I love it how you guys turn a post about the crapness of Realm Warfare into a discussion about classes in 8vs8.

Read Mactavish post again.

Keepfights/zerging are (and have always been) uninteresting because they are slow and there isn't much RP to be found.
8vs8 is the highway (and always has been) to the high RR.
The game is imbalanced in that way.

And Albion is underpowered as a realm when they want to take their keeps back because the 8vs8 Albs are not willing to help take the Hib/Mid keep because that would stop the instant RvR. And then the Alb keeptakers have to face ALL Hibs/Mids including those that play 8vs8 (who want to keep their port to RvR ofc) at those keeps, alone.

That's where the defeats and the frustrations come from: people from the same realm having opposite objectives.

I don't blame the players. I blame Mythic. As I said before the "kill=rp" ruleset is too simple to balance the different ways of playing RvR.

Having returned to DAoC this month after being at University and not being able to play due to the firewall that blocks me when I connect from Halls, the biggest shock I got was not the overpowerdness of banshees and warlocks, but the way people now play the game. I swear, I never thought I'd see the day where about 20 Albs run around between Berks and Beno looking for solo fights, whether they be in full view of other realm mates or not, and flame eachother when they add. It's amazing. There were barely any groups all day as I wandered around the RvR zones, and the groups that did exist where mostly hib/mid FG's running around rolling over the Alb soloers (which, by the way, I do not blame them for, as a) the soloers would probably quite happily add on the hibs/mids when they were fighting someone else and b) there were no alb FG's at the time for them to fight because everyone was too busy running around looking for one versus one fights). This is not a duelling game, it is a realm versus realm game. It can never be a game about duelling until hard rules that players cannot break because of game mechanics, are implemented to ensure that duels cannot be interfered with. Until a consensus is reached by all players that this is how we should play the game, noboy ca expect people to abide by convention. If it isn't from Albion, it is my enemy and I will do my utmost to clear it from our Frontier. Quite how people can advocate how duelling is the only 'fun' way of playing this game these days is beyond me, when we all know that a players class, equipment and spec can allow him to dominate his enemy, no matter his skill or his opponents.

love this ppl qqing about overpowered hib when the best setup for RvR atm is alb with : 2 clerc 1 sorc 1 theur 1 friar 1 pally 2 mercs why ?

- best mezz, 6 resist , 1 theur can win a fight if know to play , 1000 AF with a pally + plus mercs with DT ( 1000 af + DT from mercs = more chance to win tanks vs tanks grps ( if ma goes for tanks ) , acces to STT , 2 grapple bots + friar can go offensive ( warden sux offensive) and a long etc.... but you guys keep playing scouts or your silly mincers .... instead of try to make a decent fg.

Now we only need to find the active Friars and Theurgs :-|. Until then we'll enjoy Hibernia's double grapple and Midgard's 3 healers.

anyone with half a brain that plays daoc regularly in rvr will after a while try to find fights which involve more then "strenght by numbers".

mythic should have implemented a negative tohitbonus in rvr long ago.

Excuse me from enjoying the game that was mean't to be fun but you gits piss me off with all this opt, leet crap. Flame away and role players agree but come on there must be some enemy that agree with me. Albion may have more players but we are soooooo under powered it's unreal.
There's not more I can say on this thread but lay off us underpowered realm < this comming from an armsman with an uber rr5 realm ability> the meek shall inherite the earth.
I agree with you bud,it must have been a bit of a shock when you came back to state of RvR play now but sadly we gotta put up with it, a lot of fun has disapearred out of the game, but we gotta make best with what we got imo.
Was gonna type loads but not much point as some prick will just post that there is too much writing to absorb.
But lmao at Niko referring to one of the most respected armsman from OF as some armsman lol

we just make use of what abilitys we have avaliable to us! 2 bl's in a gorup you guys run 3 bm's alot of the time mdis run 1 bd and maybe 2 zerkers thats 3 bl's just because we put the abilitys to a bit more use then you guys!

moan whine what ever you guys moan about when ppl bomb they are skill less n00bs when a merc bombs hes left on 10% hp = easy target m8 omg 10% hp im gonna kill you all only reason i live is due to good clerics and yes reaver rr5 + can bomb sq twf stay alive and cause havock!

i realy do fine it funny how ppl moan about bomb people bombing the other groups when its abilitys that are run in nearly every blody group! its just up to the players to use them!

