Anyway, for sheer "couldn't look at any other car in its presence even if I tried" appeal, there is a new king in my book.

Interestingly enough, I saw one of them passing a Bentley GT the other day - the Bentley caught my eye more. Not saying I'd rather have it, but for some reason it just made me gawp a bit more.

I don't think you did somehow, the R-GT isn't road legal. And there's loads of Conti GT's round my way I think they look horribly bland and lardy. Not a fan at all.

I was willing to accept that I was wrong since I'm not often good with car names. However, I googled the continental GT and it looked nothing like it.

I saw this except in black. As far as I can make out, that's a Bentley GT. Happy to accept otherwise - don't really care. The point being, it grabbed my eye more than the lambo.

Nath, Bodhi wasn't referring to the Bentley.

Furrymuff. I checked on desktopmachine.com and the continental looked old and lame. However, I didn't scroll down to see the latest model (which appears to be the one I've posted :D).

Anyhoo, damn eye catching car. Not sure I like it but it has something.

See that's the thing - the bonnet and the arse are both pretty damn ugly... I can't work out why I find it so attractive :S

Perhaps it's just that in profile it looks like an Aston which is always a good thing.

Oh and a list of sports cars I've driven. <snip>
BMW M3 Evo (E36) Rapid, handled pretty well (great for powerslides), steering felt wrong tho, wasn't entirely sure if it was connected to the front wheels.
Lancia Delta Integrale - Don't have enough room to explain just how good this car is. If I ever buy a classic car, it will be one of these.
Mazda RX-7 - Liked the rotary engine, but like most Japanese performance cars, rest was instantly forgettable. Handled well tho.
BMW 840Ci - great tourer, crap sports car.
Oh yeah and a Golf VR6 as well. I think that's where the Golf bug started (prefer my 16v tho, almost as quick and less weight in the nose, dives into bends much faster).

There was a 911 there as well but they wouldn't let me near that, can't say I blamed them. But instead of a go in that one of Michelin's test drivers took me out round the banked oval at their test facilities in Clermont-Ferrand without touching the steering wheel. I was impressed.

<snip>
So basically I think I know what I'm talking about.

You've got some nice track day experience, but you haven't driven any distance in these cars. I've driven loads of sports cars over distances (968 to France, TVR-S around Wales, 944 from San Diego to Vegas, XK8 from LA to San Diego, Westfield to Le Mans, and these are the ones that weren't my own) and I stand by what I said; air-con is good if you actually want to go anywhere, and if you're not bothered about going anywhere and just want to tool around at track days, why get a repmobile?

The CSL is hardly a repmobile tho, even if the car it's based on is. If it's a repmobile, then the Evo 8 is a bland Japanese box and the Integrale is a flaky Italian shopping trolley. In the same way they're effectively rally cars for the road, the CSL is a saloon racer for the road. You wouldn't call a 3 series Touring car a repmobile now would you?

Did someone call the CSL a rep mobile?

Holy christ, nothing could be any further from the truth, the howl of that 3.2 straight six leaves moist patches in my pants.

No turbos, no superchargers; just muscle.

I see Audi's new RS4 bins turbos in favour of natural aspiration too.

I see what gaffer is getting at with the repmobile comment. The M3/M3 CSL do lack in the looks department and they are "just another BMW" in most cases when they are seen.

In terms of performance they are both very good cars and as much as I dislike all those repmobiles and the HUGE amount of cocks in BMW's who live near me and think they are uber bling machines, I can't say they are bad cars.

As for TVR acceleration, there are a lot of cars with gut destroying acceleration. Cars such as the Evo, Skyline and Silvia will all muller your insides when pushed. They don't all sound that bad either, but the TVR's do win in the noise department :)

You've described exactly why I wouldn't get an Evo 8 either :) I don't care if it can blow the doors off 911s; it just doesn't do it for me. Integrale is kind of the exception that proves the rule, maybe because its Italian (I've owned 3 Alfas and a Fiat so I know all about pain) and because there were so few of the bread and butter Deltas around it kept the Integrale special.

I took a proper look at a CSL this weekend (there's a specialist sportscar second-hand place around the corner from me - he had a Vanquish and 911 GT3 in there as well), and...too much like my old 330Ci inside, better outside, but...nah, still couldn't see me buying one.

Do they bollocks. Both are sex on wheels. Seriously if you mistake an M3 for a standard 3-series you're an utter tard and shouldn't be allowed an opinion on all things automotive.

Want to know the performance car that's lacking most in the looks department? Step forward Nissan, for designing your Skyline mainly with rulers you are the weakest link in car design. You didn't need to prove it with the old 200SX Touring tho, we already got the point.

I think the R34 looks alright actually, though perhaps not as good as a car of its calibre should look - the previous models look totally bland though.

Depends whether you're inside one or outside. Still a butch 3-series though, and "sex on wheels" is subjective; you like it, we think, "meh".

See what I mean about subjective? I've always really liked the R34. And Nissan car design has moved on since then; 350Z :), G35, FX45 - all stunning.

350Z is nice yeah. The other two are blobs which look like every other Japanese car ever.

I'll let the jury decide:
photos_001.jpg

Infiniti G35. Cooler than a 3-series?

001.jpg

Infiniti FX45 - finest looking SUV in the world?

I don't think either looks like every other Japanese car ever made. The FX45 in particular, makes every other SUV (except Range Rovers) look like crap (if you like that sort of thing).

G35 - Cooler than a 3 series? If cool = bland then yeah I guess it is.

And that FX45 looks like a lardy Mazda 2/3 with big wheels. Hardly the best looking SUV on the market.

Hmm, imo the G35 looks like a bland 350z and the FX45? Well it's an SUV :\

That's why I said "if you like that sort of thing". I can't imagine owning an SUV and most of them look anodyne or downright terrible (Porsche Cayenne, BMW X3, anyone?), but the FX has real presence. I think you'd have to see one on the road to see what I mean.

I'm sorry, but that overweight Mazda 3 has zero presence compared to the daddy of the SUV market. Range Rovers? Pah, posh Fords which break down a lot (not to be confused with Astons, which are REALLY posh Fords which break down a lot).

Hummer%20H2.jpg

The only SUV I'd ever buy.

Faggot.

Buy a proper hummer - original military style is the only way to own a humvee without looking like a real shit gangsta lamer :)
