How much extra would that cost do you reckon, how many £60 fines are issued (For driving offences alone!) a year? How many people would they need to employ just to process and work out fine amounts? It would swallow up any income generated by fines. Sounds like some lefty idea to employ more chair testers in the public sector, Blair would be proud!

A flat rate for all is the easiest and cheapest way to go.

Billionaire gets caught speeding, just once?

Pays for the lot, tbfh.

It's also the most unfair, unfortunately

This. 100%.

All the rich people will just hire drivers.

Which in itself isn't a terrible thing. More jobs.

Also drivers knowing they are replaceable wont break the law for the boss, they will make them think they are, but aren't.
For example I was discussing something similar with a driver i had in a previous job. When a client would say "We are late, can you go a bit faster" they'd say "Yes sir" but just brake harder and tighter in the corners to give the illusion.

It is a fucking stupid idea and disagree all you want Scouse. But for someone who loves to get on a soap box about our civil liberties being stripped away I find it hilarious that you are happy for some random civilian worker at the Police force to have full access to all of your finical information without a Judges warrant. Just to asses how much to fine you.

HMRC have access to my financial information on income, holdings etc. And they're just collecting tax, not punishing me for criminal wrongdoing.

What you're arguing for is a system that punishes the poor, whilst the rich laugh their arses off and continue to act in the same manner.

I am not arguing for anything I am saying the system as is should not be changed for a system where some nobody at the police station access all of my financial information and then decides to give me a disproportionate fine. To make the rich feel it you will need to take a high percentage of the money they have. Taking the same percentage from a poor or middle class person could mean not paying the mortgage.

Your system screws the everyone just to attack the rich.

You clearly are.

I am saying the system as is should not be changed for a system where some nobody at the police station access all of my financial information and then decides to give me a disproportionate fine.

It wouldn't have to work that way. And independent assessor (even the HMRC) could assess that.

To make the rich feel it you will need to take a high percentage of the money they have. Taking the same percentage from a poor or middle class person could mean not paying the mortgage.

I've already explained the maths of it - which has already refuted this nonsense. But I'll cover it again:

If your <base level fine> for <whatever criminal act> = £1000, then that fine has been set at a level that the average person can afford.

If the average person has <whatever the average holdings are> and gets fined £1000 then a person with twice the average holdings gets fined £2000.

If someone has ten thousand times the holdings of the average person then their fine should clearly be ten thousand times the base fine - or the punishment is laughably non-existent.

Your system screws the everyone just to attack the rich.

Two things: 1) The average person is clearly completely unaffected.

2) It's not attacking the rich - it's making sure they're subject to the same justice as the rest of us.

This solves the problem of the rich laughing at their punishment - because many of them would spend 20 times the amount above on a bottle of wine...

Scouse wants everyone to earn the same amount of money, drive the same car, live in identical houses and go on the same holidays, regardless of the job they do whether work at all. It's not fair that people earn more than others.

That's utter fucking gash.

This argument is about wanting everyone to be subject to the same justice and punishment.

They are...

Edit, perhaps old people shouldn't get as long in prison as youngsters. After all, the young have more years left.

You're not meant to break the law anyway, it's not exactly taxes is it? It's all about relativity, taking £70 for a parking ticket to a 'average' person would be bit of a kick in the teeth(back on original subjectLOLOL) But to a super rich person it's like -nothing- and they'll happily go on and rinse repeat, especially for 'celebrities' that are idols to some individuals who openly go around breaking the law because they don't give a shit.

Important fines (for driving) result in points on your license. Nobody gives a fuck about parking tickets really. Fines for public disorder and shit results in warnings then a criminal record.

Cunt parents who send their cunt kids to play in our cul-de-sac when they don't even live here. Nearly ran one of the little fuckers over earlier. Its only because I assumed the little bastards would still be there (at nearly 10PM) that I slowed to a crawl before I came around the corner. Thank God we rent, I don't think I'd ever want to buy a house an estate.

Home tonight. Can't really take too long away when you've got a couple of toddlers (who won't be sent to play on other people's streets when they're older).

I do. And most of the people who I know do.

My very well off brother in law and my very well off uncle, however, both rack up parking tickets like they're going out of fashion, because even if they were double the price they are now it's simply not enough of a monetary punishment for them to park on the other side of the road in a parking bay when they want to go to <insert stupid eatery or shop here>...

The rich literally park where they like. The value of the monetary punishment is insufficient to change their sometimes dangerous habits.

Is it Finland where they fine traffic offences based on your net worth?

That true?

If so. Good on 'em. It'd probably be down to the fact that they're one of the most well-educated countries in the world.

I don't see how anyone could argue against fines being based on net worth. It's not the same as tax.

It would have to have a sensible upper bound though.

It''s not a clear cut thing etc and there are limits both ways, but yeah.

It's a "dayfine" if you will, basically you pay days of pay. Large pay, lage fine. No job, still i think it's 20€/day. So a speeding ticket might be 4 dayfines.
