Yeh well depends on how you want to do it, there is no "perfect" way to get your goals.
On the interval training! yes its awesome. Get some Sprinting in. A lot of energy in sprinting is used up keeping your upper body from flopping around like a dead fish. its also the main reason that sprinters have a lot of upper body muscle to keep their movements all under control.
