Referee was so so. A few decisions were dodgy here and there. The red card sending off can be debated till we're all blue in the face.

I think whats got alot of people pissed off is the fact that ronaldo went up to the ref and was asking for his club team-mate to be sent off - hardly sporting. And for thoes saying '' oh your team would do the same '' show me one piece of footage showing an england player doing that. Anyone watching the previous match portugal played in can make their own assuptions up.

Anyways, onward to euro 2008! :england: ( funny to see ppl who's team got knocked out already rubbing it in ppls faces here lol)
You seriously think ronaldo asked for a red card? That's bs. He asked for a free kick or maybe a yellow card. Then rooney with his temper acted like a 5y old that didn't get his cookie and yelled something stupid.

was abit suprised they set Gerrard to take that penalty it was so obviouse he was extreamly tiered and worn out from 120 mins of running up and down the pitch, and the same with lampard, i looked at my GF as they both steped up to the ball and said he'll miss, you could almost see it in thier eyes,

ronaldo didnt need to go over there, and you could tell it was what he wanted due to the wink after.

Cheating c*nts. Soon as I saw it was an Argie ref before kick off I said he'd send off an England player. As for Ronaldo, well all I can say is it would be 3 months inside for running on the pitch and twatting the f*cker - well worth it I reckon.

Think there isnt a court in this land who would try you, hell you might even get a reward :p

It was a shame England went out but it was only Svens fault only 4 strikers meant 4-5-1 esspically because he had no intention at playing one and did not fancy the other, as liniker said. I dont know why rooney was sent off tbh can only think he was for raising his hand but i though that was face level for a red.

And i agree with the people here Ronaldo and the other should get a yellow for that as its as bad as driving trying to fool the ref into booking another player is not needed.

So he was in the referees face saying '' please give me a free kick oh please pretty please!''

Come on, get out that tree your in, the clouds are blinding you.

He could've ran around the world 10 times and that wouldn't effect his penalty.

Kinda a sad WC IMO
All the teams who actually tried to play attractive football are out with the exception of Germany.

So what's left?
Germany v. The Last-Second Divers
The Dirty Players v. The Old-Age Pensioners or The struggling Favourites.

<hoping for a Germany v. Brasil final>

Owen Hargreaves did me proud today

He was one of the 3 lions, along with Ferdinand and Gerrard, who ran every inch of that pitch

Apart from the first game Hargreaves has been excellent throughout the tournament. One of the few England players who can go home knowing they played to their max.

The free kick had already been given, so the only thing he would be demanding is further action against the opponent. Of course the biased (self confesed bias btw so shouldnt been running match) ref went and gave it. This led to Ronaldo winking at the bench in a "haha, see what happens when you act like a baby and cry to mommy, i mean the ref"

Yes Im pissed off, lousy sending off (rooney shouldnt reacted like that but was a booking not straight red). Ref influnced too much. And shit managing decision pre tournment, and going out on penalties again to a rather dire team. Ah well, time to calm down play some CoV so i can beat the shit out of something without frustration and then settle down to watch brazil

Don't know what's worse, the shit team called England composed of exceptional players or all the faggots here being bad losers and blaming the ref or even Ronaldo.

You can be happy that England got so far.
granted some folks have made comments that could be defined as being a sore loser but what i find equally as sad are those that are poor winners. this can be seen in the bye bye england thread where folks that arent even from the winning side (some their team already went out and some werent in it all) feel the need to rub salt in the wounds and make jeering comments about england going out of the cup.takes quite a pathetic example of a human being as there is nothing lower then taking joy from the misery of others tbh.

manisch does have a point tho that england fans should try n be happy england got to the stage they did as im sure most england fans would concur that the team really didnt play to their true ability.if they had the outcome would likely have been different.
with any luck the time the next cup comes round becks will be replaced with lennon an rooney will have matured enough not to be so easily goaded.:pwill be interesting to see how walcotts career goes in that time too as he never got a chance to exhibit his talent

/agree
Not only have Germany played well, but they've also tried to win by playing good football, which isn't something you can even remotely claim for any of the other current semi-finalists.

It will be interesting to see what the referees report says.

Did he get the red card for the stamping, which I believe by the way, was merely him trying to get untangled.

OR pushing the player away.

If it was intentional stamp on the bollocks, then its a red card.

Anything else is a yellow.

Manisch, you proved on many occasions you can be a fucking clueless twat but really, dont need to continue proving it with your clueless comments. Bet the closest you came to playing any sort of competitive match (even just sunday league let alone professional level) is next to nothing.

Hae... Doesn't take me to be a rocket scientist to figure out that England didn't work as a team. Didn't see a single game in the tournament in that they transfered their personal skills on the team level.

All I see in this thread is hate against Ronaldo, the ref. I give you a hint: The team with more goals at the end wins. Even a "fucking clueless" gimp like me can realize that. Now get lost.

Corran said:
THe ref wasnt "too" bad this game, just let himself get influenced by players a few times to many resulting in the red card. Look at what figo and the dutch guy did in last match and only picked up a yellow. And yet a little push being a red card in this game. Consistance in refs decisions have not been there the whole world cup, hell even the head of Fifa has turned round and said "The refereeing has been shit this tournament" and they sent half them home

You can always blame teh refs, at least they don't kick players who are on the ground in their balls.

Watched replay, Rooney didnt do anything worthy of a red.

Then they show Ronaldo looking at the bench and winking

Sums up everything that's wrong with this World Cup. Cheats prosper. FIFA have f*cked up football by making it into a pansy non-contact sport where diving and hounding the ref is rewarded. Rooney made only 2 mistakes today. The first was not going down (holding his face ofc...) when he was fouled right before the sending off, and his second mistake was not twatting Ronaldo as he walked off the pitch. Hope he rectifies the second on the Man U training ground.

Just fucking realise that if he had kept his head cool, he wouldn't have gotten sent off.

They didnt play well but that doesnt mean someone should get sent off for such a crappy reason, at least not when the ref originally decided that the free kick was enough. This is where it is clear that you have a total lack of understanding about the game (and some of its rules)

If you play enough football at a highly competitive level you begin to be able to read the referee easily. Most of them have tells as to what will do next after giving a free kick. This referee clearly had shown no further action till other players went and got involved.

Heres a tip back to you. Study some matches and watch the referee (portugal vs holland isnt a good one though :p ). Over the course of the game you will clearly see the different reactions between a free kick, a yellow card and a red card. They almost always act in the same way for each.
