How disgraceful - Microsoft used something in an advert to sell a product that wasn't strictly true. Definitely worth a forum thread, I mean no other company would do that would they.

Perhaps you'd like to start a thread about how BT are liars because you can't actually fit the contents of a zoo down a telephone wire.

Not the point of the thread. Think most people know that corporations are liars anyway.

Just that M$ have been pin pointed for a failed attempt to get one over the old enemy by some web hounds - which is kinda funneh.

because Macs are shit, presumably? :)

I don't think it is that alone.

Apple are more of a brand company, their technology is often lifted from previous innovations which they try to pass off as their own. Apple have tried every trick in the book to dupe customers and squeeze more out of their market, they are the last people to cry "foul" when it comes to Microsoft's antics.

The particularly distateful part of Apple I find is their "copyright" defences, from the days they tried to sue Microsoft over the fact that Windows merely "looked like" their own OS, they've threatened to sue makers of Mac and iMac lookalike cases under the same rules and even Windows theme websites if they use the Apple logo.

From what I've seen of Macs they are overpriced and overrated, they are just as unreliable as PCs.

Not quite the point was it. Lies are different from 'metaphors' :)

PCs aren't unreliable, it's just that a *cough* certain *cough* operating system is. Mac hardware is overpriced, however if you've got plenty of excess cash it's good stuff, and MacOS is rather nice. I'd take Apple over Microsoft anyday :)

They noticed that the picture of the woman used to illustrate the story was a stock image from the Getty Library and unlikely to be a genuine customer.

No shit sherlock(s)?

I use a powerbook virtually every day and have done so for the past year and a half, I've not had a single crash on it yet.

I have to use a few Macs in the other lab I work in (the groovy spectrophotofluorimetric thermal cycler I use there is controlled by Macs) and tbh they're OK. They boot fast, they're fairly intuitive - once you get used to the fact that the interface has some deeply surreal design decisions built into it, like to eject a zip disk you have to drag it to the waste bin, wtf? They seem to crash no more or less than PC's and they need a proper mouse putting on them soon as they come out of the box, other than that I don't see the need for all the invective and hystrionics.
