hehe i solod to about lvl 24 and was killing svarts in gna when i saw this fg of people purple to me running past, asked where they were going and was escorted to the circle at skona ravine. There i was invited into the guild in which i stayed for 3 yrs and met some of the best people in my life, /mil to realm defenders :worthy:

it'll take a while before you get to know everything, oooohh another cute thing about newbies is that they just spec randomly, they just put some cute spec points in f.e. fire magic and then think, gee I would love some ice too and ooh next lvl I'll take a sip of Earth to go with that

hehe as soon as i read this i remember my first every BDer, Coil, cute ickle valkyn mystic in aegir, nuking scimitat cubs and lost skeletons.

<runs up 2 a mob and staffs it, finishing on like 30% hp> a purp running by, watchs me kill the next 1. then teachs me about NUKING and my af buff etc. wow! so cool. <nukes next mob and staffs> WOW!!!! he explained about spec paths. i got confused and thought "omg these nukes r cool i dont wanna lose them> goes full dark BDer even though t lvl 4 i met Jort (miss u where did u go?) and he said full supps the best and i remember we went exploring, he was like lvl 8 i was lvl 7, and he decided we should head THAT DIRECTION, we ran off, i remember we found sum mamoths and chased them abit hehe, then we arrived at bjarken, wow! then we get on our horsies and ride back 2 aegir, and i remember seeing those purp pyslings around me as we rode, (we went exploring at night, not 2 easy with my crap graphics card) and he made a joke about me jumping from my horse in the middle of purp agro, omg so cool. hehe and then first time in vendo, musp, heck i even remember we decided 2 go 2 galplen once, kill myrkwood tree things. i dont remember what lvl i was, but it was late at night, and i had school etc, came home, rushed up 2 play this cool game as my uber BDer, /send jort hey : D what u doing? and he was like 3 lvls higher than me : O, he didnt go 2 work hehe, was so cool, : D i was so jelous hehe, and omg i miss being a noob exploring the sexy lads, the cool mobs, the uber drops (like that myrkwood one time heart drop thing, with cool stats hehe) ahhhh i wanna b new 2 daoc again.


oh and i still dont know way round mid hehe but its so cool

Daoc was my first mmorpg too, got it recommended to me by two m8s, Skrante the zerk/Halsbrann the shammy. When I first logged on, may 2002, I was on the phone constantly with those two so they could explain to me in detail how to turn around, how to zoom camera, how to run, etc.

My first char was a kobbie hunter - we started in Ft. Atla with weapons crafted by an extremely high level 3rd m8 (he was a lvl 30 zerk at the time) and went around killing stuff as 3 kobbie hunters lol. After that I soloed a lot around Mularn, up to level 14, when he was deleted, and I rolled a dwarf 2h zerk with ca 5 axe 7 parry at lvl 10. Can't fathom how I managed to level, tbh, with such gimped chars, gimped specs, no armour, no buffs

But yeah, I sure miss those days running around Ft. Atla killing everything we saw, and watching the xp pour in... it became a lot harder, lol. And oh, how I looked up to the purp chars I saw in Gna, took screenshots of everyone I saw in epic armour, got sick of jealousy when a m8 warrior (Grotestiqle in Defiance) showed me his glowing 2h weapon he had gotten, etc.. oh how I wanted a epic armour of myself.

Eventually I made a troll warrior, Klonk, and xp'ed in groups with *gasp* unknown ppl for the first time.. and I remember getting advice from Poon (on some shammy alt Pooneh) on warrior spec etc while grouping in Skona.. joined Odins Æresgarde (hi Sortbane/Dragev/Arnor/Meeka), Aesir's Blade (wru Eldergod?? ) and then whined my way into BC - via some Yar spot leveling and grouping with Crazy so many times in rvr that he HAD to accept me

Nowadays, if I level with m8s or my GF, we never set out without SC'ed crafted armour/weapons and at least one buffbot... have a much more mathematical attitude to xp-ing now, counting xp pr hour etc... the "magic" of pve is gone more or less..

