Over the 4 years that we've been working with Mythic, both we and they have learnt a lot about collaborating on projects like this. While there are a lot of details to be finalised between now and the launch of the game, legal obstacles to be hurdled, technical considerations to be .. er .. considered and procedures to be thrashed out, WAR will benefit from all of that experience from the start.

The broad plan is for there to be no difference other than community based ones - language, timezones etc - between any WAR servers worldwide. Patches will be rolled out simultaneously as the game is designed to be localised from the outset and translation will run parallel with development, customer service systems and policies will be identical and any events, special content etc will be universally available. There is no hidden meaning behind any of the questions and answers, what they say is the way it is planned to happen, there's no dancing around or misdirection to be read into them.

Anyway, for the rest of you - here's a little something from Mark Jacobs:

I expected that this move wold generate all sorts of feelings here as well as across the DAoC and Warhammer communities. This decision is one that we made only very, very long and complicated negotiations and discussions with GOA. Let me say just a few things:

1) GOA & Mythic could have done a better job in launching and maintaining DAoC in Europe. While GOA & Mythic did a lot of things right in Europe with DAoC (keep in mind that prior to WoW, DAoC had more success in Europe than any other MMORPG), we could have done better.

2) Both sides realize that with WAR it is crucial that we do a better job than we did with DAoC. And having both sides required to do a better job was going to be part of the deal.

3) If either side doesn't do its job, changes will be made.

GOA has been and I believe will continue to be a great partner for us in Europe just as Mythic has been a great partner for GOA. The things that we are commited to do for our European players are much more extreme (and expensive) than we did for DAoC. The same is true for GOA. GOA went to great lengths to get these rights ever since Mythic signed the deal with GW (we even have a number of GOA people in our office right now) and we have no concerns about their commitment to WAR now and in the future.

As always, all I ask is that the community gives us a chance to see how things work out.

This thread already made me decide i probably play Europe servers run by GoA. Reason being the clueless, whining twats that piss me off most days that read this board are saying they will be on the US servers. Means be better environment to play on and at the same time wont be at a disadvantage with patch lags so I be able to put forward ideas in a constructive mannor to try improve the game while they all cry on their servers about people they dont like

from what i remember reading a while ago Mythic were not going to have a EU version and A US version, instead they were going to run the whole thing together to make it more like 1 company.

HOWEVER i suspect that mythic will be working closely with goa so instead of the current situation where we have 2 different clients 2 different games and 2 separate lots of servers i suspect that we will see a server list that is zoned based on where you are connecting from.

So it would be like having all the EU servers currently run by goa and then all the US servers being run by mythic.

Well thats what i read not sure if it will happen that way, i cant see why it cant happen unless they go down the route of different clients for different languages. (which would be silly) either way if mythic do the usual trick of CREDIT card only ill be staying with goa dont have a credit card and dont want to get one (just yet)

Am i way of if i say that i havent been abel to play daoc 100% for 6 month in total because of ot? it isnt lagging now but how can we be sure we wont get 3 month again sometimes where you cant play because 50% of grp/raid ld's because of ot?

for some reason i dont think goa have anything to say when it comes to ot an i also doubt that goa can do shit about it like always other then say send more pingplotters or its your connection its wrong with!!

Going to see how this pans out, I would hop over to the US servers but the big sticking point would be the time diffrence for raids etc. Ive got no issues with GOA, my problems are with the fact that we get patches later than the US and it feels (albeit seems alot better lately with the game launch polls etc) that the feedback of the eu players seem to be second priority over the american player base.

...I personally will not give any money to a company ( GoA ) who have failed its customers in a way so that for month(s) one of their servers were UNPLAYABLE. If you chose to believe any fancy fairy tails the represtants of their company tells you, then sure do that.

I dont know much about this open-transit business but it seems to suck

I give GOA all of my support with WAR, for the first few months anyway, if htey fuck up too much, i wreckon many will seriously consider moving to US servers. There has only been a few major hick-ups that come to mind and i dont mind dealing with them, but if GOA underestimates the impact WAR will have they are likely to lose customers to the US servers.

Folks,

Based on what I've read here I just had a brief chat with the GOA folks about OpenTransit. I've been assured that those problems will not occur (other than the usual disclaimer because of true unexpected technical failures) with WAR.

