Your all wrong, you want to take up my hobby, staying as still as possible, for long periods of time, whilst consuming high quantities of fattening food and sugary drink.

There's nothing wrong with spending 2.5 hours in the gym, no regular in my gym spends less than 2 hours at any time

Only if you're doing a lot of CV work.

Sometimes I had a CV day but I pushed real hard for 1 hour and then that was it.

So why do people go to the gym?

To keep fit?
To lose weight?
Or to get really big muscles to impress the laydeeez and look hard down the pub?

My reason is because after a year of sitting on my backside my circulation suffered :/

Then I got bit by a dog and was ill for a week. After that I knew it was time to get fit and although it was hard to start with I feel a lot better after working out :).

And hey if it helps me pull then that's a bonus, but someone going into fitness / weight lifting needs to do it for themselves and not others or they won't have the right frame of mind when working out.

I do it because I like my body to look nice. It's nice to look in a mirror and see that you actually take care of yourself, as opposed to sitting in a chair day and night like a fat cunt staring at a screen :p

Vain? Probably. Care? Nope

Here was my reasons :

At 18/19 left home for college.

Found a flat to rent (in Edinburgh) which was 4th story flat.

Found that I was SHAGGED out just walking up the stairs (no lift)

Decided tim to lose weight (at that point I was 14.5 stones, 36inch waist)

Took some DRASTIC steps :

Started running (every morning 5 miles or so)
Started Judo (Tuesday night at college, then started training with the Scotland team at Meadowbank)
Tae Kwondo - Every Thursday night
Weight Training (Every day)
Started squash (at outplacement (1 hour every luchtime and 2-3 hours every night)

Mixed this with a careful (cheap - i was a student) diet

After 6 - 8 months, things started paying off. Dropped to 10.5 stones and 28inch waist.

Why did I do it - cos it made me feel good.

Well, I started exercising because: Last october I was 25 Stone.

16 now :)

Had: 50 inch trousers, now 38.

6'4" btw.

It's what online gaming did for me, but I don't regret it.

Oh yea, I'm still losing the weight, trying to get to around 14-15 stone.

My girlfriend visits two gyms regularly and she took me along. Both of them really freaked me out. I don't know what it was - probably felt too self-conscious, being a skinny bloke.

I imagined everyone was looking at me in my crap shorts thinking "no prizes for guessing why he's here" even though I know nobody gave a shit.

Or maybe it was the sight of everybody siting/standing/lying on these huge black machines staring at huge TV screens with little headphones on.

Perhaps it was just too much like PE at school, except with a plush decor and restaurant.

Couldn't hack it for long and hid in the pool while m'lady did her stuff. Never going back. Am I the only one who feels like this?

how would you go about doing those?

i tried ones where you hang off a bar using your legs and did sit ups like that, much harder

The whole point of a crunch is that it's a 'compressed' or 'efficient' sit-up. Sitting all the way up is actually really inefficient as only the first part of the move does any decent excercise.

I can easily do 200+ sit ups....but I struggle to get 30 crunches out in one go. Normally do 3 x 30, and then 6 x 15 on the sides (lurrrve handles:D)

abs have only a limited 30° range of motion, just enough to raise the shoulders off the floor. But 30° is more than adequate to develop this attractive muscle group

Heh heh.

Are you trying to wriggle out of the fact that "Buffed N' Built is dedicated to mature, gay men everywhere who want to improve their physiques, their self-image, their vitality, and their self-confidence."

Too late, Perplex! Your Favourites list has given you away!

Plenty of time for work :

Bookies in the afternoon (working) and Saturday

Working pub in the Friday/Sat evening

Worked in Dixons on the Sunday.

You just need to know how to manage your time

College work - did that between 2am and 5 am (apart from actually attending college - did that through the day.
