At one point DA about 10 female players in the guild. Someone said earlier that no women play male chars, there is 1 in DA, she 'gets less hassle' that way.

Indeed it can be much less hassle to play a male char sometimes, I tried it on EQ and was surprisingly refreshing in a way. None of the "LOLZ email+pics PLX?!" bullshit.

I was talking about this a while back with another female player at a guild meet-up, and we were classifying the female daoc players you find out there (obviously this is from a woman’s point of view so is much more bitchy than a man’s would be ). You have:

1) The Girlfriend. This is someone who plays daoc on a casual basis, and pretty much only so she can spend time with her boyfriend as she can’t get a conversation going with him unless its about the relative merits of Battler or Malice. She will play occasionally at the weekends and evenings, rarely RvR, and will slowly struggle up the ML and artefact ladder.

2) The Geek. This is someone who is just a female equivalent of the standard daoc player and comes in various flavours, including: PowerRvRer, PvEWhore, and CraftNerd, however they are able to use their feminine wiles to get the best loot/get on raids/get in gank groups. Often mistaken for men playing female characters.

3) The Bitch/Goddess (depending on whether you’re female/male). This is someone that nobody’s sure how they got into the game, but EVERYBODY knows who they are, and who they’ve gone out with/cyb0red with/sat side by side in Llyn Barfog “holding hands” with over the past 3 years. All the male players worship them, all the female players despise them. They usually have enticing surnames, tasteless avatars and go through the male daoc population like a vindaloo through a very short donkey.

Women can sometimes be a combination of two or all three, or move from one status to the other. Personally I think I'm a combination of 1 and 2, or at least started as 1 and moved on to 2 - I don't think I'm a 3, but then I would say that

UNFORTUNATELY, I don't seem to fit in any of those categories! lol well, I think I am somewhere between the girlfriend and the goddess.. it's a very fine line!
It's odd though, the other woman I have met in this game are hard core, they are typically bitches that don't take any crap and generally have a bunch of sweaty men around them willing to obey there every wish lol. And.. I haven't met a woman yet on the online world who said they were a lesbian or bi who didn't turn out to be a man.. lol so watch out all you lesbo lovers.. your woman could turn out to have a penis. lol

There is no stopping what these men might do for her, Pl her char, give her plats.. houses, attention and even real life gifts. She plays the game simply for the power she feels.

I have met a few of these.. and also.. if men do pretend to be a woman in rl.. they tend to play this role mixed with the goddess.. they just want something. They are typically users.

That's almost exactly the sort of person I meant by the goddess/bitch category, but I was at work so didn't explain it very well Its scary though how many men fall for it and just traipse after them with a lovelorn look in their eyes, and are just downright confused when she drops them when they're no longer useful to her. I think that a lot of men try to "roleplay" this role as well as it gives them a feeling of control and power that they can't get in real life.

I think there's quite a few interesting social observations to be made within MMORPG communities

I don't think you can catagorise female players so generally personally. Certainly not into just 3 or 4 catagories at least, I seem to know alot of female players and not many of them i'd class as any of those.

Well im female and i have another 2 females in my guild. i have a ml 10 Ice wizzy and a few more 50's between ml5 and ml8. I started playing on here as my boyfriend did, but i had played some games in the past of the same nature as DAOC

I was just generally evil, short tempered and snappy in game. I was screaming at people atleast 50% of my ingame time.

A control freak indeed, but not by that description. My poor guildies know what I'm talking about.
