It could be great news but as others pointed out it would depend on the outcome of there desissions ... will there be char transfers or just moved server park and if char transfer is it to ywain or another server cluster and will it be possible to merge my old EU accounts into my new US accounts .. dont really fancy paying for 4 accounts tbh.

So before i jump up and down in exitment i'm gonna wait for Mythics point of view on this.

cant help but think this is about 8 years too late

as for char transfers be nice but to me that seems like a nightmare to do mythic will want to make sure the player base will want to migrate first

be nice if it breathes life into daoc again it amazes me that in a market flooded with mmo's ppl still regard daoc as the best one of them all

Does anyone remember what happened/how it went about when the Italian server moved to GOA? It was originally run by another company.

wouldn't be surprised, if they start a 2nd cluster. Ywain appears to be at it's limits already and about 2k EU players with a few US might work for a healthy server.
Question is where it'd be located.

well i get a far more stable connection/general gameplay conditions on ywain than i ever did on any of the eu servers so location shouldn't matter too much imo.

I re-rolled on the US Servers (on Kay) about 8 months ago after a 3 year absence form DAoC, brought about by the pathetic state of the eu servers.

I tried other games (Conan, Warhammer...), but DAoC still held my interest, so I bit the bullet, resigned myself to leaving my ML's templated, artie'd-up batch of level 50's plus houses, contents and money behind me ...

I re-created my toons on Kay, now of course we're on Ywain, and I can honestly say I so wish I had done it 3 years ago! Like the previous post, I don't seem to get the issues with lag and disconnections that GOA seemed to suffer, andf it's great to be able to log on at anytime of day and find you're part of a thriving community.

I'll be interested to see how they intend to handle the transfer of players to the US Servers. They mentioned in their statement they are looking at transferring subscriptions (presumably whole accounts) but also mentioned transferring characters (would this mean the odd alt from eu to an already established US account??). That would suit me as I have one or two I'd love to transfer, but not necessarily wthe whole lot. Plus I'm not paying for extra accounts ...

The only down side I've encountered with playing on US is the support, which IMHO sucks. If you think euro is bad, wait until you need assistance here!

Ceddwen (Aug Healer)
Agrivia (Thane)
Cedienne (Runemaster)
etc etc etc

The last couple of patches have been great changes with NPC Buffbot, tradeable BP items + Arty/ML Credits; and now scales making dragon drops available to everyone. If you can soon transfer EU toons, would be nice to see how much longer DAOC can survive. Especially as the popualtion seems to be a stable 3500+. Good News all around.

Just wish they couldve done it sooner, as my new chars on ywain are better than my EU ones, except some special ones hehe.

As someone have pointed out elsewhere, there's actually no mention of a transfer to ywain - just taking over the playerbase. So I guess at the extreme end of things, it's possible they just transfer the servers clustered as they are.

I would think as minimum dyvet would end up clustered with ywain, even if the germans and froggies are kept on their own superclusters, but who knows.

Reckon it's a definate rather than a maybe Gahn, they'd have to be reallly stooopid to make an anouncement like this without having already sorted the basics first, which also involves a 3rd party (GoA).

Main thing I'm worried about is whether can transfer to existing US accounts, as last thing want is a bunch of toons spread over 6 accounts or whatever. Hope they sort details soon anyhow. In limbo a bit with what to lvl and play etc till they sort it.

My reading is that Mythic posted this because they had to; GOA have pulled the plug, they are not making any money from hosting DAoC and these days run their own micro transaction stuff. Pretty sure that Mythic would have allowed GOA to carry on - the only question really is how long have they got to host WAR for?

As far as the contractual arrangement that GOA had with Mythic you would hope that it called for something more than 1 month's notice - 3 months at least (which I think is what the Japanese firm that pulled the plug gave Mythic). If it was 3 months then they have already had a while to think about it. GOA may even have been told last September when the ex-CSR head posted the news. Maybe it was all part of GOA's strategy for - maybe - getting Mythic to pay GOA! (sounds crazy but if it was costing GOA more to run the servers than they were collecting in subs once Mythiv took their royalty who knows).

Either way back when people were begging GOA / Mythic to 'merge' the EU English speaking bods with the US bods the answer came back (after 11 months) that it couldn't be done.

So no one should get excited.

My guess is that the Spanish and Italian servers are toast; there will be a German server and - possibly - a French server (maybe) probably in the US. English server folk get moved to Ywain. (There is a time difference so it won't impact Ywain's peak population issues). Subs might be paid to EA Europe maybe.

Whatever ... Mythic haven't got long to act.

It's a higher probability that there will be one EU cluster rather than letting EU people transfer to US servers

Anyways, if I can play my pryd / excal chars again on an active cluster I might consider resubscribing :)

I like the sound of this, the chance to RvR on my scout again isn't something I'd pass up lightly!

Seriously considering resubbing already, can't wait to see more details about this

That would be something seeing the mighty Kalloth back stalking the lands :)

Things have changed lot since you played a Scout however.

In my opinion the most likely thing is that there will eventually be a char transfer to Ywain. Technically this shouldn't be too hard. Although in the short term they may well leave the German and French clusters as they are because they still have an OK population. All other options don't really make sense.

Because of the way the game was designed each server has to have its own language and its been said many times that it would be a huge technical challenge to change the language to becoming client side rather than server side. Most Europeans have English as their second language, so it doesn't make sense to cluster French + German servers because you would have to force the French to speak German and if you are going to have to play in a foreign language you may as well do it on Ywain with the highest pop.

Finally there is also the issue with patches. Mythic have limited resources and won't want to convert the patches into French+German. Even if they did want to it would be quite hard/expensive finding the staff able to do this (Compared to hiring just a normal developer). Mythic won't want to leave one set of servers massively behind the others as it will make supporting them harder.

Im wondering if they will leave the EU servers running as normal .. its not like they need any support .. although offer a charge to transfer to ywain. Im not expecting it will be free by any standard ..

I've checked and my main account seems to be ready to go :)

Getting all nostalgic now! I've even considered resubbing just for a bit of a walk-a-bout of the server.

No chance of getting my poor loyal Buffbot back though it looks like :( Email's long-gone, dont have the details either - Guess I'll have to make do with the NPC-buffs or something! :)

that can only work if they have the localisations done clientside. and as far as i've heard, while its not impossible it may require more work then Mythic can afford or want to commit.

theres alot of german and french ppl that would get mighty pissed off if Mythic made that cluster english i bet.
