guess i wont be playing it :(, theres limited keys available so I read, and im stuck at work for another 4 hours. Knowing my luck all the keys will be gone by the time i get home, download and install it.

There's a "common pool" of vehicles and weapons that all 3 sides have and then on top each side has their own specialist vehicles and weaps.

I'll cut and paste descriptions of a few from the official site (www.planetside.com):

Gauss
Source: New Conglomerate
Handling: Assault Rifle
Damage: High
Maximum Range: Long
Refire Rate: Fast

Using magnetic field technology, the Gauss assault rifle combines standard combustion-based ammunition with a magnetic field that boosts the actual projectile speed when fired. This allows the Gauss to use standard ammunition more effectively than other assault rifles.

Jackhammer
Source: New Conglomerate
Handling: Assault Shotgun
Damage: High
Maximum Range: Medium
Refire Rate: Medium

With good ammunition capacity and a reasonable rate of fire, the Jackhammer is the New Conglomerate's primary heavy assault multi-barreled shotgun. In alternate firing mode, the Jackhammer swiftly discharges all barrels, but all barrels must then reload before being able to fire again.

Punisher

Maximum Range: Long
Recoil Penalty: Low
Refire Rate: Fast

The Punisher can be fired in primary mode as a rapid-fire assault rifle, or switched to its lower barrel to fire a single-fire rocket. One of the more popular standard infantry weapons, it's good for suppression fire, indoor sweeps, and is excellent anti-vehicle weaponry when carried by 3-4 people in a squad.

The Rocklet Gun is a compact dumb fire missile launcher. It carries a small payload of rocklets, which are effective up to medium range. Each rocklet delivers a reasonably powerful explosive force given their small size.

Thumper

Maximum Range: Medium
Refire Rate: Medium

A standard grenade launcher, the Thumper can lob grenades up to medium range. It utilizes a special Arc Targeting System that 'paints' a small impact circle on the soldier's HUD, representing roughly where the grenade will land.

Phoenix
Source: New Conglomerate
Handling: Anti-Vehicular Missile
Damage: High
Maximum Range: Long
Refire Rate: Not Applicable

Basically a TOW missile launcher, the New Conglomerate's Phoenix uses wire-guided technology to allow the operator to literally fly the missile into the intended target. At the moment the missile is fired, the operator switches to a camera mounted on the tip of the warhead. While the missile is in flight, the operator can either directly fly the missile through impact, or release the missile, giving up control and causing it go into dumb fire mode.

Bolt-Driver

The Bolt-Driver is the most powerful sniper rifle available. However, it suffers from only being able to load a single bolt at a time, thus requiring a lengthy reload after every shot.

There's close quarters stuff like shotguns, pistols, chainblades, knives etc. Then mines, turrets, sensors, plasma grenades, frag grenades. Anti-aircraft and anti-ground vehicle weapons.

Armour - Standard, assault, reinforced, infiltrator, MAX. What you wear determines what you can use. IIRC MAX users can't hack. MAX users can turn autorun off which makes them run very fast, almost like a mini vehicle - they have 3 loadouts that you have to spec in. NC has Anti aircraft, anti-infantry and anti-vehicle.

Vehicles - tanks, jeeps, buggies, troop carriers, air troop carriers, big, all sorts. I'll paste a few:

Advanced Mobile Station (AMS): Common Pool
Type: Advanced Mobile Station
Role: Supply depot and spawn point
Primary Weapon: None
Occupants: 1
Handling: Very Poor

The Advanced Mobile Station is the lynchpin in many attack strategies. Once driven to a location and deployed, the AMS allows soldiers to store their patterns at its respawning tubes for quick redeployment after death. It also carries a full Equipment Terminal allowing soldiers to reequip in the field. When deployed, the AMS automatically cloaks beyond a short distance in order to better shield it from enemy troops.

