I mean in relation to what we could have seen if a team with less defensive orientation was at England's place. But tbh England were the best team in group b so they deserved to be there. They are a good team, i just didn't really enjoy their playstyle against equally skilled opponents.

It's errikson mainly, the man has spent too long in the Italian league and his poor Italian-influenced tactics lost us the match. (shouldn't have, but they did)

23 fouls for England and 11 for Spain at one point, if I recall; this is hardly how England plays. If England were a dirty team, then I wouldn't watch them.

Before you talk about Beckham's free-kick, can you please tell me in all honesty you actually looked at the penalty spot? Come on, C.Ronaldo was jumping on it with 2 feet to level it out, Beckham had the odds stacked against him.

Cole was my man of the match, he played his heart out... and I think Lampard showed the true English spirit, coming through when we needed it most and scoring to equalise in extra time. How many teams can you see that could have done the same?

Now can you please ignore the hooligans, all they do is go to a match, get drunk and throw their fists about. Look past the hooligans and you'll find that English fans are among the most passionate in the world.

I feel sorry for Campbell tbh, he always puts 110% into England and when it looks like he will get some glory out of it it always seems to be snatched away from him. :(

I agree that Cole played extremely well. His marking on C. Ronaldo was very good.

Imo worse England players were James and Beckham, James is not even close to being the English gk and Beckham is not fit for a captain. He just doesn't give 101% of what he has, he doesn't run at all (that's why he was playing better at et, because everyone had slowed down to his pace) and it seems like he is afraid someone kicking him, he avoids confronting opponents too much.

Cole, Campbell and Owen played very well today imo. Owen did everything he could but due to Ericsson's tactics he was terribly alone at front.

Beckham has been poor ever since the media have been on his back about his affair. I think it's been fucking with his head a bit.

Phil Neville replacing Paul Scholes as a CENTRAL MIDFIELDER, and moving Steven Gerrard out on the left side..

Come on, get real.

And I kinda miss the point of substituting Gerrard later on. Like saving him for the semi-finals? He did not seem tired at all. Did Sven sub him to avoid a red card or something?

Kinda need to qualify for the semis first :\

I think him being slightly tired and the fact that he might go in for a sloppy challenge due to all of the pressure we were under at the time both contributed to his substitution.

Tbh the big problem of England from the start is the lack of a solid left midfielder and they put Gerrard and Scholes to play there even if they don't seem fit for the position. Trying to play 4-4-2 as most if not all teams are playing at the tournament without good players on the sides is a big problem.

I honestly believe Gareth Barry could do quite good on the left side.

(Yes, I'm a Villa fan)

Barry, Lampard, Gerrard and Beckham. My lineup.

Edit: I'd replace Beckham if I was to play Owen+Vassell on top though, but that would never happen (Read: Beattie+Rooney)

Not really sure about Barry tbh, I don't think he'd be able to hack it at international level. Problem with England is that we can never produce decent wingers, that coupled with our poor defending of crosses of late is worrying.

I never believed that Vassell ever would make it to the Villa starting-lineup.

And all of a sudden he was in the England squad, and scored on a bicycle-kick in his debut!

Haven't done all that since then, but stilll.

Barry deserves a chance. He's been fantastic this season.

Anyways, I'm off to bed now, hopefully won't have any nightmares about penalties or disallowed goals. :p

Ah well, there's always 2006, maybe we can win the world cup on German soil - that'd be much sweeter than anything else. :)

        G.Johnson Campbell Terry Bridge

                              Hargreaves

        Beckham Lampard Gerrard J.Cole

We would have had Ryan Giggs flying down the left wing if it wasn't for turnip taylor picking Tony Daley ahead of him and thus making Giggs choose Wales over England.

TONY FUCKING DALEY!

I find it pathetic that your team is obviously too shit to qualify for the championships so you take pleasure when England lose instead.

Baddiel and Skinner put it best tbh; they said that they find it pathetic that when England play, everyone watches and hope they lose, but if it's Wales, Ireland or Scotland playing, no one in England really cares. :)
