I would do my best to put a stop to it and if it didn't stop then of course I wouldn't fucking cover it up.

Friend or family member, if they have a problem like that they need help and I would make sure they got it. I wouldn't dare encourage it - which is what hiding it basically is.

If you cover something like that up you are as guilty as the person doing it - you're responsible for what happened to those kids.

In those cases it would come down to friendship, which would the same in a lesser extent(depending on your own definition of friends/family). If it was a co-worker(no special friendship) then it would only be to cover own arse and then it would be a no. I don't think it was defined here who was doing the coverups.

Well, apart from the fact that I flat out disagree with you; (any "friend" of mine who turned out to be a peado wouldn't be a friend for much longer, and yes that applies to family members too) yes it was defined - as Raven said, it was common knowledge at the BBC (his place of work). Of course, "common knowledge" and proof are two wildly different things and I've no idea whether people had solid evidence and covered it up or not, but that's not the same issue as the moral question of whether you should ever cover it up if you have evidence, to which the answer is no.

I can't answer it really as i don't know how i would react to a friend being a child abuser. That's why i'm not judging this situation either, A: for it being completely speculation and B: because i can't imagine myself in a situation where i would have to cover up such a thing. It's easy ofcourse to say that flatout you'd call the cops, but i doubt it's that black&white when it's actually happening.

If i had proof of a co-worker doing it, absolute proof mind you, not some proof'ish stuff, then probably.
If it was a friend/family, then maybe. It would certainly depend on all the info which we will never have on this case.

The BBC News channel just displayed images of the three women who claimed that Jimmy Savile interfered with them sexually. They showed a current picture of each of the women and a picture taken of each of them from the 1970s.

The caption read: Now - then, now - then, now - then.

Bit tired of all these Savile Jokes, can we please stop them? That means you, and you, and you.

No, it wouldn't. You'd ditch the fucker. Quick. Preferably into a jail.

Your brother?

Well, you can't choose your family. But our relationship would turn instantly into one of need. I'd make sure he had what he needed to keep himself alive, other than that he'd be on his own. He certainly wouldn't be coming round for christmas.

...any "friend" of mine who turned out to be a peado wouldn't be a friend for much longer, and yes that applies to family members too.... the moral question of whether you should ever cover it up if you have evidence, to which the answer is no.

This, exactly.

Your opinions on this I think reflect on why you're reluctant to give the Catholic Church a bashing over Institutional Child Abuse, when the Institution so obviously deserves it.

Your opinions on this make me understand why you're so reluctant to give the Catholic Church a bashing over Institutional Child Abuse, when it so obviously deserves it.

Urgh, i'm not reluctant of it at all. Stop derailing threads.

You also removed the key part of that quote, "depending on your own definition of friends/family".

To me my good friends are as important as my family.

Also missed the very next post where i said i don't know what i would do.

As i said, i don't know. I don't have a black&white answer for it because i have absolutely no basis for a judgement like that.

So you're basically saying all your moral values are based on circumstance. You have no hard rules at all? No lines in the sand?

Not all, but many are things that i've not experienced so i won't comment on how i would react.

Would you like a penis inserted in your anus? Not if you'd want one, if you'd actually enjoy it? Can't really answer without trying ;)

For example, if a friend of mine is trying to hit on/f*ck my GF, that's a friendship killer that i know from experience.

So your moral framework is a blank slate until you have direct experience of something? Interesting. So what would be your position if you were called for jury service for example? How do you vote? I'm guessing that the game of Scruples would blow your fucking mind...

Not really; " Luckily no one has to tell the truth and there's no right answer!" ;) Perfect for trolling :D

But yeah, i do try and keep a blank slate in morals, opinions, taste in music&food etc.

In jury duty, well again, no idea but i would probably make a rather good jurymember as i would have no preset moral code towards the case.

He does. He's a contrary troll. Hard and fast. He draws lines in the sand at being reasonable.

If your friend was guilty of rape, would you hand him over?
i don't know. I don't have a black&white answer for it because i have absolutely no basis for a judgement like that.