Deliverer: Common Pool
Type: Medium Transport
Role: Troop Transport
Primary Weapon: 20mm Recoilless Cannon x2
Occupants: 5 (Driver, 2 Gunners, 2 Passengers)
Handling: Poor

The Deliverer is a medium transport capable of carrying up to five occupants (1 driver, 2 gunners, 2 passengers). While less maneuverable than assault buggies, the Deliverer has two gunners -- one next to the driver, facing forward, the other in the rear, covering the back. A reasonable trunk provides adequate space to carry supplies as well. The Deliverer also has the distinct advantage of being able to cross calm rivers and waterways. When entering water, the Deliverer will float at the surface, but is only capable of 30% of its maximum speed when crossing water.

Galaxy: Common Pool
Type: Dropship
Role: Troop Transport
Primary Weapon: 20mm Recoilless Chainguns x3
Occupants: 12-15 (Driver, 3 Gunners, 6 Passengers, 2 MAX units, plus a vehicle and passengers)
Handling: Very Poor
The Galaxy is a gigantic aircraft capable of carrying a pilot, three gunners, two MAXs, six other passengers, as well as a vehicle in the back (with passengers). Fully loaded, with passengers in the vehicle stowed in back, the Galaxy can easily carry a full Squad of soldiers, plus a pilot and gun crew to bring them to the battle intact and alive. The gunner positions have 20mm Chainguns to use in defense against airborne targets, or they can be alternately used to pound ground targets from above.

Magrider: Vanu Sovereignty
Type: Medium Tank
Role: Attack
Primary Weapon: Heavy Rail Beam
Secondary Weapon: Light Pulsed Particle Accelerator
Occupants: 2 (Driver, Gunners)
Handling: Good

The Magrider is the Vanu Sovereignty's Main Battle Tank. Built upon Vanu Alien technology, it has the ability to hover across both ground and water. This propulsion system also gives the Magrider the ability to strafe left or right. The drawback, however, is that the Sovereignty has not perfected the anti-gravitic drive yet so weight is still a critical issue. Because of this, their primary weapon, a heavy energy rail beam has a limited forward pivot. The secondary weapon system, which the pilot controls, is a light Pulsed Particle Accelerator, and is mounted on the front of the vehicle.


Mosquito: Common Pool
Type: Light Assault Aircraft
Role: Light Attack & Recon
Primary Weapon: 12mm Rotary Chaingun
Occupants: 1
Handling: Good

The Mosquito is fast, agile, and lightly armored. It carries only a Light Rotary Chaingun (12mm), but it can easily slip past most sensory defenses (it's not visible on radar) and is primarly a scout craft. The Mosquito only carries a single pilo

Reaver: Common Pool
Type: Light Gunship
Role: Air Support
Primary Weapon: 20mm Recoilless Cannon
Secondary Weapon: Rocket Pod Launcher
Occupants: 1
Handling: Good

The Reaver carries much more armor and ordnance than the lighter Mosquito. Of course, this makes it less maneuverable, but the Reaver is easily the king of the skies with it's forward-firing 20mm Recoilless Cannon and secondary firing Rocket Launchers. The Reaver, like the Mosquito, carries only a single pilot


Then theres nano kits, first aid stuff, medics, engineers, mines, etc etc etc.

I just paid £4 for fileplanet subs if they haven't got any keys left when this has finished downloading i'm .. erm something bad anyway.

I have a feeling that the download itself has a key, like they wont let you download it if you cant get in. Like they did with AC2 ..

You have to be a fileplanet subscriber - $6.95 for a month, then you can dl the 1.3gb file and you will get a cdkey.

Adams and Gef - you can get the key as soon as you have subbed, you dont have to wait til the dl finishes.

Lester, a mate is playing atm with a p3 850, 384mb ram and a gforce 2. He's managing ok but is upgrading asap.

I've twigged what you haven't done:

As daft as it sounds, go to the official site, register for both the forum and the beta test. You'll get that staion ID - you will need this to login. What you pick here is your login for PS.

This is what I see on File Planet...

