What Ch3tan said.
S2 is still a damn good phone considering how long it's been out, but with the S3 round the corner you should ask yourself if hanging on a couple of months will give you a better comparison.

For 300 Euros you will not be waiting for the sg3 to buy that SIM Free but it will likely drop the price of the sg2 so it might be worth waiting to see if it drops in price at that time?

The battery on the HTC is bad, like, it makes the life on the S2 look good :)

Battery on my OneS is vastly superior to my SGS2

Gone since friday getting home from work without charge and still ~40% after getting home with about 70%

If you can wait, wait for the S3 launch. Samsung may go mental and give it a monster screen or something equally silly :) Then see :)

My son has one, and says exactly the opposite, having gone from an S2 to a One. I still have an S2, and it seems better to us

My sisters S2 seems to go through its battery fast where as my One S seems rather frugal, although she doesn't stop using hers however.

Probably want to wait for the S3, although I get the feeling like the X it'll be a bit of a monster in size.

If you want it for less than 300 euros it will be a Galaxy S2 or nowt. Good phones, I could never get on with the screen though, too green tinged for my liking.

Xperia S is worth a look, as is the Nexus Prime. Doubt you'll get either for less than 300 euros though unless you go second hand.

phone battery all depends on what apps your running and how many so one persons phone will most always have different battery life to anothers even if they have the same phone

BTW has anyone flashed the Resurrection Remix Pro 1.3 ROM on the S2? Its supposed to be the best ICS ROM. Can overclock to 1.6 stable apparently.

I dont see why you need to overclock the S2, it runs everything fast enough.

Who gives a toss about overclocking a phone? I've not met anything mine can't run.

OCing a phone is a way to make it run apps faster. But with most current phones this is entirely unnecessary and people just do it because they A-can B-makes them feel like a special snowflake.

In reality you shouldn't do it..ever.
The phones do not have active cooling, they are designed to run within certain temperature ranges that can be passively extracted. Once you start OCing you run the risk of burning up your phone.
OCing draws more juice resulting in significantly reduced battery life. Battery's are also designed into phones to provide just the right amount of juice over a long period of time. Overdrawing on a battery can cause it to heat up and go pop.

This is also why most CPUs are actually underclocked, so they run cooler than they would do normally

All those "oh my phone exploded in my pocket" are generally caused by an overheating phone.

S3 specs came out
http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/androidcentral/~3/m5sqc_ty9Js/story01.htm
  • A quad-core CPU running at up to 1.4GHz with 1GB of RAM
  • 4.6-inch SuperAMOLED 720p display (320 DPI) with on-screen buttons
  • Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich with TouchWiz
  • 8MP rear camera with LED flash, 1080p video recording
  • 16GB internal storage plus microSD card support
  • 2050mAh battery
  • NFC support
All in all not so impressive, the battery is decently sized, but powering a quad core i doubt it'll get much more life than a dualcore atm. Also we dont know what the final case design will be. But i expect it to be fairly similar to the S2 design....

Yeah that's not much of a step up really. Next year's releases should be awesome though, when my contract is up

I was expecting something more mindblowing than that TBH. The screen res is certainly a step in the right direction. For some reason I imagined a more powerful CPU and a higher resolution main camera. At £500+ SIM free, I'll be sticking with my S2. By the time they're ready to release the S4, the market will have moved on, and quad core will be everywhere.

Samsung are parting company with Qualcomm and taking as much of their chip production in-house as they can. Qualcomm think they are going to start having pretty epic production shortages so it looks like HTC are going to have some problems in 2012. Samsung's proper quad-core Exynos chip won't be ready in time for the S3 (or maybe this year at all) but it's going to be awesome when it arrives...
The new quad-core Samsung Exynos chip is expected to be 26 percent faster, while using 34 to 50 percent less power. Each core can be shutdown independently to conserve energy depending on the tasks at hand. The Exynos 4412 model can run from 200MHz to 1.5GHz, and will include four ARM Mali graphics cores, a 64-bit Neon media engine, and a dual-channel memory controller.

The Exynos 4412 is said to be powerful enough to support a phone with an integrated projector and a 1080p 3D display. It will directly compete with Nvidia’s Tegra 3 quad-core processor for a place in tablets and high-end smartphones this year.

I had it on mine, then switched to CM9 pretty quickly. The battery life was fucking horrific. Mine was nearly dead before leaving work from 100% that morning with very minimal usage.

CM9 hasn't been bad so far, but ICS seems to be harder on the battery IMO than Gingerbread.

A page has popped up on amazon.de claiming that the S3 will have a 4.7" screen and a 12mp camera... Interesting stuff.

Apparently the S3 will go on sale May 29

Can't say I'm blown away by the specs TBH. Unless I brick my current S2 trying to feck around with CM9, I'll give it a miss. Could be tempted by the Galaxy Note tho...as a new toy...

The S3 has just leapfrogged the OneX in my "next phone" list.
  1. Samsung Galaxy S3
  2. HTC One X
  3. Asus Padfone + tablet
The main thing that bought it for me? Internal storage *AND* micro SD card slot.
