3D printers are awesome, when the price comes down a lot of companies are going to shit themselves though :/

I'd love one tbfh. Loads of little plastic things get snapped and you can't get replacements (e.g. cable tidy on an old HP DesignJet) but you could CAD them into something like this and just print a freaking replacement.

It'll be a while before the economics of local 3D printing match some sweatshop in China (if ever); definitely a hobbyist thing until the costs of feedstock come down/are open-sourced, and even then it will only make sense in certain applications (like Meg says, obsolescent products for example).

I bought a GoPro Hero 2, £230-ish. Then the brakes failed on my car (corroded pipe so not that big a deal to fix).

I've got the suction cup mount but I've only ever mounted it internally on the windscreen, never dared use it outside the car :p

Well some of the skydiving cameramen were using GoPros and said they were pretty damn good at it. footage seemed to confirm this. Not top notch, but very good, especially for the price.

Nobody is debating that :p I was talking purely about the suction mount.

well it sucks pretty well given that everyone thought both cameras would fall of with in seconds.

anyways got this 2nd hand but mint condition. and if i remeber correctly they were fetching over £350 over here. not bad headphone amp which can also be used as pre-amp for £95
sounds great with senns hd650. only crap thing is this will end my hobby of trying diy headphone amps for awhile now

I know it's not gadgetry, but for finishing my second year I treated myself to a set of knives from these guys: http://www.global-knife.com/index.html

from the G and GS series of standard knives. They are awesome and ridiculously sharp.

I have a few of those knives. They are indeed excellent!
You do need to use a whetstone to sharpen them though - I got a fairly cheap and easy to use one

cheers guys :) Chet be aware that they are very sharp and take some getting used to (when you're stupid, like I am). I've cut myself three times with my large kitchen knife now, due to the fact that the cutting edge goes all the way to the end of the blade by the haft, and my old knife didn't. Globals are so sharp that you can cut yourself by simply touching the edge lightly, and it's extremely unpleasant thing to undergo with blades that sharp.

That said, if you want to prepare food (or anything for that matter) properly use good tools. Globals from the standard series are about as good as they come for the pro-sumer imo, and your 'rents will be chuffed as can be I think. Like Dys says, get a decent water based whetstone for keeping them in good nick and you'll have years of pleasure out of them!

FYI due to the interest I checked real quick and I have the G2, GS3 and GS7. I bought them together as a set and the set cost just over 200 euros. Most of Global's gadgets, eg the sharpener, whetstone and magnet rack, are very expensive comparatively speaking. Not sure how that works in the UK.
Only other knives I may get at some point are the G56 and/or G64. I don't de-bone meat or fillet fish so that's cool I guess.

Presumably this is designed for proper hi-fi music systems? Could it be used with your PC or an MP3 player?

best dac amp combo i heard recently is this http://uk.asus.com/Multimedia/Audio_Cards/Xonar_Essence_One/ compleaty solid state but sounds great with anything headphones, earphones

My phone has a standard 3.5mm jack socket. What cable would connect that to the mk3?

note the ones in the pic are pretty expensive, you could make the same cable your self for £20 give or take.

Sorry my sarcasm seems to be missed. They have the ergonomics of... something not designed to be worn.
