Problem is you need Direct-x first b4 they think of porting it.
dunno if doac is running in openGL.

so you got stuck to VMware or winx

don't think it will be any better exept youre pc does not crash but the program.

But should be great tho if they make a decent porting.

Its consistently had quite a bit of interest from the paying WineX subscribers (Ive been 1 of them since WineX launched), but doesnt seem to have had any time spent specifically on it so far.

Its coming along (due to general DirectX fixes) but in the current polls (WineX subscribers only) its ranked 14th of 25 in what game(s) subscribers would like to see Transgaming work on.

Shame really, DAoC is the only reason Windows is installed on this PC.

It does if you bypass the patcher.

Start DAoC by calling game.dll directly with the correct arguments:

game.dll <serveraddress:port> <username> <password>

But even doing that it doesnt work very well at all, so its not really worth it ;)

Anyway, i thought id help a lil here with a quick trip to babelfish:

Here of Screens of daoc under linux, good Ca rows a EP (bcp mm per moment) when that the plays is in world Window (800x600 on the screens). In mode full screen plays and fluid

Feels this thread turning into a Winblows VS Linux discussion.

Let us compare shall we ?

Linux = free, windows = $$$$
Linux = stable, windows = ! stable
Linux = loads of free goodies, windows = $$$$
Linux = ownz for developers, loads of compilers, editors, GUI's, standard included in your OS.
Linux = Security much better then windows, windows has more bugs and security fixes (for example no really linux virusses known)
Linux = open source, Used in banks and such, so they can check the source so no backdoors are available (winblows has backdoors imo)

Windows = Gaming, linux :/ (although transgaming tries to fix it)
Windows = easy Hardware config and software config (in Linux a bit harder)

If i can run daoc in linux, bye bye windows (allthough i need winblows for my school projects in Visual .NET) :/ => NERF

My 2 cents...

Listen oh bum chum to Bill Gates, youre experience with using an OS for anything other than gaming must be rather limited. Stick to the goats if I was you, they wont shaft you back then offer you an upgrade for money like Bill does.

As bometal has said, against ANY MS operating system, its more secure (thanx UNIX), its more stable (thanx UNIX), its less threatened by virus makers because a) its not frikken Microshat and b) because you dont have to collect a fixing patch every 30 seconds c) its free d) its free e) its developed by the same ppl who probably make the virii that target MS f) its free and g) its got all the software you need for a business without having to pay / download / give 4 pints of blood to MS for.

Pop quiz for you, why wont Billy Boy and his bum chams release the MS source code? Why does my firewall constantly get hit by MS prducts trying to connect to home? Why wont Billy get his act together and put an operating system together and make sure it works before releasing it? why was Winblows 98 not released till 99?

Greenfingers, try running a mail system that virus scans and spamfilters about 350.000 mails per day and has a five 9 uptime (eg mail not working for less then 5.3 minutes/year or thus running 99.999% of the time ) on about € 7000 of hardware and software using a windows solution.

Uptime != windows != heavy system load :p

Death to M$ (except for games tho :p )

;)

You have to keep the "home user" point of view, since we're talking games here

>> Linux = free, windows = $$$$

How many "home" users have a legit copy of windows?

>> Linux = stable, windows = ! stable

Do you really care about weeks and weeks of uptime? not like you use your windows as a server on which an entire company relies? as for random crashes osv, a nicely configged windows box (2k and +, not talking 9x rubbish) runs fine (eg install shareware , uninstall, rince repeat, overwrite system files every time...)

>> Linux = loads of free goodies, windows = $$$$

See the first point.
There's tons of free software about for windows as well, which in most cases is better then their commercial counterparts ( surf around a bit on sourceforge) . There are quite some commercial packages for linux as well, and guess what they're not free

>>Linux = ownz for developers, loads of compilers, editors, GUI's,
>>standard included in your OS.

Again, tons of available, very nice freeware for developers for windows as well ( there's even a vi port for windows for the hardcore vi users :p)

>>Linux = Security much better then windows, windows has
>>more bugs and security fixes (for example no really linux
>>virusses known)

agree

>>Linux = open source, Used in banks and such, so they can
>>check the source so no backdoors are available (winblows has
>>backdoors imo)

The financial sector still relies on mainframe and midrange machines .

Again, you're talking about systems where reliability is a major point rather then a fancy graphical interface

>>Windows = Gaming, linux :/ (although transgaming tries to fix
>>it)

apt-get install nethack !

<snippety snip>

Amen brother, however if this Linux transition for gaming gets any better than a handful of games IMO its curtains for Billy "forever a virgin" Gates and his unfeasable large wallet.

Well..............i can dream cant i

http://www.cert.org/advisories/ Fairly even spread across all sorts of O/S's and software. If more holes are found in windows, most likely because more people are looking.

Valid Point, but Open Source has its downsides also.

IMO: Windows is a desktop O/S, Linux is a server O/S.

Windows = User Friendly, Linux is not
Windows = Polished, Linux (X) is not (yet)
Windows (GU) = Fast, Linux (X) = sluggish

I have and do use both as well other unixes.