Stupid questions, stupid threads, will most often get stupid answers and flames. That's all I have to say.

As for the "armsman" I didn't know about, should I pity him because he chose the wrong class and got a bad RR5 RA? Or what are you saying? You don't see me whining here like a complete idiot because my RR5 is next to worthless. And for the record, if he was an "old and respected player" he should've understood what most ppl understand at rr3, there is no such thing as a better realm. Some classes are better, some are less good. DEAL WITH IT INGAME.

With love!

Niko

Uhm, i gotta laugh at this, because obviously you've never actually played hib, hib has always, and i literally mean always been grounded into dogmeat by mids.

the way i see the balance of daoc, and its been more or less like this since i started rvr'ing(pre SI)

mid>hib>alb>mid etc.

what is it thats so overpowered about hibs? i dont really get it from an albs perspective, they have poorer cc sorc->bard, same usefulness of light tanks merc/bm, bm seems to have better effects on styles while mercs have higher dps, true the taunt thingy on bainshee is kinda annoying, but im pretty certain its not quite as annoying as nearsight, and seeing as a high rr cabalist nukes just as hard as a bainshee, while having a pet and lifetap nukes the difference doesnt seem to great, what setup are you running since you're complaining about hibs being overpowered?

Sigh, I played a Mana Eld and a Warden, thank you. Go ahead and have a laugh.

Taunt can not be purged/cure liked nearsight and there are no active high RR Cabalists who nuke for as high as high RR Bainshees and still have a red nearsight. It's not only about a setup or how the game is intended to be it's also about how the game actually is. Now I see hib groups daily with Bainshees but no Friars, no Cabas, not many Theurgs to fix the utility issues of Albion. Anyway...

Midgard group setup with 3 high utility Healers and a Shaman is something out of league and I agree on what you said.

I don't care about group 8 vs 8 balance that much cause it's partly Albion's own fault for e.g. not grouping Heretics or Warlord Armsman to neglate magic / melee damage and as long as things like this have not been tried and all this leet idiots insist on their ubah setups there is no right to moan about it and even in the not perfect Alb group or some group with 4 Ice Wizzards you can still have fun and get RPs but there certainly are some utility issues, just compare the Cleric to a Druid or even a Healer, *cough*. I was not refering to 8 vs 8 with my comment.

"what is it thats so overpowered about hibs?" -

Keep/tower siege with Animists e.g., but this has been fixed, I think Heretic with monster rezz and a healed monster solves the problem pretty well and towers can be destroyed now. Baseline stuning is really annoying in 1 vs 1, if I have to purge it and if can't kill the caster while I have stun immunity, I better go away and come back when my purge is up. You don't have to purge mezz/root, but you have to purge stun, it just sucks. And there exist BGs beside of NF where baseline stuning is so jack shit, it's unbelievable. Meet your Void Eld friend in Molvik.

2300 range, low mana cost perma interrupt, 1 shoting casters for 750 and 750 crit, very funny game. And also grouped and BG'ed very often.

There only reason I don't moan about Warlocks as much Bainshees is because they run solo and play utterly shit in comparison to some well played Bainshees.

Beside of that I think the game should have more survivability, some (especially 1 vs 1) fights are just too short in comparison to GW or WoW fights. If you get jumped badly you can start to type /release and I really don't see the fun of base line stuning opponents with purge down and nuking the crap out of them before they can do anything or having such a high DPS as a Bainshee has.

Sorry, but this is easy mode for me. Now waiting for some "but you're an OP'ed Sorc comments"...

I like the game, but I know some people who left the game for the reasons I stated, you know the deal.

they only reason because time changed was that all the whining people left hib(and go alb or mid) and the hib players (by heart) stayed and worked on playstyle and there charakters :eek2:

I find that statement just plain funny - wont even bother to dignify the claim that choice of realm has anything to do with what kind of person someone is in terms of commitment or playstyle.

