Referee was so so. A few decisions were dodgy here and there. The red card sending off can be debated till we're all blue in the face.

I think whats got alot of people pissed off is the fact that ronaldo went up to the ref and was asking for his club team-mate to be sent off - hardly sporting. And for thoes saying '' oh your team would do the same '' show me one piece of footage showing an england player doing that. Anyone watching the previous match portugal played in can make their own assuptions up.

The free kick had already been given, so the only thing he would be demanding is further action against the opponent. Of course the biased (self confesed bias btw so shouldnt been running match) ref went and gave it. This led to Ronaldo winking at the bench in a "haha, see what happens when you act like a baby and cry to mommy, i mean the ref"

granted some folks have made comments that could be defined as being a sore loser but what i find equally as sad are those that are poor winners. this can be seen in the bye bye england thread where folks that arent even from the winning side (some their team already went out and some werent in it all) feel the need to rub salt in the wounds and make jeering comments about england going out of the cup.takes quite a pathetic example of a human being as there is nothing lower then taking joy from the misery of others tbh.

THe ref wasnt "too" bad this game, just let himself get influenced by players a few times to many resulting in the red card. Look at what figo and the dutch guy did in last match and only picked up a yellow. And yet a little push being a red card in this game. Consistance in refs decisions have not been there the whole world cup, hell even the head of Fifa has turned round and said "The refereeing has been shit this tournament" and they sent half them home

You can always blame teh refs, at least they don't kick players who are on the ground in their balls.

They didnt play well but that doesnt mean someone should get sent off for such a crappy reason, at least not when the ref originally decided that the free kick was enough. This is where it is clear that you have a total lack of understanding about the game (and some of its rules)

If you play enough football at a highly competitive level you begin to be able to read the referee easily. Most of them have tells as to what will do next after giving a free kick. This referee clearly had shown no further action till other players went and got involved.

Heres a tip back to you. Study some matches and watch the referee (portugal vs holland isnt a good one though ). Over the course of the game you will clearly see the different reactions between a free kick, a yellow card and a red card. They almost always act in the same way for each.
