Chuckled. Some great lines. Whoever that was playing Mels was proper shit. She had the best line of the show and managed to blow it.

"I've got a gun, you've got a time machine, lets kill Hitler."

Actually the whole killing Hitler thing makes really no sense, even given the backstory of Mels. Or rather, maybe its just a bit weak.

The idea of locking Hitler in the cupboard and forgetting about him had me in stitches :D

I hope the time travelling mini-guys make a return rather than being a one-off.

But now we've got another means for it not to be the Doc at Lake Silencio. So far the main candidate seemed to be a living skin version of him but it could be a robot the same as the one in this week's episode since it can mimic anyone.

Anyway, irritations aside, still good cheesey fun.

The "Kill Hitler" thing is a meme; The standard response to the question; "what would you do if you had a time machine?"

Except it takes itself seriously with attempts at hi sci-fi, it doesn't know how cheesy and cringeworthy it is which rather makes it worse.

when? ive never seen dr who try to do a serious take on sci fi there is always a sci fi theme but i take it in the vein of red dwarf not star trek the sci fi is there as a plot device it never gets too serious look at donna noble and the daleks

I'm enjoying the new Torchwood more at the moment, however the new episode of dr Who was good. I think people missed the point with the hitler thing, as gaffer pointed out.

Meme aside, it still doesn't really make sense as a plot - it was just something to hang some jokes (and a meme) from. I don't want to get too hung up on this since most eps are pretty much sci-fi gorgonzola.

Like everything Moffat does, there are wheels within wheels. The robot drivers (call them The Numskulls for short) are a whole new thing that could have role to play further down the line, since they know about the Doctor's "death" and its already been identified as a crime. So meeting them via Hitler is as good a way as any; Hitler isn't really the point except killing him is the time travel meme; one that's been done by everyone from Stephen Fry to Johnny Alpha.

also
i wonder if river giving all her rejuvenating powers to the doctor gave him more lives? its a handy explanation to extend the doctors lifespan in more forms etc
That is exactly what pissed me off about the latest episode. It was effectively all about trying to do this subtly with that whole
you used them all up to save him
line. Arragh, awful :(

Also there are now far too many ways it could be something "looking" like the doctor that dies instead of him actually dying.

well that was better. kids spent most of the episode using cushions to hide behind which is always a good sign.

good episode.

Really good, modern but still in old style too, I really liked it, and if I was a kid I bet I would have been scared too :)

the kids were jumping so for them it was a good ep. i was a bit let down tho and im usually the one shouting the praise. i sussed where they were long before it actually showed where they were the whole ep seemed a bit shallow 5 mins at begining of ep explaining the premise 5 mins at the end resolving it the rest just running round lookin gormless. the whole episode seemed shallow to me alot more could have been done with it a waste of a good plot device imo.

I enjoyed it (and I had a bit of a lump in my throat at the end because I'm soft as shite now I have a child), but on the downside, it is the second "monster-in-the-cupboard" episode since NuWho started, and it felt like it trod a lot of old ground.

My kids were petrified. It reminded me of when I was little and watched it. They have not been that scared since the weeping angels. I need to watch it again though, as they kept talking over all the dialogue.

Literally the worst episode I've ever seen. I couldn't believe the end of it. They go into the cupboard and he hugs his alien kid and then it's over. WAT.

Decent kiddy-scaring episode. Clearly a filler between the major plot arc stories. As usual, doesn't bear too much scrutiny :)

This.

Watched it last night on iPlayer and it all felt very weak.

It's was funny how "run run run or you'll be turned into one" becomes "run run run or you'll be turned into one unless you're Dad and it's near the end of the episode in which case barge them out the way because you've just become completely invulnerable"

Also how many fucking times is he going to drop the phrase "perception filter" this series. You'd think he'd just recently re-read the multiple wiki entries on the tardis before he sat down to write.

Hopefully next week we will be moving on to better things but the two Amy's preview just leaves me thinking the only thing to come out of it will be that Big G gets more wanking material :(

What i'm missing, while this is still entertaining, is the running.

And if you don't understand that, get out  Or tits.

First

Noooo! Come back Gillan!

Second

Nooo! James Corden

This episode wasn't so bad, but for the past few weeks they had been teasing that she would end up not being the Doctor's companion anymore, and when he asked the nurse from this episode i thought she would have inevitably started tagging along.

I just hope to christ they don't go and put Corden into the mix for regular companion. David Tennant's Doctor said it himself "theres way too much coincidence about meeting you twice" (He said to Donna).

Haven't seen River either since she vanished, which makes me think this obviously wasn't the last time we'll see Gillan (Especially since Doctor will be supposedly getting killed in a couple of episodes).

agreed

it has to be some hot chick to be the companion, otherwise half the reason for watching the show goes out the window. corden is just some ugly cunt who the mass population of retarded infidels think is funny when infact he's just some ugly cunt

Agree with Nate 100%. Wouldn't watch the show if the unmentionable one was in it.

dont think the doctor has ever had a male only companion it just wouldnt appeal to the majority

pretty sure that isnt the end of the sexy red head tho too much is left unexplained, or have we all forgot bout the cracks in the universe.

Adric, who is also the source of one of the biggest Dr. Who arguments ever amongst the fluff nazi Whovians :D

Interesting episode.

Funny how the door #11 was the "fear", or nightmare, etc since it's the 11th doctor at the moment ;)

Otherwise i do always get that gut feel, bit wrenching, when everything ends.

Really waiting to see where they go with this. River? Daughter? Female Doctor #12? :p

what arguments that?

You can't kill anyone in the Tardis. Adric died in the Tardis to a Cyberman. However, there's never been any proof you can't kill anyone in the Tardis, only that the doc says so. And he admits he lies a lot :D

It keeps the fluff hunters entertained for hours. Personally I think there's so many logic and continuity holes in Dr. Who its not really worth getting too worked up about. I just enjoy the Saturday night cheese.

Continuity problems would be a problem, if they didn't clearly ignore them in the show :p

"Timey wimey wibbly-wobbly" is pretty much a universal "yeah we know, f*ck off" statement to time paradoxes and continuity problems.
