It can't, they just want to make an example of Gary Mckinnon (sp?) because he made them look like fools, there is literally no other reason they'd chase it so hard.

American pride, what a load of bollocks. As for LuLzSec i'm quite sure they don't realise just whats going to happen to them once caught, i'm sure they think they'll just get a slap on the wrist and let go, sadly for them they'll be facing literally hundreds of years worth of charges and will never see the light of day again.

Enjoy your lives boys because they're about to be void.

if infact they're caught and its not a big conspiracy theory funded by the american government.....

ofcourse i don't believe that but was fun to say :>

I'm pro lulzsec.

Assuming they are not part of some conspiracy theory, I'd rather they were breaking entering and shouting the lulz to the world than some russia/chinese people who'd use it for more nefarious purposes.

If it forces companies to tighten their security and makes people in general more aware then it's a good thing.

If you think china/russia/america (interesting you left that out) don't have vastly superior methods of doing these things you are really naive

Just look at Stuxnet to see what happens when a super power does cyber crimes

And they are not simply 'breaking and entering and shouting 'for' the lulz', they are distributing names and passwords and doing criminal activity like blackmail

Yea it does force companies to tighten their security, mean while it also makes peoples lives a living hell due to the details of people they give out to the public, nothing heroic or remotely constructive about what they're doing. Just a bunch of twats that think society owes them something.

They could get the same point across and keep all the personal details to themselves rather than give them out, the only reason they do so is to boost their E-peen fame, nothing more.

Guess you're ok with people hacking other peoples gaming accounts and stealing personal info too.

It seems LulzSecurity also hacked someones bitcoin wallet (contained $250k worth).. and took them all.

It's not so bad for the person who was hacked though, he only bought them for about $1k a while back.

Sure it was LulzSecurity? I saw a reference about $500,000 worth of BitCoin being stolen but not group was attributed to the hack...

I have a feeling LulzSec are in for a big fall, they are attacking higher and higher profile targets... i.e. today they hacked the CIA. You can't stay invisible forever.

If they attacked the CIA (from all accounts they DOSsed them) then they must feel pretty secure in themselves and have taken appropriate measures to protect their online identities...

Personally, I think they will not be caught, at least not this year.

either pretty secure with themselves or very naively think they wont be caught. either way they'll slip up sooner or later, they always do. i've also noticed how that worm julian assange is bumming them (most likely just so he can get some info on the gov as per usual) I support wikileaks as I believe the public has a right to know about shit the gov tries to hide but i'm fairly disappointed in assange for supporting cyber crime just so he can get his next fix on the gov.

So if you are one of the 62.000 leaked accounts will you still be pro lulzsec? Depending on what info they are giving out, people could be fucked for a long time. Lulzsec are nothing but a bunch of criminals, and with thoose 62.000 accounts they are creating more criminals that i hope will get shafted big time.

I somewhat agree, but then how easy was it for them to find the wikileaks people? They'll get caught for sure, but 100% not this year, unless every government pulls together to grab 'em

I doubt the 'higher up's' did anything, the ones that will take the fall are the silly script kiddies who are following the hype

The EU is proposing a new law that makes writing hacking tools a criminal offense (so not just using them)

yay, so now it will be illegal to use the interpipes. a browser could be construed as a "hacking" (lol) tool, or an email client, or ping, or -god forbid- an SSH client, or a port scanner, or inSIDder, etc etc. bye bye internet, it was fun...

Presumably at some point the whole world will be run by system admins locked in mortal battle with hackers, who might just turn out to be those system admins themselves.

CIA probably paying chaps like these to take down an enemy's IT (internet infrastructure, cell phone networks, secure comm links, utility networks, etc etc) in the event of war / ongoing espionage

Exposure / arrest wont make any difference. The woodwork's full of them. Its like stamping on ants in your back garden. Or re-arranging the deck-chairs on the Titanic.

All we can do is change our passwords regularly

They'll probably get some kind of settlement so that they will walk free if they agree to work for the government for the rest of their lives for a shitty pay
