PC subwoofer made strange noise when PC was off. No longer works?

Something super strange happened this evening... I was watching a movie on my TV, PC was off. Music started playing in the movie, and my Creative 5.1 Subwoofer started making some odd noises, not repetitively, up and down in intensity and volume. I moved the subwoofer and disconnected the subwoofer from the speakers. Now, 2 hours later, the subwoofer is not working, but speakers still are. It's all connecting to the PC via the same cable.

Anyone got any ideas? Or should I just look at buying new ones? The actual sound system is pretty old, but they sat in the box I bought them, for almost 5 years, and have been in use for about a year.

Sounds like a loose cable in the subwoofer to me. Had something similar happen. If possible, try removing the speaker element and see if a cable is damaged/loose. Could just be an easy fix.
