Did you see the adverts on Megaupload, I mean who on this gods Earth clicked the links and who was paying them advertising revenue, I just don't get it.
Is there any hope that the NZ courts will be smarter than ours and tell the yanks to feck off?
I agree that this is exactly the wrong tack. Unless the site ignored complaints/requests about removing illegal content the focus should be on who is uploading the content not who hosts a tool designed for good use that some have turned otbad use. The tool should not be held accountable (back to the car thing again, or phone, or post, or anything else folks have used as valid comparison).
When do we get to cut the yank internet off from the rest of the world so they can have their own stupid rules without spoiling it for the rest of us? Is it time for Google to pull out like it did in China?

Yep. Nice cars and house tho.
Interesting to see that he's had his assets stripped before he gets found guilty of anything in court. Or, in fact, before he actually gets to court.
Yeah, they're held as evidence until it's proved either way. He'll get them back if he's found not guilty. Don't see the problem here, this is how law works.
Otherwise he could just sell it all off. But hate the police! Hate them more!
God forbid the man is allowed to sell some possessions to fund a defence while he's still "innocent"
You can pay after the case, you don't need to pay upfront. Why should someone be allowed to defend themselves with money they've obtained illegally?
Good article here on the legality of MU and the like. http://musictechpolicy.wordpress.com/2011/03/10/smoke-on-the-water-part-2-whats-in-a-locker/
Why not? You want a decent lawyer.
The problem there is how rich you are shouldn't have a bearing on the quality of your defence.
Disagree with the basic ethos of the poster and many of his "why if it was legal" arguments...