pve last summer - get a fun grp with randoms (sometimes get 2 know 1-2 of them and look out for them coz they r cool ) and just have fun aoe pullin tempters, arachites, anything tbh hehe - every 1 wanting 50 so bad but HAVING SO MUCH FUN : .

pve this summer - camp modern with the same old same old every day with not much chat and not much fun.

c the change? tbh hope the modern nerf makes daoc more grping and FUN AGAIN

also know what ur on about with the sc etc, which is y i sometimes feel y not just xp with a sb in emerald seal armor like i first did (remember when u first learnt about emerald seals and emerald armor? oh how i loved 2 say "need 2 go 2 merchants in a minute guys almost got enough for a necky" "ok u able 2 get there solo or want a hand up?" "can stealth : )" "kk" Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee)

OMFG GIVE OLD DAOC WHERE I CAN LVL A CHAR AND HAVE FUN so sick of modern cant b arsed 2 even level traitors dagger tehre, or 7 levels on zerker or 10 levels on warrior or 13 lvls on my other sb or or omg just nerf it already, dieing 2 c how doac could return to the old ways of xp (atleast in midgard)

I remember at about lvl 18 being given a Cloak of the Blackheart by a necro called Deathcaster & 10g. Now I can't get stirred in my vault for the thing!

At about lvl 20 (I solod a lot) I was still trying to target stuff with my thurg by walked up to mobs pressing F8 until I could target them. Then a helpful mate called Mealin said 'why don't you just click on them?' Lol.

Of course although most noobs are cute & cuddly there are some real pains. The other day I was crafting in goth, a lvl 4 comes up to my 50 thurg and asked if my character had dmg buffs. After I said yes the conversation went something like:

noob: buff me!
Me: <continues to craft>
noob: buff me now!
Me: <continues to craft>
noob: I hate idlers!
Another: He's not idling you gimp
noob: buff me! buff me!
Me: Do you really expect to get buffs asking like that?
pause....
noob: buff me please
Me: Sooo much better. You keep doing that, you will have a much happier time in this game

A couple of people i know who joined AFTER SI didn't know where those places was simply because people don't play there anymore Rather than just dumping new stuff into the game I'd like to see mythic revamp the older places a bit

According to the blurb Sanya produced about the forthcoming Catacombs expansion, this is exactly what they intend to do. Re-do all the old original zones, more content, up to date graphics etc.

I once met a noob that went round aegir asking all the npc's to join his group any1 he met, he invited me and i told him i was lvl 50-therefore a bit too high for him and he was like "shut up are you level 50 thats like impossible" so i grpd with him and sarted killing myggas (or whatever there called) and he was wondering why they wernt giving him xp, reminded me of my noob days, daoc was so much more fun then :') you were s upprised at everything, i remember me and my m8 were seeing who could get the most gold, we were like "OMFG I GOT 2G HERE" and he was like "1G HERE" then some1 gave my m8 20g and i almost had a fit.
I used to think if you clicked on a person and did /s "XXXXXXX" then only that person could here you, i went round tnn asking every1 thinking only that person could here me, then some1 shouted at me in broad saying go work for my monney and stop begging. In the end i got so money hungry i begged every1 i saw, 5g wasnt enough i wanted MORE i couldnt get enough...10g whoa new weapon....12g.....omfg new helm.....20g....can dye stuff <hasa fit>.
And i never knew the difference with npc stuff and crafted, therefore i was always such a gimped hero, and oh how my memories take me back to my beloved Connla........

Runned around looking for ppl in vasud and mularn without
any luck. Then "Boooom" showed me SI and a bit of ToA.
After that i met "Sorciah" who helped me out alot that night.

I used to jump realms alot, when I got bit by the Thid bug.
Only had 1 acc so had to delete eatch time I wanted to try something new.

And I found that by acting, and talking about ingame stuff like a
newbie would people were alot more helpfull and generous towards me
(No I never asked for gold ! but I just started talking to people
about class choises, specs and the like. And they would almost always
offer to help.)