In terms of Northern Europe having a worse experience than the rest of Europe if that is still a problem when WAR is in beta, GOA will do what is necessary to ensure that is not a problem at launch.

In terms of the opening of betas, are hope is to have the an English language beta for US/Europe right from the beginning and localize content as soon as it is complete in small chunks to allow Europeans who can't participate in the English language beta to participate in a European beta. The key is that we don't want to have to localize the same content three times or more during beta as that will slow down development of the game as well as add substantially to the costs. Besides, when we make our dumb mistakes early on we want to minimize the number of people who see them.

In terms of being upfront about things, that is the way I've always been and always will be. You may not like what you hear from me (or from Mythic) at times but it will always be the truth. A good Community is built on trust and communication between its members and in our case, the Community leaders. The last thing I will aloow to happen is that trust to be misused or worse, to be destroyed.

I know nothing I can say will make everyone happy (no shock there) but I would not have done this deal unless I believed it was in the best interest of Mythic and GW. The excitement, interest and involvement of GOA to date has left me feeling rather good about what we will be able to offer to our European players. Things are looking great on all fronts and we are well on our way to a very interesting and exciting Summer.

In order for GOA to be "succesfull" on EU they need to forfill 4 points imo:

1)Guarantee that OT wont fuck up the servers again

2)Have ingame CRS like on the US servers - fast and active help when needed.

3)A test server for people to try out new specs ala Pendagron.

4)Patches up to date alongside US.


Afaik only #4 is promised now.. other than that - well I dont blame ppl for wanting to move US. Now there is the chance of starting all over at least.
Personally I would probably stay EU due to timedifferences and a slim hope of GOA actually forfilling its new task better than with DAoC.

Having said above I too think that GOA havent done that bad a job and even though there have been some hickups they have proven to be pretty stabil over the years. Now is the time to sharpen the edges and give its costumers a truely costumerfriendly game (see above points)

GoA specifically have never fucked up... OT fucked up and GoA pushed to get it fixed. I had 1 period of time where the game was unplayable due to OT lag. Other then that I have been fine. 4 years with just the 1 time of a fuckup (which they couldnt control but helped to fix) aint that bad in my opinion.

Sure bring up the Prydwen database thing if you want, unforeseen circumstances, yes it took awhile for it to get sorted but they did the best they can. And what they done was IGNORED mythics advice of a full server wipe and start again, instead opted to take a long slow and costly procedure of fixing every account. I personally prefer them taking ages to get a fix then a full database wipe making me lose 4yrs of effort.

What else is there, ah yes. The UK catacombs release.... well guess what.. wasnt GoA that caused the problem. Only way around it would have been delayed the release Europe wide. I probably know more about you about what happened (I listened to what was said, I looked into a few things and I drew up some conclusions that certain sources informed me correct logic etc and pointed me where i had made a slightly wrong assumption.)
If you want to complain about that, then you will have to go to all the major outlets and complain about an agreement they made for what was to happen that week.

Hmm, so... Opentransit - Yes it can be shit, but not had to many problems. GoA done what could to help. However OT are major providers around many parts of europe so relocating may not be best idea. Least where they are the problem areas are known and dealt with quite speedy now.

Prydwen problem - Total fuckup but they couldnt predict it. Corrupted backups may have been avoidable but dont know their system so cant say. They picked the better of 2 evils in my mind against all recommendations.

Catacombs - Pay attention in future to all being said, 1+1=2, 1+2=3. Follow the snipets of information, make conclusions. Logic normally will lead you to correct answer.


So - there may be some negatives but there alot more positives... how about you get Sony to host it? You must know what happened with them.

WOW had major cockups during its process (still alot of problems imo),

Dark and Light... Well... If you want an idea of a joke then go there... but lets put it bluntly. They fucked over the people that paid them in advance, and still not released a game that works properly even though the actual game is out. And want an idea of their stupidity? I pre-ordered it. After yet another pushback I got a refund, and then the day before the release it sent me the CD-key, the download area, my login name/password and how to activate my pre-order benefits.

In a lot of ways GoA are one the best providers out there at the moment for a stable environment, need more ingame support which hopefullly is part the agreement for this. We will see closer to the time but im sure they know these things.
