The NFC is a chicken & egg problem. Retailers cant be arsed with it because no one has a phone that can do it and users wont buy the phones because retailers dont support it.

Yeah, but there's a third group stepping into this now, the telcos. The likes of O2 (Telefonica) and Orange are busily setting themselves up as banks, and they're the ones pushing a lot of the agenda. O2 have launched the O2 money card for two reasons; eventually the card will be on the device, and its main uses will be NFC and online purchases, particularly apps etc. All the presentations I've seen recently are coming from them and are particularly targeting ticketing and food and drink (the idea is there could be big labour savings and footfall speed ups in the likes of M&S Food or WHSmith). Funnily enough it works less well in Coffee Shops because it pushes people to the pick-up counter too quickly and you get a logjam of waiting customers. There's a coffee chain here using a similar kind of pre-pay card system (Zapatag) and at busy times its thrown up this problem, and it actually reduces customer satisfaction even though the total time spent getting their coffee is exactly the same as paying by cash, they feel like they're spending longer waiting around.

I was discussing this in depth with my mate today, and I really couldn't care for dual core anything or an increase in megapixels given those megapixels are pointless due to the utterly dreadful lens infront of the sensor.

The 'best smartphone' crown, imo, will go to whoever can make a smartphone with a battery that lasts several days (and I mean at least a week). I found an old, still in the box Motorola phone when I was having a serious clearout, so I charged it up and put a sim card in it to see how long it would last on standby.

I've got the Blackberry Bold right now and I've been waiting for an upgrade, was hoping for an iPhone 5

I'll still go for the 4S I guess, but the battery life on all smartphones seems shitty. Mine at the moment lasts a good 4-5 days, I see people at work who carry solar chargers around with them, which just seems dumb.

Meh, I cope. I have a Galaxy S2 with a car charger, USB cable for charging/transferring files and a mains charger. I've not been caught short yet. The battery life does seem mighty shit though.

There really is irrational hatred towards some phones. I myself up to about a week ago hated Blackberrys and would not use one. Now i have used one i love it for phone calls emails and texts it is perfect with a battery that lasts twice as long as other smart phones. It works for me because i have an iPad, but without one you lose a lot of apps going to blackberry. It does have WhatsApp and TuneIn though so I am happy