And martok is right about the banelord abilities - why not use them? If you guys keep giving us nice boxed up bomb targets - i mean you know we usually run at least a double banelord group by now surely?

To a certain degree his argument makes sense.

However after a point playing long enough in the game for a lot of people the focus shifts to testing yourself against other people rather than just beating players for a lot of people - myself included - thats personally why ill always love 1-1 of 8-8 better than any other type of fight.

Shame you cant get it mostly these days.

not really true. That setup at rr5+ gives really good runs for the money, and is also very fun to play in aswell. RR5 is fast to reach if running a set group.

Personally I think a wellplayed reaver instead of 2nd merc is a better setup since its more flexible overall then but each to their own ofc.

Key to wins with this setup is using MLs well and pretty much everyone need to be high ML.

Try that post again Manisch. You start on one point, then it merges into another, then you change the subject. o_O

Martkok: As for your group using the BL shouts better. You choose to use AT and risk dieing quickly, once every 10 minutes along with other BLs, and many times don't actually kill anyone doing that, DI has gone sure, but 1-2 spreadheals and the enemy is back to full hp. Usually the times you kill groups with bomb is when they are unware/unprepared for it. I prefer to use demor, every 5 minutes to prevent the other group doing as much damage for a period of time.

Also, to clarify, i don't moan about you bombing, i laugh at it as from my point of view that is the only way you win fights, once every 10minutes with reaver + merc bomb, and ae fire dd's (no idea if your wiz has VP).

BD > SM tbh in terms of OPness.

A BD can be killed easier by ma train than SM. A BD gets ofc far more instas and stuff and generally causes more havoc, but I've known 4 tank train not hit a sm below 80% due to pet intercepts. Our casters need a bg to be capable of the things a sm can do without one. Plus our casters suffer from bg timer, movement, player error, lag, reaction time and all sortsa shit. Bd drops easy vs decent train and is susceptible to melee stuns, unlike sm whose pet will seemingly absorb all melee stuns. In certain situations, therefore SM more oped than all three. :)

DAoC is a competitive game and therefore encourages people to try to win. As usual in a competitive environment, this means a proportion of people will try harder to win than others. To some, winning is the only thing they care about. This isn't anything to do with DAoC, it is the same in any game.

Elitism spreads more in computer games because all the wannabes can have their dreams come true. In non-computer-based games, a large proportion of the people who only care about winning still lose - because they don't have the talent to win. In DAoC (and other computer games) winning is to a large extent formulaic. There are only a finite (in fact, quite small) number of choices the players can make, and this enables to people without talent to emulate the people with talent.

This makes winning more about inclination and time spent than talent. Sure, there is a certain amount of skill in the execution, but it plays a relatively minor part in success. Choose the right class, spec it the right way, put the time in to get equipment and make the real life sacrifices required to participate in an RvR guild and you'll win more fights than you lose. Not through skill, but simply because you put more effort into winning than into other areas of the game.

There is still room for people who don't care so much about winning. However, you have to GENUINELY not care. In other words, when you lost most fights you need to still be happy. Sure, losing EVERY fight is no fun for anyone, but there is middle ground between that and being elitist.

I don't agree that Alb is underpowered. Alb is the realm with the best range and as such has a very big advantange in many situations. I'd guess Mid are the strongest realm typically, but then they need to be. Before Warlocks, Midgard had been all but deserted on most servers and that's no good for anyone. We need 3 healthy realms.

I HAVE NEVER SEEN YOUR GROUP WIN A FIGHT WITHOUT USING BANELORD + REAVER BOMB.

Clear enough? I dare you to tell me what i have and haven't seen, and that i'm lieing. It will make me laugh so much i'll probably thank you for being such an idiot.

But what's your point in saying it then? If - as you seem to be implying above - you are really saying "I've not seen them win any other way, but I accept that they probably have done when I am not around" surely your comment is just redundant?
