Am absolutely insensed about the mens' team gymnastics. Was watching it all, the Japanese so did not deserve to win their appeal and it took ages to decide. Meanwhile the Brits already thought they had silver. So unfair. You could see all the Japanese sitting sulking. Meant ukraine got pushed back to 4th.

I know you all hate the Daily Mail but Jan Moir 'View from the Sofa' was really worth a read today. Made me chuckle anyway. So much that I agreed with.

Do you understand the criteria of marking? It doesn't sound like it. He was incorrectly marked first time round. Second time round he was correctly marked.

I'm a bit sick of people crying "WAH WAH they didn't deserve it" when they don't even actually understand what happened.

Yes, I fully understood what went on and the marking. I just didn't understand why they didn't mark it like that in the first place as they were watching the same piece of film over and over, seems odd to change their minds so completely like that. Why did they think the 'dismount' was so wrong in the first place if it suddenly was ok? It's not like a goal being in or out.

Because they don't mark from replays they mark from the live event.

And it's nothing like being in goal or out. They didn't mark his dismount down as a dismount, they marked it as him fucking up. The footage showed he made a dismount, an appeal was made that this was missed and it was successful. You say you fully understand it and then display the fact that you didn't :D

I get where you're coming from, but you can't say, we'll mark it from the live event, unless you moan, and we'll do it from the recorded event, seems a bit daft, if they remarked one from recorded, they should remark the whole event, imo.

as Sayward said, like goal-line technology, it's a bit like the ref deciding to use technology to judge one goal, and not the next.

Well the re mark wasn't from the live event... if it was that obvious at least one of them should've noticed in the first place.

Oh god someone explain appeals systems to these idiots :(

None of you ever watch cricket, golf, rugby, NFL etc? No? Is this honestly the first time you've ever seen an appeal system being used in sport?

Yes, but I don't think you catch our drift at all...

If you edit that, you're going to effect the whole result on the smallest thing, but with tennis for instance, it's going to be a yes or no, - carry on, I was corrected, but then you could argue they missed something from every other countries performance, so they should re-check them all.

Are we not allowed to question how things are ran? - Do we have to accept it and nod and smile?

I'm giving my opinion here, not saying this is what it is.

You are fucking insane and do not understand what is going on. :(

You do realise they weren't marking technique or anything like that? They were marking a YES or NO decision like you say - did he make a dismount? They originally said no, but this was wrong.

For fucks sake understand the situation before you spout shit about it. Goddamn. It's ok not to fully understand an Olympic sport you aren't familiar with; you don't need to argue outside of your knowledge here.

Glad you were awake to explain that one.... I would have resorted to a string of expletives.... For me GB getting to the finals was astounding, if anyone had told me yesterday morning GB would take bronze I would have died laughing! Well done to them!

If the reverse had happened, GB not getting scored for a dismount that was performed and then missing out on a medal because of it, would the judges initial decision have been defended the way some of you are doing now?

While scoring for Gymnastics has improved a lot with the new system, any sport that relies on judges to mark the performances doesn't have final results after the last performance, but only after the last appeal has been handled.

They earned the Bronze, if they'd got the silver it wouldn't have been earned, but handed to them on a default. They did amazingly well to get a Bronze considering they weren't fancied to get anywhere near the medal positions before the Olympics started.

First olympic commute accross london - pretty bad and I'm commuting away from the Olympic park so central line fire wouldnt impact me.

First platform was too overcrowded to enter then eventual tube train too packed to get on finally managed 2nd tube but it was a crush.

Reminds me of the tube strike days.

They won silver because that was the correct result for their performance. They appealed against a poor decision and as it turned out they were correct.

It is no different from a tennis player querying an out call at Wimbledon.

Though I suppose they should have done that before the medals were decided...not afterwards.

They didn't ask for this

Yes they did. When they signed up voluntarily.

This is how army staff are treated. Always has been. Always will be. The fact that they've signed up in a job that involves killing other people doesn't inspire respect and "aww give 'em a break" in me...

...but that is a whole other thread. ;)

I understand the point of view that soldiers do a relatively thankless job, but at the end of the day it is their job which they get paid to do and which they chose to sign up for themselves. There are plenty of other people out there doing equally as thankless (though admittedly less dangerous) jobs who aren't being 'thrown a bone' in terms of being given tickets - charity sector workers and nurses are just two obvious ones that spring to mind.

This, tbfh.

School holidays mate
...no way to do this ...

School-age children that turn up with accompanying adult 20 minutes before the event can take any vacant seats for that event for a nominal fee...

If you do that then you may as well have open ticketing at the event for the seats that haven't sold and then at least everyone gets a chance.

As I pointed out earlier though they've already given tickets to schools.

Same for me, but I start at 9.30 and don't have to leave the house until 9 so that could be a factor. :p

Something just said on the radio...

The Chinese girl was actually slower on the return 50m than Alderson (i think thats her surname) was. Apparently this girls also been posting similar times in Asian games and won there recently...

All seems much ado about nothing really. Mercans getting upset as they got beat.
