Ah Plex, so good for traveling.

Not sure if free wifi in the hotel where i'm away. Onto the Plex app, pin some films and TV series. All copied over onto my phone, no hassel, 20 seconds of effort and 18 hours of TV just incase no wifi and i can't stream it.
I use the same functionality to watch things on the commute to work.

Plex people, is it possible to show Movies in series like in XBMC? Like when you just get the Dr Who Collection not all the individual films.

From memory it's dependent on how your files are sorted, mine aren't stored in that manner so I can't.

Right time for a bump.

I got an XBox One at the weekend and have it all set up with my Harmony Remote. I have not decided to play with Plex again. And I have a questions if any of you have an XBox One and can answer that will be great.

Can I get a list up of just Unwatched TV? At the moment i can see recently added Episodes but if I want to watch Criminal Minds seaon 10 episode 20. I have to go to TV>Browse>Scroll to Criminal Minds>Scroll to Season 7>Scroll to Episode 20>Select>Play. Which is massivly long winded. It also goes back to Episode 1 when when you finish an Episode.

Not near mine at the moment but from the Android app you should be able to switch to Episodes rather than Shows and then filter by Unwatched

And does that change what you see on the TV or do you control yours via your phone?
Mostly by the phone. I don't have an xbone

In the more recent Plex version, you can put in extra info for Movies under the title "Sort Title". At the moment these are just the same as the sort title. but if you edit them you can make ti list them all in a row. I've used this on a couple of series and it works nicely :)

So Kodi has a sort feature or an add on thing, anyway I have a folder called Kids which has all the kids films in etc, but what Kodi did was put the cover for the grim skateboard sex film Kids on every file in that folder :-(

Wow thats pretty harsh.

If you keep them in a separate folder in your media Lib, you can setup Plex to index them separately as a new Library. Dont know if your kids are old enough or have there own devices, but you can setup a home network add your kids account and give them the kids Lib only, so they can't play the adult movies when noones around....not sure if thats what you are looking for?

In all honesty it may of been me, is it something called a scraper on Kodi? Anyway I ticked something because I was being mithered and it was when I was setting up the Amazon Fire stick, I just don't know if it's undoable now. I do have Plex installed on there as well but it will not play anything at any sort of watchable rate (yes I know it gets boring me saying it but it's true) which fucks me off because at least at one point I had the same server as Meg :/

I got another Fire Stick cheap and my boy will be having this in his bedroom (he's 10) and if that is something Plex does it will be something I need to sort out, sounds good, I really don't want him watching bad stuff although I don't think he will......will he?

Trem it sounds like you have you movie scrapper turned on with the option to scan by folder name. So When it saw the folder called kids it scrapped it as that title and applied the fan art. You can remove the library and turn this option off. Also you can run XBMC (called SPMC) on the Amazon stick. I have it on a few TV's in my house.

To seperate the kids stuff you want to have them in a seperate folder and then under files open the menu on the kids folder and tell it that it is TV / Films and let it scan. If you do not add your other folders they will not appear in the library.

Righto. I was wondering if you had an outdated version or something from sideloading. Humm

Can you stream Plex ok over wifi to a laptop?
Does it stream ok over cabled connections?

I ask as my folks stream from my server, now i have 3MB/s upload but they have 2nd Gen ADSL, 400KB/s down top speed, and they Direct Play or Direct Stream my content most of the time, so theres almost no server load, just bandwidth....

I use Plex on my own computer, source being the torrents folder, obviously. Subfolders with TV Shows, Movies, Porn, streaming over wifi to my Samsung 46' tv.

Before using wifi, I was also mistrusting, so i deployed structured cabling to all common points around the flat, but i never needed the rj45 socket, over wifi it just works. Plex porn category aptly named "Settings", and pin requirement enabled for opening Plex, so no risk of guests or family stumbling over that.

I'm all wired and also wireless when experimenting, you know I hate plex but it isn't because I want to, I want to use it and I have tried dozens of times. I just don't get it.

Different devices as well, tv's, blu ray players, consoles just everything plays stuttery, try kodi and it's perfect. Not the files either, tried them all, mkv, divx, vob, etc.

Then I come on here and rant about it because I'm so frustrated by something that I do actually want to use for ease and for ease for the family.

Edit - will try on laptop in a bit.

Whats your media server out of interest? I'm just really confused as to why tis stuttering so much for you :/

The HP Micro server the one that had the £100 cash back deal, Meg had one and I think Ch3t did. I have an Asus router that is meant to be one of the worlds fastest at wireless (?) and I have Netgear switches for the wired connections.

I tried it on my HTPC which is pretty up to date and has a really good gfx card (to my mind) and it stuttered on that @Poag so....buh? Like some codec thing maybe? Oh, different OS as well, Windows 8.1 now and 7 before, I wonder if I could try it on Linux somehow......might need to bum Teedles for that to happen.

Is it direct playing files or transcoding them? You can tell by bringing up the info bar while something's playing.

Same as what i've got. Hummm....

OK some elimination, stick Plex on something else temporarily, see if it stutters from that. If it does then the problem is probably network or endpoint related. If it doesn't then the config of your server may need checking, but i dont know what could have been set to make it crap out.......only think i can think of is tweaking the transcoder settings? or the buffer......

Also when playing something bring up Task Manager on the Micro Server and see if the CPU is being beasted by PlexNewTranscode or similar. If you have Plex Home Theater installed on your Windows HTPC it should not be transcoding anything though.

Plex has started being a bit homo for me as well recently - it seems very hit and miss whether any non-Plex clients will pick up the DLNA Server. DLNA is switched on, but at the moment the only thing that will talk to it is the Plex Web Client on another PC. Phone, TV, PS etc - none of them want to know that it's there. Have tried connecting using the Plex App rather than the Music Player on my phone - no joy.

Is this likely to be because my Media Server is currently hooked up via wireless due to the Powerline Adapter issues I've been having?

Probably. WiFi and media servers in general is a bit iffy.....

Powerline Adapter issues?

Oh aye, when I plug one into the wall, rather than seeing the network downstairs, I see the neighbour's network instead! Tried updating the encryption key from default, but that failed, so am stuck with WiFi until I can get some new adapters (they are 6 years old and getting a bit flaky).

Can someone explain how Kodi works? I finally got around to getting a box few week ago and been playing around with several channels, although i have to say i'm somewhat... "unimpressed" by it. A lot of comments seemed to stem from forums saying how good it is, and if there is issues it might be setup incorrectly, but part of me is thinking "hmm, still undecided..."

Channel wise, i can't seem to get 1channel/Ice working at all, either on my PC or on the box itself. Since i'm on Virgin, i have heard they might be blocking the channel, since the channel lists are empty. I have had ZenMate on my extentions on Chrome, but even changing country doesn't seem to do jackall.

A lot of buffering seems to be occurring when watching TV shows on channels such as Genesis, and i can not watch ANY football channels, the match yesterday i watched about 5 seconds worth before the channel stopped working pemanently, even flicking through other lists didn't help.

Lastly, a lot of old age TV shows (I used to love the original Unsolved Mysteries) is viewable in the channel lists, episodes present etc etc - But then when i go to watch them, no one is streaming. So why in Mary is it showing me on the channel lists giving me hope!
