and had a right laugh tbh. I'll share (in random order):

Ill Nino: dreadlocked brazillian people do stuff. there must be something like 17 guys in the band. it's cloudy and I've not had nearly enough beer yet.

Childeren of Bodom: tiny, hairy people with pointy guitars make noise on stage. I can't help giggling which earns me dodgy looks from some skinny nu-metalers nearby. weather still shite.

Shadows Fall: americans iirc. always hard to be the show starter tbh. I don't really listen.

Oomph!: rammstein's kid brother. imo they try (and fail). weather still cloudy. beer nice.

Soulfly: more brazillians. playing sepultura songs. heh. (I know, I know) they have a killer guitarist though.

After Forever: I'm having lunch. At first I thought it was Iron Maiden, then I realised it was a cover. (ooh that should piss off maiden fans ;))

Dimmu Borgir: this band was actually pretty tight. some guys in leather, spikes and makeup do their best to look scary and imposing. big bald people in the crowd jump about making "devil horns" |..|

Deicide: wow this guy gargles with nails and paint thinner. then he swallows. reasonably tight (but not as good as DB imo)

Nightwish: (reasonably) yummy girl yodles while hairy men bang their pointy guitars. they're not bad actually, but I think they play their current single twice. could be wrong though, the gf's been plying me with beer heehee.

Life of Agony: super, but I'm biased. Keith was pretty wasted imo, and took him a while to settle in. the day before they played in Doornroosje, Nijmegen and he was *really* wasted then. band was tight. teh win. sun comes out. I get a sunburn.

Slayer: closing act. muh, I leave with the gf after one song. slayer's not really my thing tbh.

pros - ooh I got a sunburn, ate yummy chicken and generally had a good time. met some old friends. woo, I've not been to a metal-esque thing since I was 16 or so ;)
cons - weather was shite half the day. the only band I really liked was LoA.

Aye that lineup looked rather weak.

Dimmu is pretty tight yeah if you can look pass the pandagear and the theatrics.

Damn lucky, must've been fun. :) Did you get any pictures of Dimmu?

On a separate note, how does everyone pronounce Deicide? :p

Man. These dudes must be aware that their band names are laughable right? Unless...how many of those guys are ENglish? Because you know...like... that Rasmus song...anyone with a reasonable grip on the english language can hear that lyrically they sound the like the attempts of a chubby semi-retarded teenager trying to write a 'deep' song.

and do they call have cooki-monster vocalists? and chugger chugger break down then thrash and wail songs?

good that you enjoyed it though.

Dimmu are mostly Norwegian, Bodom are Finnish. Deicide are from America and I think Slayer are too (or Canada?)
I think the lyrics are pretty smooth. Just because they aren't English, I'm sure they have people that actually check the lyrics to make sure they make sense. :p

Maybe not the same gig or did I miss something? Anyway same bands.

Panda band!

More Pictures

The Rasmus is the worst thing out of Finland in years and I mean they have to beat down Nightwish and droves of shitty acts to earn that crown.

After Forever are dutch and sound pretty much the same as Nightwish. (Female singer going operatic with power metal band comping). Dimmu Borgir are norwegian/danish these days since they kicked Nick Barker out and replaced him with Reno from Panzerfaust. Shadows Fall are indeed from the US. They kinda sound like later day In Flames mixed with a more thrashy sound, since you did'nt bother listening. Catchy stuff anyway.

Dimmu Borgir is icelandic and kinda translates to Dark Fortress while we are on the subject of names. Does'nt sound as evil in english.

aye, I would have posted the link to the dynamo.nl site :)
tbh I wasn't too pleased with the lineup, but I was pleased to see that the organisation is much more open minded than I am, and that they invite distinctly different parts of the scene to come and do their thing.

On looking att hose pohotos, it's clear that the dudes in those bands have obviously made a very good career/life choice cos there's no way on earth they'd get laid if they werent in a metal band.

well, teh wimmins tend to do strange things when one's just been up on a stage banging a guitar, so I suppose they get plenty. unless they've given themselves the angsty depressed world hater persona I guess ;) there were plenty of reasonably yummy girls walking about the fields that day, and even ultra-picky me was well pleased ;)

Damn you Andy, you missed the only good band other than Slayer. After Forever are great, although why they would do a Maiden cover is beyond me - must have sounded shit, can't see their style fitting it at all.

Their last album wasn't that hot but their first couple are great albums.

Never heard of LOA.

I stumbled across After Forever by chance, listened and loved her voice. There's some really great (IMO) drumming and some nice sounding guitar work. And for once a metal band that incoporates strings has managed to do it well, with taste and without it sounding shit. Need to re-listen to the new album but her vocals don't seem anywhere near as strong, which is a major disappointment, as her voice was the main thing that dragged me into them....

I still love metal, but I don't really actively seek it out like I do other genres at the moment. There are so few metal bands these days with a good sound, real talent and the ability to write good MUSIC (not just technically good sounds) that it makes seeking bands out a waste of time, and painful to the ears.

If you've got any LOA audio I'll be glad to check it out though...

Swifterwazz, read your PMs. and don't you dare say it's shit, or I'll fly over and kick your scrawny tush*

*read: listening to this music for far too long in dark garages and other places where good mucis can be found

Listening now... first track impressions: good music, dodgy vocalist.

Yeah it's all fine apart from the vocalist who sounds strained and incapable on every lyric.

Most annoying..

And yeah, I went back to After Forever the other day and listened to the most recent album: it is indeed poo, they're going down the wrong direction. Very annoying given the strengths of the prior two albums.

well, you may have a point there .Keith Caputo's done some work away from LOA, wherein he really sings instead of putting his voice into overdrive. I personally don't like it, but I'm strange like that :)

I'll check out the other album now, listen to river runs red and they're all poo.

Well, by that I mean I listened to 4 tracks, didn't like his voice, scanned through the other tunes to see if he changes his horrible voice. It sounds like he's trying to sing without moving his mouth.
