I can't get mine to work! :(

Using the same sound card as I always have, which works fine and the same headset/microphone as I previously used (before formatting my HDD) I'm unable to get any sound through my mic for windows to detect. My headset works fine (tried on another PC) and so does the sound card (tried on another PC also) so I'm guessing it's down to windows settings somewhere, wondering if anyone here can think of what it could be? I troubleshooted through Microphone Volume Low or Mic Not Working in windows & checked things like input & output; all are set to my sound card (not onboard, which is not enabled and onboard does not work with mic either, I tried it)

Thanks!

I've seen this type of thing a fair bit. Most common cause is sound management software for the soundcard application itself preventing direct access from other applications. It usually happens with built-in motherboard audio but can happen with any sound device.

Remove whatever management software there is, might even need to hack the registry a bit to stop it loading on startup then try again. Let us know how you get on or if I'm barking up the wrong tree :)

You said that both the headset and sound card both work in another PC. Do they work together in that PC? Also, you've said that you've made sure intput is set to the right soundcard but have you check both audio and voice? In Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices Properties there are options in both the Audio and Voice tabs for setting the edfault hardware for sound recording.

Failng everything else, uninstall your soundcard and then reinstall it with just the drivers. Either that or just format again, I've had to do that a few times.

Yep, they're all set to my soundcard and the combination works fine in the other PC. Guess I'll try using onboard for microphone again but unsure how to set so that output = sound card (and thus speakers) and input = onboard (microphone), doing it through Control Panel in the Audio/Voice tabs didn't work before ;<

Got it to work, thanks for replies!

I'm using onboard sound for input and sound card for output and had my brother configured the onboard drivers to have it work :)

Weird thing is, it doesn't work on Windows Sound Recorder, nor MSN... but it works on Ventrilo, and that's what I wanted it for :)
