All I can see is creamier bokeh and nicer white balance on the EF 50mm pic. Focal points are slightly different making a closer comparison harder.
Can somebody point out to me what I'm missing?

Just an old lens that Wazz picked up - what was it again Wazz?

Presume you've shot both at max aperture?

Yes, the bokeh is more pleasing on the Canon lens.

From just an aesthetic point of view, Nikon bodies and lenses are fuggggggggly.

If everything Canon have claimed the 1d-x can do is true (and it's slightly concerning that they are withholding any real world full-size samples of photo and video) then I don't see them losing any sleep over the D4.

Yeah, the lack of full size files has me head scratching. I guess we'll need to wait for official reviews.

I may sound like a narrow minded pixel peeper, but all I want to know is if Canon have made advancements in read noise / shadow noise / pattern noise / dynamic range. This is something that the new Sony Exmor sensors do very well (and Nikon have always had an edge over).

I would imagine you're not going to see it until at least late Summer. They will probably want to concentrate on selling as many 1d-x's to the pros as they can in the run up to that big sporty thing that's happening in the summer.

NEIN! THEY WILL ANNOUNCE IN MARCH/APRIL AND SELL IN JUNE/JULY.

Won't they, please won't they? :(

The internet is in a frenzy over this, it appears a Canon employee has been seen "testing" a new body, probably the 5D Mk3 or 5D X.

http://www.canonrumors.com/2012/01/canon-eos-5d-x-speculation/

The source of the image, including RAW file to counter all the "FAAAAAAKE!" remarks:

http://blog.apertureacademy.com/2012/01/follow-up-post-re-prototype-canon.html

So, it looks very like a 7D body / setup with no pop-up flash. This did have a few "is it a 7D mk2 or 5D mk3?" comments floating about.

This is the most compelling evidence of the 5D Mk2 replacement yet.

More likely to be the 5d3; no popup flash = full frame because of larger pentaprism. I don't think there's much chance of the 7d2 being full frame; it's gotta be the flagship APS-C.

Agreed, it would also really annoy me since I've invested about £1400 on f/2.8 APS-C glass between 11mm up to 55mm.

To be fair, the full-frame market is very small compared to the APS-C segment.

It would also make sense for the 7D layout to be replicated as it's definitely a nicer layout than the 5D Mk2 imo.

Remember, it hasn't made your one any less good. :)

I did the same with the 70-200 f2.8 IS, bought the mk1 about a month before the mk2 was announced. Gutting but it's still a cracking lens.

*UPDATE 2*
Another source highly doubts February 7, 2012 is the date for an announcement. All the little bits of information that are leaking say it’s close, but it may not be that close. Please do not treat February 7, 2012 as fact until I can [CR3] it.

:(
