wise and progressive by not buying into the smartphone market.

They've got every right to bitch about it tbh. A number of zoos said they could take this 100%, perfectly healthy giraffe off Copenhagen Zoo's hands but they insisted that he was a risk because of inbreeding, even in a zoo several thousand miles away. It sounds like they really had it in for him tbh.

It was a humane killing, like any other animal killed for food.

It was just unnecessary and only done for publicity.

I last charged my S4 on Sunday evening. 83% battery atm.

Oh and I don't know if it's true but the IT guy at work said that charging them via the USB plugged into a PC is better for the phone because it is a nice steady clean source of power. Slower but better.

That's actually what I do; my phone goes straight into the USB socket as soon as I arrive at work. Doesn't seem to do any good though.

Healthy animal killed before all alternatives were exhausted you can see why they would ask questions. However they found more value in using it as a learning experience and recycling the animal and feeding lions which is a choice they can make.

It was done in a humane way so I am not going to jump up and down over it.

The lions had to be fed anyway. Could Have slaughtered a cow or a pig, and no one would have raised an eyebrow. But because it was a giraffe everyone is going crazy! The kids got to learn about the anatomy of a huge animal and the lions were fed a meal from their natural habitat. Cost free and no hassle with transfer and huge expenses. Cph Zoo did the right thing imo

Wrong!

The Giraff was killed due to regulations about breeding. (standard practice)
Cph Zoo only released a pressrelease after the story broke.

NO they bloody dont!

Not really no.
15.000 Dogs are put to sleep every year in DK alone (god knows how many in UK), usually because some fuck(s) cant be bothered to take care of it anymore. I don't see any media bitchery about that + what CornZ said.
- Did he get smarter over night btw? must be that fatherhood thing ;)

I said I am not that fussed about it btw.

But some Giraffes are on the endangered species list. The others are in decline across Affrica. So they are not the same as Dogs. Like I said already though killing it to feed lions is an excuse I am happy with.

Why? Do people think interbreeding doesn't happen all the time in the wild or something?

No point in being part of the problem.

Put the fucker down, feed the lions. Job done.

What problem? Plenty of zoo animals are generally interbred at some point or another, or their ancestors were.

No, this was done to kick up a stink and get coverage. Worked too.

Yeah, because zoos want coverage about animal slaughter.

If the zoo is involved in conservation there's a good chance that they breed-to-reintroduce. If that's the case here then A) it's expensive to keep a genetically compromised animal for no reason and; B) lions love giraffe. :)

The scientists would say otherwise.

And this giraffe wasn't and could never be allowed to be breeding stock...
I may have missed something but he could have been breeding stock at any of the other zoo's that offered to take him right?

They don't much care what coverage they get. No such thing as bad publicity.

I imagine their gate receipts have gone through the roof since this happened.

If they cared about breeding the animal stock then a swap deal with another zoo would have helped them and the other zoo, they would both have new genes introduced into their pools. Yeah the Lions need feeding but there is more than enough meat available for zoos.

Nope. It just perpetuates bad gene pool and makes it more likely that it gets passed on.

The scientists took a decision and killed it and fed it to the lions. I'm fine with that tbfh. Seems sensible. Despite me being a massive bleeding heart liberal when it comes to animal rights.

No he could not have been used for bredding anywhere else.
On a second note: The breeding stock is regulated by a central european database.

All this really is, is yet another pile of superimposed, detached Buffalo Compost

I am fine with that too. I just don't see a problem with people being angry about it. They said they had to kill it so it did not inbreed there. So sending it to another Zoo seems to be the answer. They should have traded it for another male from a different zoo and a different gene pool. That kind of thing could ensure the all the zoos have varied gene pools?

Where is that from? In the news here it is being reported that a zoo in England wanted it for breeding there is nothing saying he could not be sent anywhere for breeding.

The giraffe was already inbred. So it already has an inbred genetic structure - further allowing that to breed just passes on the result of that genetic fuck up.

Kill it. Feed lion. Angry people are dumb.

Edit:

Not all zoos in England perform conservation activities. Could be one of them tbh - so the gene pool doesn't get to the wild.

However, being a bleeding heart animal rights liberal I think those zoos should be shut down - so they can fuck off if they're getting an animal for free just to profiteer.

Either way, kids got to see a dissection, lions got fed. Win-win.
