That's true Cal, although I don't see Canon getting muscled out of the APS-C segment. As I say, that 16 MP Sony sensor that's in the Pentax K-5 and Nikon D7000 is a beauty and I really hope Canon come out with something rivalling it in the way of an 8D or a 7D Mk2 with much improved noise and dynamic range - i'd buy that for a dorrah. Mind you, from what I'm reading on Canonrumors then they may kill off the 7D and go back to xxD, therefore the successor being a 70D in more cheaply made semi magnesium outfit :(.

We'll see.

I hope I am too, not til the Summer though probably. Bear in mind all your EF lenses will be "shorter" on a full frame body, Wazzles.

FUCKING GOOD! :D

Never liked the crop thing, was a bit off when I moved to it from analogue (must go shoot film!). Only ever shot a few thousand on the camera anyway (I'm such a slacker, which I will change with good gear) so it's not like I'm too used to the crop bit. Still would often position myself in incorrect places if I was using a fixed 50mm in the summer ffs :D

If I was going to be completely fickle and buy a lens because it looks awesome it would be the 85 f1.2L II. It also helps that I would desperately want one if I went to full frame and it's one of the best medium-tele primes (certainly one of the fastest) money can buy.

That'll be another £1700 then. :((

It's a lovely looking bit of kit, but I can't say I'm impressed with how it's reviewed with regards to sharpness?

Aye the 85mm L is a beaut. You looked at the Sigma 85mm f/1.4? It's no slouch.

I dunno what Canon were thinking with the 50mm L.

I was guessing it was going to weight in at a good £5000 at least :(.

There's always the private webcam show market Cal.

Yeah the Nikon 200-400mm f4 is a good £5k so the Canon was always going to be more with the built-in 1.4x extender. But... fuck's sake that's a lot of money. :(

Edit - and guess what new flash is probably going to be announced? The 590 EX. And guess what flash I just bought and is probably going to be discontinued? The 580 EX II.

:(

Oh. Oh. I've just read - 40mm f/2.8 pancake?! Finally!

I've always lusted after Pentax's pancake limiteds; ultra small, ultra light and compact but I never thought Canon would produce pancakes.

http://www.pentaximaging.com/camera-lenses/smc_PENTAX_DA_40mm_F2.8_Limited

I wonder if this is in advance of the rumoured mirrorless body? Pancakes go well with mirrorless setups.

I don't really know what anyone is talking about here. I think it's pretty apparently that I just like affordable gadgets :)
What are all these numbers you are saying?

I think you'd be wasting your time shelling out several thousand if that means nothing to you ;)

All I know is it is full frame with better autofocus points!

Is it wrong that I have no desire to learn my hobby in that much detail or learn about photographers and their work?

Shoot / do what makes you happy.

I read a lot of threads on dpreview.com where they clearly spend way too much time talking about photography rather than getting out there. You strike me as a "getting out there" sort of bloke :).

I like to think I'm not bad at it too! My story telling could use more work though.

It is a handsome lens although I use mine as a straight 24mm for 95% of the time.

Really? I'd have thought you'd have an opportunity for large format-esque distortion corrected shifted shots?

it's in Dutch, but I assume you can use a translator.

http://www.digifotopro.nl/content/euroadviesprijzen-fujifilm-x-pro1-en-objectieven-bekend

anyway, couple of things:
thing: lenses all cost exactly the same? quelle coincidence mon ami :-/
thing: according to a source in a shop, Fuji are twisting the retailer's arms to not sell below reccy price -or else-, with or else being that Fuji come and take their inventory away again.
thing: afaik, the above thing is illegal, but they're doing it anyway.
