I also liked Fires of Hyboria, just like Tilda, but maybe it's a bit too generic? On the other hand.. a generic name could be a good thing if we want to write up our own guild background, and not take something that supposedly already exists in Hyboria.

for a RP-PvP server i'd go with somethign along the lines of The Brythunian Vandals. Brythunia being something like the place where the angles and saxons came from in Conan books. Vandals as in ye olde for Bastards.

Actually, Vandals is a more modern word

Brythunian Bastards would work a lot more, in ye old speak aswell.

And i'm nto too sure this lot should call themselves anything like "Holy Knights" or "Templars of" etc.

There's nothing shiny, glorious or good about this lot.

Aye. Language shouldn't be a problem.

PG18 so if they enforce a "non-violent-cursey" name policy, i'm shocked.

And bastards, in that time, meant people that were simply, born out of wedlock, unknown fathers and very VERY often, riffraff scum. It's not a "bad" word even in a normal game

A great recently written fantasy read called The Lies of Locke Lamora. It's about a bunch of thieves and rogues who stick together and always look out for each other. They have their own honour code that would suit a bunch of people in Conan's world.

Their gang is called "The Gentlemen Bastards"

Well no - the Vandals were a germanic tribe that sacked Rome in the 5th century AD - the term was incorporated into english language as a word for thoughtless destruction.

How about this for a very brief backstory?

We are a mercenary company who had worked for some shady kings and princes in the past, without scruples etc. We attract all sorts of soldiers, thieves, hedge mages, sons of whores, stygian dogs and reckless curs. Priests of Mitra might have joined to try to "save" some souls among us, and other priest types would have their reasons. We are bloodthirsty and live for looting. Some might enjoy taking and selling slaves while others don't. This is how we have started out at least, even though there might be ambitions within the guild to become a more "respectable" mercenary force. It would make for future guild politics and plots perhaps?

It seems the recent name suggestions would reflect a guild like this quite well.
