It's a common anti-cycling argument this and is bullshit. Many disabled people benefit from cycling, there is a huge range of adapted cycles open to them. From simple trikes, to cargo trikes, to hand cycles - all readily available and popular. I met a pretty old bloke a few years ago on a normal e-bike. He couldn't walk 100 yards as his hips were fucked, but he was doing a 20-mile-ride that day. I'm part of an advocacy group where one girl rides an e-cargo-trike and has limited use of her arm. She loves riding it about.

Not to mention that mobility scooters easily fit in a minimum spec cycleway. And next time you're walking down the road, have a look at how many cars are parked blocking the pavement. Ask yourself where's the outrage at making it extremely difficult for disabled folk to get around, especially blind people (dogs don't understand pavement parking or blocked dropped kerbs)?

And where's the outrage at the hundreds of thousands of completely illegal (Equality Act 2010) barriers that block disabled access to simple footpaths around urban areas, under the pretence that they stop motorcycles?

It's funny how people only get concerned about the disabled when it comes to restricting driving. Not everyone can cycle or walk, that's right. But let's not pretend that we shouldn't make it easier for everyone just because it'll inconvenience a few people who can't be arsed to walk 5 minutes to the shop.
I know an out layer who doesnt represent the majority of people but i will base my whole ethos on that.

How the fuck does that useless fat cunt do it? Does he need to come round everyone's house and steal the TV, cooker and washing machine before people see him for the disgusting entitled parasite cunt that he is?

If I was any younger I would be eying up fucking off the UK for somewhere else. Actually wondering if we could, do with the wife being a qualified teacher and myself with a near complete degree (with motivation I could pull myself over the line, it's been a piece of piss so far), NZ is looking kind of attractive atm. Age probably fucks us though, maybe ROI would suit!

You could go to NZ if you have sufficient investment money to start a business, and its not that high; $300k? (Been a while since I looked it up).

Problem with NZ is its just too fucking far away. I love the place but it is like moving to another planet if you have family back home.

Ireland is the obvious place to go. Loads of work and you watch Boris with pity for the British rather than anger that its happening to you.

I like Andy. Surely he'll go back to being an MP before long and take another run at the Labour leadership.

I reckon he might be quite a good leader, partly because I don't think he is tainted by the current and past sets of recent leaders and their associated posses although it probably also means when it comes to a vote he wouldn't float enough boats inside the party pool. In many ways they've proven to pick the wrong leaders time after time when it comes to reaching out to the wider public, I mean how did they end up with Ed over David Miliband.

I was a big fan of Ed. He was completely stitched up by the press. David is more in the Keir Starmer mold of wet-wipe in my opinion.

What I like about Andy Burnham is he is very "traditional Labour" in that he is Northern and working class. But he is also very well educated, very experienced in politics and a superb speaker. I feel like PMQs with Andy Burnham in the place would've been very very different over the last few months. He would take the focus of Labour back to its traditional heartlands straight away. I feel he is a real socialist as well, but also much less likely to do stupid Jeremy Corbyn things like says Hamas are his mates.

Speaking of which, can you recommend a decent pannier? I have a 90 litre rucksack that I use camping sometimes and would like to get that on an e-bike, I could shave off 20 litres or so.

Mostly for camping, what's weight distribution like? It would be tent, food, water, clothing etc. Ive found a few sites I want to wild camp fairly locally that I could access by bike and also further afield with a bike rack on the car.

Don't cheap out on panniers, spend a lot, it's worth it. Spend as much as you can afford on a proper rack, like Tortec or similar. Check this guy out, he sells pretty much everything for touring:

But be warned that panniers make manhandling a bike quite difficult as the weight distribution is all over the place. Consider trailers too. Burley do some great trailers, they have the advantage that you can unhitch them in seconds (a fully loaded bike can be a nuisance if you get a puncture).

You know you are talking to someone with a disabled parking badge and chronic back painand sciatica which wouldnt allow me to walk with out pain. Let alone cycle?

No I didn't know that and I'm sorry for any offence, but as you well know there are many forms of disability and not all of them prevent people moving around without cars. And I'm sure you're aware that there are many disabled people whose disability actually prevents them driving, but who can still consider active travel - if only it were enabled in their neighbourhood, by eliminating all the wasteful short car trips and ratruns.

I doubt roads or cars are going to disappear around the majority of Devon any time soon.

Oh my god.

I just skimmed down the page and got an aneurysm, that's hilarious. Well it would be if it wasn't people actually being dead serious about that nonsense.

Your daily Boris dodgy deal.

Will it make any difference? Nope.

Hehe, I currently work for the David Ross Trust - I could let you know all the 'competitive' stuff that they've got recently, even though they're a pretty shitty trust :D

How is it racist? It's a stupid idea, but I can't see how it is racist.

It obviously targets the young and the poorer.

I think as far as race goes people of colour are less likely to hold current driving licences and passports. Particularly older Asian women. (Citation needed.)