Implant Information



Advanced Targeting
Allows you to see the name and health of enemy characters under your reticule. It also reveals the names of enemies within a vehicle, as well as revealing enemy deployables at a greater range.
This is very useful, particularly for snipers who can use it to find already damaged soldiers for the finishing shot. It is also very useful for infiltrators so they can detect mines and other explosives sooner and dispatch them with a boomer or jammer grenade.


Audio Amplifier
Amplifies footsteps of nearby soldiers, allowing onboard systems to analyze that sound and place enemy soldier locations on your personal radar, thus revealing their position when they are running.

Darklight Vision
Greatly reduces your normal visibility while simultaneously shifting your perceptions to allow you to see cloaked enemies in an area around you.
This is one of the more popular implants used. It only reduces visibility greatly when used outdoors. It works perfectly when you know that there is a cloaker in a room and you just need to know where to shoot the bullets.


Melee Booster
Drains a soldier's Stamina when he swings a knife, but greatly enhances the damage of that knife when it hits.
The infiltrators dream. You can knife someone in just a couple of strokes with this enabled. It's not just a very effective way of killing most importantly - it's silent and it's cool.


Personal Shield
Harnesses a soldier's Stamina and turns it into a personal force field that blocks incoming damage on a one for one basis.
This is of limited use as it drains stamina even when you aren't being hit. While it does block extra damage don't try and use it till you know you are about to be shot i.e. storming a room.


Range Magnifier
Used instead of a weapon's normal zoom function, but has much greater capacity. Zoom levels are 4x, 8x, and 12x.
Not just for snipers (the guns aren't that effective past max range on 8x), this implant is also very good for long range scouting. It's excellent when used with a homing missile or projectile from a long way away as it helps to give you that extra time to finish the vehicle before it gets to you.


Regeneration
Allows you to use Stamina points to quickly regenerate missing Health points at the cost of two Stamina points for each Health point regained.
No medic around? That's when this one is really good. If you are the kind of soldier who rearms from the corpses of your victims then this may be for you. Also very useful for infiltrators who can't carry a med-kit with them. Since stamina regenerates and Health doesn't you can toggle this one on and off to stay full health between skirmishes.


Second Wind
When a soldier is on the brink of death, the Second Wind implant automatically strips Stamina away to boost Health to safer levels. After each use, a recharge period must elapse before Second Wind can be used again.
A situational one. This gives you 25 extra hitpoints when you reach 1 remaining point. If you're outnumbered it isn't going to help much, but in a one on one it can turn the tide. It's an excellent 2nd or 3rd choice implant.


Silent Run
Using counter-frequency technology, the Silent Run implant completely nullifies the sounds of the soldier's footsteps when running. The bulkier the armor being worn, the more Stamina is used to muffle the footstep sounds.
Mainly used by infiltrators to further mask their movements this isn't an implant you'll use too often.


Surge
This implant boosts the foot speed of a soldier by draining his Stamina to power enhanced leg units. The bulkier the armor being worn, the more Stamina is required to achieve the Surge in speed.
The sprinting implant. This lasts for a long enough time to help you get away from an enemy infantry or to dodge though spitfire spray with a little less damage. An excellent secondary implant.


So all depends on your role really, for example if your a cloaked infiltrator than your gonna want melee booster. maybe advanced targetting for a 2nd implant because you can then see mines etc easily.

I've used the personal sheild and it was pretty shite, i've also tried the Audio Amplifier which shows all running enemys on your scanner BUT problem with that is if the enemy has silent run implant there not gonna show up. Best bet for a first one is probably as you say darklight and as you can change them when you want its probably best to have a go through them and see what you find the most useful.

WTF is so high speed about them, I have just tried downloading Planetside and have not managed to get more than 40kb/s on my 1mb connection :eek:

When I do a speed test on adslguide I get 126kb/s.

I got it at 120 on my 1mb cable.

Guy i know on 2mb cable trial got it at 300+ so its good for some :)

Oh and planetside even has Wij friendly armour

Claranet pisses me off.
