The first person is simply saying that your preferences might be based on underlying prejudices learnt from society, which is a perfectly reasonable thing to say. She even says (at 3:55) that she won't tell you that you have to be attracted to someone you're not attracted to - you've actually presented us with a video that doesn't support your claim. And the second video, at 1:33 she says that in her opinion, preferring not to date trans people is not transphobic, just ignorant. Which is a slightly more harsh position than the first woman but she still isn't saying you must be attracted to her, and she doesn't say that you're a Nazi if you don't.

So why did you post those videos?

OK, in the first example, if you make the claim "based on underlying prejudices learned from society" you're immediately trying to claim the moral high ground. The basic claim from all trans-gender people is that their need to change gender is innate (nature), not a lifestyle choice. This is a bedrock argument for transgender rights. By claiming you may have prejudices (a perjorative term in itself) that are learned, the implication is you can unlearn them. I fundamentally disagree. The desire not to fuck other men ( no matter how much surgery and hormone treatment is involved,) is just as innate. If there's a gay gene, which apparently there are a couple that contribute, then not having them (or expressing them) is a biological fact as well.

In the second example, saying "oh you're not phobic just ignorant" is more of the same. It implies you're not making an informed decision, when of course you are, it's just a decision that trans person doesn't like.

I'd have far more respect for you if you just said "I understand that for a lot of people what is acceptable changes over time but I'm unable to assimilate this intellectually without it threatening a world view that some called outdated but I feel is "right" - so I hate gays, blacks, minorities, think transgender people are just fucking crying idiots and think anyone who can assimilate these changing views of the world a liberal handwrining lefty wanker with no grip on "reality". (Reality as I see it, of course, the rest of you are twats)."...

I'm not against that argument.

The fact that some men do change their minds, however, lends support to the opposite. We're not long away from a society where the majority of people thought like @Job. There've been societies where there wasn't a word for "gay" (everybody fucked everybody) so I daresay if post-op transsexual was possible then it wouldn't have been blinked at really (or maybe even fashionable).

But mostly, I'm inclined to take her advice. - It's not something to get het up about. Remember, transgender people are fighting for more general acceptance (when they've had a hard time of it previously) - so they're going to use language that stirs up the majority. Hopefully in 20 years it'll blow over and nobody will blink any more. Then some other miniority can start bleating on for their acceptance, and maybe even gain it.

But until then, does it really matter? Some people are get *properly* wound up about it.

Holy fuck Scouse I didnt even go there, post after post on this thread with blatant anti trans comments and not a word from you..Im not remotely troubled by transgender people, Ive only written positive posts about them and gays.
