Of what? The animals bit or the culture bit? Because the first one has been pretty much proven, and the second is pretty self-evident, we liking sex definitely came along before the discovery of art.

I do not deny that our initial hedonistic view of sex, in its most primal form, went on to influence artistic expression. However, I do not believe that society's current view of sex is as a result of biological urges. Porn and society have influenced our perception of sex too much for that to be true.

I know why they did it, although I don't think it was just about controlling women; there are other "anti-pleasure" strands running through western thought that come from the Greeks, the Romans and others; the concept of asceticism and denial of one's urges making you a better person isn't only a Judaic thing; its just that the book religions were much more effective at forcing the idea on a huge number of people.

I can only agree with this.

Yes but its a continuum; with Francis of Assisi on one end and Wij on the other.

I disagree. They are not mutually exclusive.

The vast majority of animals do not have sex for pleasure. Our hedonistic view of sex is a cultural and societal thing.

Two things:

1) What makes you think that animals don't have sex for pleasure? Most of them fuck farrrr to often than procreation necessitates.
2) WE do.

A direct question: In light of number 2. above - what exactly is wrong with a 'hedonistic' view of sex?

Edit:
I agree with your post. However, out of curiosity, why do you believe [people who don't like sex are weird]?

Because the tiny number of them I've met are some of the most fucked up people I've ever come across. Not really strange considering they're broken enough to not actively enjoy one of the most enjoyable things we can do as animals.

On the point of animals not having sex for pleasure purposes only. They do, that's how reproduction works. "This is fun, more of this please!" and then anture does the rest.

Humans simply understand more and have a seperate concept of pleasure.

A lot of animals hump the same sex even, that's not for reproduction, but for "release" :p

Actually, the general view is that the pleasure aspect is probably true for male mammals (although there's also a dominance aspect involved), but not necessarily true for female animals. It looks like Bonobo females unequivocally enjoy sex, and even form lesbian relationships for the purpose of sex and mutual bonding, and other female apes and dolphins do have sex outside oestrus, but its not really obvious for other female mammals although I'm sure some enterprising scientist would only be too willing to wire up a female cat to see if all the racket they make is accompanied by a serotonin spike; they certainly don't look or sound like they're enjoying it when the local Tom is giving them what for.

They would have to somehow link it to climate change to get funding though...

I think getting puritanical about sex and porn leads directly to suppression of the sexes and enforcing the sexual norms.

Marginalising homosexuals and anyone else 'different'.

As a parent its quite clear that the real threat to kids innocence is the insidious sexualisation of children treating them as small adults.

You can now dress your daughters like a hooker pretty much from birth, kids in primary school are being targeted by cosmetics/perfume companies.

Its the legal mainstream media which are the biggest problem.
