WHY!!!!!!!!!!

It gives small minded people (e.g. Most of USA)

A purpose, becasue they can't live on their own, always accepting things at face value, instead of searching the truth.

And that Truth people is

SCIENCE RULES! (in a sense that it has answers to certain questions, not that it is better than anything in my life)

Oh so you are a member of the Church of Scientology then, that might explain your lapse in reasonable discussion

/awaiting your carefullly automatic response from a superior

Okay I admit

Religon is a way of explaining the universe, but these roots are dated before man sought out science to explain, how everything actually works.

Instead of guess work

I am just saying there is a time and place for religon in the western world and that was the 1400's

Heh, just because science exists doesn't mean there is no higher power. Or maybe some people see the higher power as a manifestation of science.

Just my tuppence-worth.

Nice idea.

Unless the higher power that you all speak of, was an ancient alien race, that will come back one day and turn us into slaves.

(a.k.a. Stargate)

Science doesn't provide explanations of how everything works. It provides possible explanations based on current evidence.

When you are taught science at school you are initially being taught incorrect assumptions so subjects are easier to comprehend; the general layout is correct, but the fact differs. Just as the Bible (taking the example of religions who hold it as a holy book) is generally held as a story based roughly around fact.

You accept that the science taught to you is 'how it is', I seriously doubt that you actually bother to question any of it hence it is assumed as a matter of faith, just as religion is assumed as a matter of faith.

Religion provides a yardstick for morality, and as such a way of leading a life that causes less harm generally. I fail to see how it can be a bad thing.

Its mainly the extremists, I'm against the ones that decide, they should put other peoples lives in danger in order to 'FORCE' their belifs on others
i.e. the Crusades

I don't mind everyday Christians as long as they don't try to put their beliefs on me.

People with different beliefs as to the best nature of government kill each other, does it make government a bad thing?

Extremists exist in every field...

1st Crusade; 1096-1099
2nd Crusade 1101-1144
3rd Crusade 1127-1193

Not very relavent to today is it? I'd remind you as to the nature of science in the middle ages, but I'm assuming you are already aware of that.

But I do not want to talk about it, as any religious person will lose in an arguement.

Still waiting....

I was talking about if someone put an arguement up like noahs ark was real, or God created the universe and that sort of thing.

but these arguements you have thrown up at me, have proven very interesting. Maybe because you lot are not religous fanactics, so your arguements are less specfic to the Bible.

The Bible was a book written by people to explain their world with the facts they had.

Have you tried reading science texts from that time?;)
