Just fucking realise that if he had kept his head cool, he wouldn't have gotten sent off.

If it hadn't been a shite Argie ref playing a shite cheating team he wouldn't have got sent off. Watch the replay again ...

All I can say is well done to england to how they reacted after rooney got sent off, even if before that they were awful. They gave 100% and really defended well.

As other people have said Hargraeves deffinately the best player on the pitch for england , even though all the stick hes got from the press/supporters.

Christiano Ronaldo is a twat, he isn't going to last 5 minutes at man utd now. I didnt get annoyed until I saw A. The wink over towards the touch line he gave after, and also trying to provoke rooney at the start of the match by getting in his face pushing his head at him.

Did anyone else see this?

All I can say is say goodbye to your career at man utd as the fans are gunna slaughter you!, and so they should.

Though it's just fucking embarassing to see how portugal evolved into an actor team, along with most other teams...Big respect to England for playing clean footie, even though I noticed some tendencies there too. :p

Though i'm incredibly bitter about England losing it was a fairly good game. The portugese did seem to do quite a lot of over-reacting but thats just the way i guess.

It's a shame Beckham/Neville probably won't play another world cup, but thats how it goes sometimes. Will give players like Walcott, Crouch, Lennon etc time to mature and become even better.

So heres to Euro 2008! :D

Sure Rooney should have kept his cool, but failing to see everything that went on before and after that is just f*cking stupid. A good ref would have meant that incident just didnt happen.

England played well and were very solid, but they didn't show enough quality to go further along the tournament IMHO. Neither did Portugal in this match tbh, i was a bit dissapointed with the portuguese match.

I'm off to watch Brazil game now, so I guess we just have to agree to disagree, in my eyes it was a deserved card.

Why is everyone getting so angry? It is a game afterall. Myself I thought England played like lions and after Rooney's sending off the crowd were England's extra man. Portugal don't really deserve to go through because of their previous games but that's football I am afraid.

I just can't believe Lampard and Gerrard tho, they got paid 120k a week and they can't score a penalty, if I was English I'd be very angry.

All I can say is come on Germany! It's always nice when the host nation do well, and they are the only team that have impressed me amoung the remaining teams :)

Also, Sven's flawed tactics, if England were to go through, they would only have 2 strikers for the semi-finals, and one of them is Theo Walcott, who hasn't played a premiership game.

I think FIFA really needs to do something to make it so that it's the teams which play clean & attractive football which succeed, & not the teams which cheat & provoke. I can imagine being a ref is a hard & thankless job, but some of the refereeing at this WC has been dubious to say the least, as usual unfortunately. That's not really the reason England lost this time though. England lost in the end due to a very impressive performance by Ricardo in the penalty shoot-out.

I've enjoyed watching Germany, Spain, Australia & Ghana most in this WC.
I really havn't enjoyed watching Italy, France or Portugal, & they've all made it to the quarters at least.

But then I'm a clueles noob so what do I know >.<

Allegedly Ronaldo has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, i wouldn't be suprised if he goes as a result now.

So has Robben though, but he needs to stay at Chelsea :(

Haha, and I can say the same shit about every other brit who is posting here.

Can't say anything else than you're behind your country though, but it's true what some says, that you always need someone to blame, and at this case it's C.Ronaldo.

Oh, And Cocopop/corranhorn, I've watched football all my life except the last year as I'm starting to find it boring (with Abramovich's resources).

Just because I don't agree with you on one thing must mean I'm totally clueless, right?

No, you are merely clueless as to what official rulings are on certain situations such as that which has been a big issue throughout the tournament and been let go.
Can only think of 1 occasion out of hundreds in this world cup where the ref actually turned around and booked the player insisting on the opponent getting a booking for something.

This has been a world cup of cheats and fakers. It has been one the worst ones I can actually remember in modern history of major tournaments for that. The game has developed badly lately but no surprise when you look at FIFA. So many dodgy dealings going on in that place and when you look at Blatter it just gets worse.

Well, a very poor team won today.

I am SO proud of the England team now, that Portugal had no way of breaking them down and for the whole of the period when England had 10 men they had the better chances to score.

As I said after the Portugal v Holland game, I think Portugal are a disgusting team who do anything to get a result (and show me footage of England players doing the 'give him a card' gesture, I dont think youll find it)....

Before this tournament I'd have wanted Germany to fail. After watching the cup to the point its at now, and the teams that are left, I want them to win, they deserve it for the way they have played and the way they have hosted.

World Cup Positives:

Ghana
Mexico
Argentina in group stages were majestic
Owen Hargreaves (finally given a chance in his proper position and showing the form he plays.
Aaron Lennon - hopefully he'll get more of a chance to play now.
The way it has been hosted.
Referees stopping all the bloody shirt grabbing in the box
The Fans
the organisation of the tournament

World Cup Negatives:

Portugal - played poorly and behaved abysmally ( and Im saying that from a football fan point of view, not an England one)
Holland - werent much better than Portugal
Referees not stopping the 'oh ive broken a nail send him off' brigade of poor disappointing "top" European players. Really need stamping out, it's ruining the game.
Refereeing on the whole has been disappointing.

I was spitting feathers at the end of the England - Portugal match, went and had a cool bath, sat and watch (an excellent episode of) Doctor Who with my kids and now I'm just immensely proud of the performance and immensely disappointed in the oppositions players behaviour.

phew typed a fair bit more than i intended to

Very disappointed, England played so well with 10 men - credit to them all (especially Hargreaves).

All the more reason to go out and get royally pissed up!

:drink:
