Favorite movies... and what they might tell about us?

We-ell... there have been more retarded threads than this one- and I am honestly interested (and somewhat bored right now;))

So I ask point blank:
What (and how come?) is your all-time favorite movie?

Trolls' most favorite movie is "Ravenous" - with Guy Pearce and Robert Carlyle.
Full of twists and dark humor... grand acting. Never seen a the main "villain" of a movie played so convincingly and intelligent.
Yeah, I am the kind of person that cheers for the bad guy usually..mwhaha

Favorite quote from the movie:
"IT LICKED ME!!!" Harhar... have a good laugh every time I watch it.

Cheers,

Troll

... that's part of the reason why I started the thread... uhm..;)

On the other hand.. taste is part of what defines us as individuals.
It just tickled me to know what kind of movies the other trolls here like to watch.

Oh- and "Deuce Bigalow" - that movie is a gem :D

I would have to say The Rock.

First off I think Sean Connery is one of the best actors alive atm, it also had a very nice "soundtrack" - which was very suiting to that kind of movie.

A good story behind all of it, not too few effects, not too many.

Also had a handfull of well known actors in there which played their parts well.

I could prob see it over and over again without getting tired of it, it has a very nice feel. :)

Good mix of action, sentimentality, drama etc etc... my five cents :p

[edit]
Have to say Lord of the Rings also tho, it certainly struck a nerve.

That scene with Legolas, tze Elf archer shooting everyone in the later part of the movie was so nice, too bad that the elf always end up dead in Daoc :>

I say it because you're a grown man, and somebody needs to break it to you. It was absolutely dire, managed to mangle a genre of film that is usually impossible to screw up (the humourously edged horror), had a soundtrack that sounded like it was made on a yamaha keyboard stolen from the 80's, and played by some of the worlds poorest music students, had a great cast and yet somehow still managed to be complete and utter lard.

If Damon Albarn hadn't been responsible for "Theres no other way" as well, I'd go back in time and cut off his hands at birth, so the world could be spared that monstrosity that was a sound track.

Of course your opinion may differ, but as a mod here, I am right by default ;)

Schindlers List and American History X are tied.

Both movies should be seen by everyone and learnt from.

Starship Troopers. Has there ever been a more at first glance brainless film, which does turn to have some kind of message.

Dogma: Gotta love Kevin Smith movies, and this is the best of the bunch.

Three Kings: Funny, action, some sembelnce of depth.

Basically I like all movies that piss off conservative Americans :)

oh! and the matrix is just cool!

i like any film with lots of action, eg. mi, james bond etc.

anyone seen crouching tiger hidden dragon? that was really really good. one of my friends pointed out something at the end though. why didnt she just fly instead of going on the horsie?

so many films... and theyre all great!

can't believe anyone hasn't mentioned 'the usual suspects' yet.. that movie had an awesomeplot and.. wait, im gonna stop here and not spoil the entire movie ^^

and to avoid going mainstream (and mentioning 'the matrix', 'gladiator' and all that) im gonna stick with some more low profile (old) movies. in no particular order of course:

shichinin no samurai (also known as 'seven samurai'. old japan flick, it kicks ass), the godfather prt 1 & 2 (can't believe these weren't mentioned ether!!!), one flew over the cuckoos nest, fight club (okay it isn't old or low profile but it kicks ass), memento (it's new and it feckin rawks) and ALIENS (i love that movie and all of jc's flicks).

I got tingles when I read this and remembered the scene hearing the cry in my head.

BUT anyway... this just... HAS to be done in categories.

Fantasy/SCI-FI
1. Lord of the Rings: FotR
2. Star Wars: [insert episode]
3. Matrix

Drama
1. American History X (fit this category?)
2. Requim for a Dream
3. Shankshaw Redemption

Comedy
1. Ace Ventura movies :)
2. Jim Carrey comedy...
3. Martin Lawrence/Eddie Murphy/Chris Rock/Chris Tucker comedy :D
4. American Pie 1 (MUST RENT 2, I AM SUCH A DUMBASS FOR NOT WATCHING 2 YET :))
5. (I'd say Men In Black TWO will be on this list since I saw the trailer when I went to watch Spider-man)

Action
1. Matrix
2. Jackie Chan movies
3. Arnold movies :)
(can't remember specific ones right now)

Movies that I just LOVE for some reason.... one is in this category for sure... Spider-man... seen it twice now but I will go see it again a few times. I have absolutely NO CLUE why I love that movie but it is just superb imho. I can't explain it, but I just love the feeling throughout it.
ALSO for some strange reason I really like Queen of the Damned and music-wise it is at the top of most movies ever. In the theaters the performances in it are just great. Damn Jonathan Davis kicks ass aswell.
Oh yeah and what damn category does MEMENTO fall into? Great GREAT movie!
