Either banning needs to be totally open and we get informed of who gets banned and full reason why (quoting offending remarks maybe? to show what's going on?) Or the reasons, in full, need to go to the offender only and they can tell who they like for themselves.

Reasonless information of who's been banned is only screaming for reaction...

this place isn't a democracy Ben. in the end it's between the admin and whoever has done whatever. no user has a scrap of a 'need to know' in there anywhere. admins can, for all intents and purposes, do as they please.

still, imho, banning Wij for letting (banned) Nibbler edit his posts is a bit iffy. Nibbler's moderatory powers should have been scrapped at the time of banning...but then what do I know?

Sure. No one has a born right to know why someone gets banned, but if we are going to get told about it at all, it's in BW interests to explain a little why, help people get into the new T&C and encourage the strength of the compliant community.

I admin my own messageboard. "Doing as you please" is a road to disaster, even on the smallest of boards. You have to have respect and understanding. That is what I mean, not democracy.

i am aware of that shocko but that seems to be the reason for the banning unless anything else happened shortly before or after that

oho, but I'm not saying one _should do as one pleases, just that the average admin's actions don't always have to be made clear to every and all users. the fact that it is sometimes a good idea to do so I have not touched apon, even though I agree.

I guess that everyone is a bit flustered atm, with the transition to the new T&C not going as smoothly as one would hope, and that people are fitting into the new model as well as they can (or not). when things calm down in a few days we should review the situation.

perhaps a web page asking you to agree to terms and conditions before you can login to the forums might be an idea.

its a valid point kameleon but being honest how many times have you simply clicked a "Yes I have read and understood the Terms and Conditions" button on a webpage or whilst installing software without actually doing so, I for one have.

One idea (however feasible) might be to send a Private Message to all new registerees and current users stating the terms and conditions fully. only once they have read (and maybe replied to this) are they allowed to browse and post on the forums although i'm not sure if all this is possible on vBulletin

Kameleon - When you signup to BarrysWorld you agree to the T&C's there, which includes a whole section on behaviour. You might not read it when you signup because most people do not however it is there and does cover this area.

Well going on your forum name you logged in and migrated your account at some point in the last 8 months or so.

That said no matter what the T&C's are people will break them, then cry about it when they get pulled up for their actions. The fact there has been this quite lively debate over the banning / suspension of a relatively small number of people - i'd be surprised if we are in double figures in terms of people who have been banned, including Dimebag and a couple of others who few would argue didn't deserve it - is a good thing as it hopefully focuses attention on the fact we are "moderating" these forums.

There seems to be a pattern emerging here. Last week the paying subscribers where promised an iminent surprise ( or whatever you want to call it)......still waiting (but not holding breath)

Then suddenly there is a crackdown on post content (welcome to an extent imo). This has started with the banning of Dimebag (again a very welcome decision in imo), next Perplex and .cage are banned. Then suddenly the next day Perplex is back posting...(still trying to understsnd the reasoning for that)

Then people start getting banned in irc for saying cockbadger?(over the top imo, but since I wasnt there I dont know the full story)

So the way I look at it is the suits want to clear out the 'filth' before they promote the website to some kids, so that mums and dads say...."Hey this is a safe place to be for my kids ....I think we will let little Tommy subscribe". That way Game makes a bit more money.

Fine...then in another 4-5 years time the little Tommys become the Wijs, Wazzers and Dimebags of the forum...and so the process starts over again, whenever some other company buys Game...and so on and so on.......

At the end of the day its all about generating money for GAME . Those intent on offensive postings do absolutely nothing for the forum to promote sales of games purchased through GAME. They do however make the forum a community, which is great or the average forum users who is not that interested in games, (and even if they were theyd probably warez them anyway), but come for a bit of social entertainment.

Those days are gone and this forum is becoming another Wireplay/Jolt forum whose sole pupose is ultimately a marketing tool for the generation of more income for the company.

So remember, despite all the whinging that goes on about how such and such is hard done by remember, unless they subscribe and or buy games through GAME they are absolutely of no worth to the forum.

Us older, more mature people are the ones who are/were going to pay for BW subsciption year after year, I intended to again, its a great service and value for money, I aren't paying for a service that bans fellow clan members for absolutely no reason though.
