i wouldnt do anything like modify an M3
What i would do would be subtle small things, a different set of alloys depending on the conditions (big ones for summer, stds for winter) and the condition of the original alloys, i would most probably go for the alpina alloys... very nice they are.
i would restore the M3 to its original glory but with maybe a nice gear knob or nicer pedals... but nothing like stupid bumpers and that extreme stuff. I would only modify an already standard car...
And yes, in the above posts i was refering to the older M3, where they ar fairly underpowered...
also, dropping a big BMW engine into the 3 series os not a big big job, as the front end is already very strong... uprated suspension on the front is all that would be needed apart from different fuel delivery systems and driveshaft linkage...

As I've said before it would be utterly pointless sticking a 3.2 in let alone a 3.2 v12 in such a car. But hay its your car knock yourself out

With a 3.2 V12 you would need uprated suspension, brakes, gearbox and clutch - and thats just the obvious things. There's no guarantee the engine diagnostics would work properly for example.
Without wanting to sound confrontational, do you even know if the 3.2 V12 M-Power engine will fit into a 318 (as in straight engine transplant)? If not you're looking at mounting reinforcements, possible cutting of the engine bay, etc. Either way it will not be cheap (figure £1000+ in labour alone) unless you know someone in the trade. And insurance will be astronomical. I would get quotes before even considering anything like this, I would hazard a guess it would push your quote up by at least £2000.
