You can 'music' without touching an instrument nowadays, didn't you know?

I'm surprised they force that, given most DAWs are platform agnostic. Ableton/FL Studio are.
That's like taking a video editing course and them force you to use windows movie maker. lol.

The A level course in Music Tech states Logic Pro which is only available on Mac, they used to do a PC version but stopped it years ago. The School sent a letter as I kicked up a fuss about it. Basically said it was the per course material set by the National Curriculum.

I bet he can go into school and learn there. It's the convenience of being at home is the thing here.

To be fair - why are they teaching music tech? Surely they should teach music - an instrument, theory etc - and if he's sufficiently interested then the tech side of it is something you can do for yourself.
He is already level 7 music so no point, he does that in his spare time - classical guitar.

Because Music Tech and Music are different things.

That's like saying 'why have a theatre director, when you can just be an actor?'

I get that. But I see school as a place of academic work, and industry (or your own time, or as hobby) as non-academic learning.

BTW: If we are to argue about academic / not I have to be a lot more sober... :)

I absolutely agree but Music is an odd one. You can get all the necessary qualifications and certifications outside of school academic life.

I'm just pissed that the curriculum decides on a piece of software to do course work on and in turn dictates a certain shitty brand of laptop. I argued with the school and was basically told, "tough shit!" Only upside is that the school provides the S/W which is around $700

The 1930s are falling you back.

So youre saying that we should have purely academic schools for all students and for those students who aren't academically capable. Tough shit?

It's an A-Level course. I think if you're not academic then you should knock school on the head at 16 (if you want to) and go into some sort of vocation-based training for a couple of years tbh.

Training someone how to use a particular piece of software on a locked down platform doesn't strike me as giving someone skills to take to uni, which kinda used to be what A-Level study was for.

But with the amount of kids who go to uni that do all kinds of random shit meh...

Either way, it's not something I feel that strongly about :)

ooh let me know how it is plx. I was looking at those very chairs the other day as my trusty current chair is getting a bit long in the tooth at 12 years old :)

The chair is awesome, although a little on the large side. The Sentinel would have possibly been a better fit. Kinda reminds me of a big business class seat (aircraft). The adjustable lumbar and headrest are excellent for me. No back issues working from it for several hours.

Love it :)

The build quality is amazing and far exceeds the $500 chair I have at work. :) So solid, its built like a tank. It even came with two hydraulic units for heights.

Yeah I was wanting to hold off but the thing just went to shit rapidly. Not getting texts for hours after they were sent, battery life going through the floor etc Last straw was at the weekend when my wife texted me at around 8pm to see if I was still in the pub as she wanted to join me, didn't get it until 3am. It was fine up until the contract ran out...

User Error. Mine is 2 years old and works fine. Battery has dropped to a day and a half rather than 2 days.

I've gotten into the habit of buying aftermarket batteries for my phones after a year or so - makes a huge difference.

Nest thermostat, on a stand as we don't have any existing thermostat wiring, so far likey muchy.
So whenever we wake up on Saturday morning can switch the heating on and start the fresh coffee from bed. Before I send Mrs Yuck downstairs to actually pour the coffee, obvs.

Lucky you, mine went to shit over a short period of time so binned it (actually, got £70 for it on Mazuma)

Also they are sealed units and couldn't be arsed figuring out how to get into it to see if the battery could be changed.

If you have Android, get the following app:

Coming Home – Android Apps on Google Play

I use it to create a geofence around my home, so the phone tells the thermostat to go into away mode when I pass that fence. Nest has it's own auto away feature, but it goes into away mode way too easily IMO, even doing it when you're still home.