I guess there are "grey area" rapes, where perhaps she deserved a good raping and the rapist needs to get away with it - he's a "chum" after all - and being chums is too important a thing to let a piffling trife like rape or child abuse to come between.

The line is the sand is drawn, on one side is "reason" and the other is "ridiculous troll".

At what point did i say that rape is acceptable? Or child abuse? I didn't.

You yourself asked "would you hand him over" and previously said "Well, you can't choose your family. But our relationship would turn instantly into one of need. I'd make sure he had what he needed to keep himself alive, other than that he'd be on his own. He certainly wouldn't be coming round for christmas."

So you yourself wouldn't hand your brother over and if i felt that way, and because i feel my good friends(not just "chums") are as important as family, then i wouldn't hand them over. That is IF i thought like you on the matter.

Stop trying to black&white me and then try and take all the bad on the black side, or white side and say i think like that.

Raping/child abuse isn't a gray area, it's wrong, but turning someone over isn't that black&white.

And i don't draw such lines on matters i don't know how i'd feel about. Very simple.

I could very well twist Scouses words to say "So you think your brother should get away with rape then?", but i'm not as silly as that.

In an above post he even, in same post, agrees that "you should never cover it up" and that he'd let his brother go. How's that for "reason".

jesus this thing just keeps growing, now they're pulling in John Peel and you have to admit some of his own statements are pretty odd, like enjoying sexually abusing 13 yr groupies in America, Jimmys the third Radio 1 DJ to be up to it.
The irony is of course that half the male population of the world would bang a 14 year old if they could get away with it, it's built into the male brain by evolution to seek out the youngest potential mate, that's why the urge overtakes the consequences in so many men.
In many countries it's not even illegal, rightly so it is over here because teen girls just simply are not mature enough to realise the consequences of predatory old perverts, we need to speak candidly on the subject not just scream PEDO!
How hysterical it is to see Freddie Star spouting his hatred of Pedophiles while hugging his 34 year old wife and he's 68, of course he like young girls, most men do, but it's not like a serial killer , we can't comprehend their actions but pedophiles are actually just following their natural urges that all men have programmed deep in their brains.

The "legal age" is arbitrary to a particular countries rules anyway, so the "this is how it should be" goes right out the window.

Aww the poor things, just following the pre-programmed urge to shag babies and toddlers. How natural.

We have sentience and free will - serial killers are also following a natural urge - to kill people...

Well obviously being sexually attracted to a 5 year old isn't normal, but a 14 yr old actually is.
My first girlfriend was 14 and I was 17, she looked a lot older than me though

This looks like the police might end up investigating the wider coverup with the sick news that more than one BBC "talent" had a guy that got them underage boys and girls. If that is true the cover up should be exposed and anyone alive should be made to pay.

For me firstly some context. If my cousin who is 17 tells me he has slept with his 15 year old girl friend then I am not going to turn him on or do anything else. At 15 and with the 2 year age difference I do not see him taking advantage. If my uncle at 40 is sleeping with a 15 year old then I do think that's wrong. Anything more than 5 year and I do not think I could be comfortable with the underage taking advantage thing. If any member of my family of legal age admits to sleeping with anyone under 15 then they are dead to me.

There are other exceptions though. If a mate of near 30 admits to waking up next to girl he picked up in a bar and then finding out she is 15 I am not going to expect him to show up for castration in a Bar or a Club where you need to be 18 to enter there has to be some blame handed off to the staff.

Actually, technically, a bloke who fancies recently post-pubescant girls is not a paedophile. There's another term for that that I'm too scared to Google. Pedos are those who fancy pre-pubescants. It's kind of the media scare since the nineties that means you HAVE to lump the two together or YOU MUST BE ONE TOO!!!

Without sounding like I'm supporting anything I think there is a distinction to be made. About 50% of men have shagged a girl under 16. Most were probably of a similar age though and fully consenting, law not withstanding. It's a bit of a leap to say that that's every bit as bad as kidnapping and raping a toddler.

Not that I'm supporting what Mr Savile is alleged to have done. He sounds like a nasty old fucker.
