Thats not entirely true. People in the back seat can fly into the people sitting in the front seat and kill them.

People can also fly through the windscreen and hit sombody else thereby injuring/killing them.

Sometimes you need laws because people are too stupid to look after themselves.

Same with helmets on bikes etc.

Actually why stop there?

I think we should ban all Health and Safety Regulations. If some pillock who works in food production wants to stick his head in a mixer then fuck him - let him do it!

Sweet baby Jesus...

That's not quite true to those sitting in the back of a car, or children. The law forces you to wear a seatbelt in case you're really thick, and think you're invincible.

Sorry if this was a few posts back, but i feel the need to reply to what cdr said.
The whole point of my first post, as Will has pointed out, was to show that no matter how harmless you think speeding on an empty motorway is, there are always bad things that can happen. I called the people who break the speed limit and imho drive dangerously twats, because these are the type of people that cause serious accidents and harm innocent people.
I'll put this in nice big letters so you can understand cdr...I DO NOT AGREE WITH SPEEDING, I NEVER SAID I DID, GET OVER IT FFS!.
For the record, not that is actually anyones business but his own, my dad got 3points on his licence for the accident, the judge decided the fact that i nearly died was more than enough punishment for him.
Hope this clears up any probs cdr has.

That should be the responsibility of the people in the front seats. If they are happy to take that chance then i dont care.

Are you sure about this? Ive never heard of this happening.

Absolutley not. Laws and the government should be here to protect people from other people. Not themselves.

I thought doing 100+ meant an automatic ban?

"It is the year 1992. Cars, freeways and highways no longer exist. The aeroplane is no longer a means of transport but a pleasure ride to see the world from the air.

No, the premier means of transport is the Personal Transporter Beam. In the future every man woman and child will enjoy the luxury of owning a small portable transportation device that will deconstruct their body and reconstruct it in the area of their choice!

This might sound like crazy science fiction but it is the logical extension of current research by our government and leading scientists."

As long as they don't need fking seatbelts tho eh?

I'm about to fk off home from work but

a) I can't even fathom how you think what you do

b) much less need it explained

c) I presume you don't have kids. Would you seriously not make them wear seatbelts and not object to parents that didn't?

Btw full marks for saying what you really think. I'm honestly not flaming you I just don't get your POV at all :)

I dont have kids. But if i did i would make them wear seatbelts. I would object to parents who didnt. Kids are slightly different, they cant be expexted to understand the dangers involved.
I always wear my seatbelt and allways make sure any passengers in my car do. But i wear it because i think its a good idea, not because the government says i should.

What im saying is that if someone(an adult) chooses not to wear a seatbelt and that decision will harm nobody but himself. Then why should he be punished for it?

I really do belive that if people want to harm or do things that could possibly harm themselves(and nobody else) then what right does anyone have to tell them they shouldnt be doing it?

Classic Tory point of view, as opposed to the more left wing idea of the state looking after people.

I'm a leftie, btw.

WARNING: Sarcasm

I actually tried driving without a seatbelt when I was pissed once, and it was pretty hard keeping in a straight line above 80mph let me tell you, especially with the added anxiety of driving without insurance.

Thats twice youve called me a Tory Will.
But i really have no idea where my views leave me. They tend to differ quite a lot on different subjects.

From what I can make out, you are a right-wing liberal, which means you believe in a weak government when it comes to business and individual rights, but tough on crime.

Political compass should give you more of an idea of what I mean.

I've just done the test on that political compass site.

Results :

Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: -4.50
Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.10

Actually put me in the same area as Mandela and Gandhi which has just made my gf piss herself laughing...

The government does not keep me alive, i do that myself.

Anyway, ive just done the the political compass test and it gave me:

Economic Left/Right: 1.38
Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.77

Which is where i would probably have put myself and seems to be somewhere near what Will said. But maybe not as right as you thought Will?
I seem to be closer to The Dalai Lama than anyone else.

I tend to think more on a classic right/left divide, which is why that site is handy. It seems about correct, though I'd have thrown you more off to the right.;)

Some things to catch up :-

I think that it's in December that it becomes an offence to sit in the drivers seat of a car with a mobile phone in your hand. I'll check that for you tomorrow and report back if I remember.

Over 100 mph is an automatic ban under most circumstances, but that might be a ban for as little as 7 days.

Will knows my political persuasions, and I'd ask him not to print them until after the next election, for fear of prejudicing the electorate.