Oh yes, I remember those well times

was on excalibur albion, I was in this guild flemish lions and was constantly whining to get tailoring skill up on my tailor! (which was a level 10 minstrel, and my main was a level 13 cleric which soloed all his way up there , didn't know how to group and such), so I was SO happy to see the guild gather the 300G for an emblem and wanted to have one, so I read up what reqs you had to have to wear emblem, as I found level 20 so hard to obtain I started tailoring skill up on my minstrel.. I got 10G every day from our GM, heck, I even went to look for him in lyoness and cornwall for him to hand me the cash
Then, the magical 400 tailoring came and I had the emblem short after, I started lvling my minstrel up, and everyone looked up to me, like WOW you're level 10 with an emblem

I used to hand out like 300..400.500g to new players.
Ofcause if there were more at same spot it was only like 200.

Heh. I remember when I first logged on.. I created an alb sorcerer and started in Campacorentin Station in the Luthanis Association (or whatever it was called) building thing, with all those NPCs around me, and there were several real people too, all clueless.

That was golden.

I took a look around at the interface, shrugged, and walked to the nearest mob I could find and pressed F6. Nothing happend. Figured out that I must've deselected it somehow before pressing F6. Ah, yes. Good old times.

Later on, someone with a higher level character logged on a freshly made level 1 character and said we'd go and hunt oranges with a couple of others. I thought he/she was joking.. oranges... I prefer lemon-lime (joke).

So we went hunting.. and.. I dunno why, but, I don't think I used any spells or something.. I dunno. Then I slowly learned stuff, hit level 5, became a Sorcerer.. then the next day, it was kind of early and no-one of the earlier party was back online yet.

I decided that I wanted to see Camelot. Instead of farming some money to buy a horse ticket (is that even possible at those levels? Dunno), I walked to Camelot. Aye. Hugging the border.

So I got to Camelot and.. what then, I didn't know what Camelot could offer me, if anything at all? I entered camelot, looked around, some of those friends of the day before logged on and luckily a friend of mine came along and gave me 2 gold (WOW). So, I took the horse back, met up with those friends, and they wanted to go and see Camelot too.. So we went back again.

It's just all very silly. I recently went back to the forest, and it looked so incredibly big back then. It's weird. The whole world was.. new.. I didn't even know that there was RvR or anything. Meh.

They should really mass advertise for DAoC-EU and disable /level and encourage everyone to make a level 1 char in a different realm :-o

i remember my first days on hibernia. i attacked a small walking rock that was yellow con and it handed me my ass on a plate. but i released and returned to find 2 higher level peeps there. they asked me if i wanted to join and i agreed(who wouldnt) turns out they where level 5 and 6. i remember going wow wonder if i will get there soon. turns out they helped to level me to 5 that night. i trained and became a champion. had to buy new armour had enough for a yellow con breastplate but that was it. then when runing through tiranog was stopped by a purple con peep who asked me if i needed money. i of course said yes. he handed me 10gp and i think i hug spammed him so much that he logged off

Miss the noobish feeling
Remember coming to pkb with my S/S Armsman to watch the big guys, and get eb buffs.
First gold was from some guy (Wish i remember his name) from Shadowlords Society, he gave me 100g, helped get crafted plate and everything. All my friends were sooo jealous. I so used to respect level 50's and the value of gold. Now its just not fun anymore

Remember shortly after beta starting my first char, a nightshade i made him to lvl 18 in like 10 days played. It was incredibly high for me at the time and i stealthed around in Spraggon Den dying all the time but it was fun Remember doing lvl 6-9 or something with a ranger a few lvls higher than me at Blackthorns outside mag mell. It was awesome at the time, tho i used 3-4 hours. But the incredible thing was the loot! OMG and all the money i made, more than 2 gold, i felt really rich.

So at lvl 11 i got a group at watchers i think they're called, at caillie on the way to druim cain. Grouped with Kiukku being the one i remember and a few others. So i ran out pulling with my dd, and brought the mobs back for nuking. It was INSANE xp and i quicly dinged 15 (quickly still being 4 hours or so). Yes that was the good old days
