No embattle. You seem not to have been following the thread properly. The thread was started by someone who wanted a server with no snipers allowed at all. I'm saying that things are ok the way they are, and trying to help the people who dont play TFC understand our point of view about snipers.

I am merely presenting an experienced viewpoint - and I think that when I've been playing the game as long as I have that its not an egotistical thing to say. I've not bragged of my prowess at the game (except once as a joke) so if you think "I rate myself" thats your misconception.
You were the one that started puffing out your chest and calling me names. If you dont mind me saying, that sort of behaviour is slightly more cocky than my demeanour.

Actually I have followed this thread fairly well until the slagging off started happening.
Please don't start puffing out your chest with shit like
since it comes off as a bad rap when you don't know who ur saying it to. Nothing is likely to get me more annoyed than a person who makes out they know everything just because they think they've been around a while

If you cant have a serious discussion without descending into petulance then im not interested in anything you have to say. You dont want to debate the issues with me and so try and portray me as something I'm not.
And when you say things like "you don't know who ur saying it to" it makes your attempt to portray me as a big head laughable.
All I've done is try and spell out the basics for people who dont play TFC. When I say I've played the game for a while I think I'm entitled to explain basic stuff without being called a know it all.
And thats by someone who is trying to tell us who have played the game for years, that we have done something wrong, and you dont even play the game!

i hate to break up your little tiff but the majority of you appear to be missing the point. observe;
1) there is a fashion at the moment for these realism mods, cs, tfc etc. people yearn for artificial realism because it represents the ultimate form of escapism. so wake up, snipers exist, life's a bitch, one minute your covering the rear of your team, (ha ha). the next, bang! your dead, fuck it. its realistic.
2) people like to be snipers cos they think its cool. suddenly they get to live out all their saddo fantasy names they've always wanted to be called, like shadoweye, and stealthkill etc.
3) yes they can be partially for newbies. it gives them a chance to get few frags and not permenately be at the bottom of score table. when they have got over this bad patch, they will develop and become one of the better classes and make way for the new wave of newbies.
4) have you people not heard of survival of the fittest? if you keep dying, piss off and find an easier game to play.
you shouldnt come down on newbies so hard because you were one once and i dont want any elaborate stories how you never were one because its pathetic. i agree that any more than 1 sniper is really dumb and shouldnt be allowed.
anyway, the moral of the story is: stop moaning about snipers, they can be an essential part of teamplay.

I repeat again plz dont think we dont want newbies on the servers or that because we get shot by snipers we want rid of them.
I lose count of the number of times I wander past a sniper in his own base peering down his scope, oblivious to the game around him. I also lose count of the number of times I walk back out of the base with a flag past the same sniper still peering down his scope who hasnt even seen me. And despite the load audio warning: The enemy has your flag, he still hasnt been distracted from his own little world.
The chances of me wandering unnoticed past an enemy engineer who has a level 3 sentry gun pointed at the flag are extremely slim.
That is the reality of public server snipers. With limits they just get a little push to play the game a little more constructively. And the limits are only on a few servers.

As I've said I accept that but at the end of the day you can't actually bar people from playing on servers and yes you could limit the sniper amount but then I'm sure the newbies would find something else stupid to do
The other problem is that the so called newbies are unlikely to even be reading this thread which in many ways makes this apointless exercise.

Thats what you would think, but its mostly not the case. The people who are sniping arent so clueless that they cant play the game - far from it. As I just mentioned, If they just built a sentry gun by the flag, they already are contributing a hell of alot more to the team.
This discussion is not meant to DO anything. Its just a discussion. I dont think hearing other peoples opinion is a waste of time.

Well, i might not play for a clan, and i only play part time tfc now, but i sure ain't no newbie to the game

Both a so called elite sniper and a roxoring solly gay yes, pimping yes, but a fun day........ohhh yes

eddster, if you read this argument from the beginning you will find that the BW "Elite" servers arnet aimed at newbies, thats what this post is about.
And secondly Kurt, i looked at your screenshots, very impressive, but TFC isnt about getting a high score, the game revolves around teamwork (hence the title Team fortress).

If you still think introducing sniper limits was a bad idea then you have a golden opportunity here to just agree to disagree and leave it at that, or else back up your ideas with some relevant experience. I'd give you some respect for doing that in light of what you've posted so far.

If all you want to do is go through the same, tired repetoire of school-boy insults then do it on your own in front of a mirror or at least in a different thread. Then those who couldn't care less wouldn't have to witness such erudite ejaculations as:

If there was ever any chance that the actual admin policy towards the TFC 'elite' servers was going to change on the basis of this thread then all the insults that have been traded have hardly done the cause any good.
