Trem wtf, I could have sorted this in ten minutes you cow.

As the others say, install plex on the server, plex home theatre on the htpc and there's almost nothing you have to do them other than add shares. You have to try and view the film in plex home theatre tho, not the web client.

Download plex remote from play store and done. Also for the love of tiny baby jebus, get remote desktop/vnc running so you don't need to sneak into her bedroom any more

I think this is all a problem with the Plex app on a TV and the one on my Samsung is utter shit too.

You get the impression when Plex is talked about that it just works and is flawless but I think you do need Home Theater and a HTPC the Apps on a lot of devices are not that great.

@babs I will by the weekend chum but as you know THE FUCKING BR HASN'T ARRIVED YET (actually cancelled the bastard last night and ordered another off Ebay for delivery tomorrow, should be sorted Friday, shit that reminds me best get a wireless mouse ordered). It isn't her bedroom, it's our bedroom where the server is but because she has found a new weapon to sleep in mummy and daddies bed (projectile vomitting) she is in there for now.

@soze aye, it really is a lot of faffing that XBMC does straight away but I do want the extra shiny bits that Plex comes with when my HTPC is up and running, thing is I aren't worried about going back to XBMC, not worried at all. We shall see.

It's Plex Home Theatre running on an OpenElec base. It is the sex because

1. Linux stability
2. RasberryPi 1080p output
3. Plex server does the donkey work so no XBMC library updates to chug through

Well worth 30 minutes play if you have a spare SD card.

Plex seems to be playing things better now on the HTPC but still a couple of niggles, firstly, why can't you have a bloody mouse cursor on screen to choose stuff from the menu and then have it disappear when the movie starts, also (and this is pissing me right the fuck off) why can you not exit it without going through alt tab then task manager? There is no fucking exit option that I can find anywhere (may be able to with a bastard mouse cursor).

It's a "10 foot interface", a mouse isn't an intended control device. Get Plex Remote for your phone and stop whining!

Although, to be fair, I did work this out by accident so I'll retract the fucking noob comment. This time. I guess they were trying to keep it as clean as possible and putting the preferences and quit options off to the left was a good option.

I have a little wireless keyboard with a little mousepad on it but no, not for Plex, for Plex I now have to have my phone as well. What a stupid fucking idea I suppose it is for the people who aren't using a HTPC, well, that isn't me so fuck them.

You can use the wireless keyboard just as easy, just use the keys and not the mouse bit, works exactly the same as the phone would.

Now my fiddling is at a stop because it is Max and Ruby time again.....*sigh* Next job is to sort the telly out in the other room for the daughter so I can get mine back.

Actually my Fred was having a moment with his favourite My Little Pony and it all ended up with him being confused by the whole thing and he went and lay somewhere else.

So I will be giving Plex another try. I have just pre-ordered one of these for £49 and seemingly it has much better format support than my Roku 3 did. If it does play locally and doesn't transcode then I will give Plex another go. If not I will load XBMC on it and lose Plex again haha.

Ah Plex, so good for traveling.

Not sure if free wifi in the hotel where i'm away. Onto the Plex app, pin some films and TV series. All copied over onto my phone, no hassel, 20 seconds of effort and 18 hours of TV just incase no wifi and i can't stream it.
