Hospitals are always rammed this time of year.
I took a family member to hospital last week, shes got a lump...needs removing, no chemo needed.
Op booked for next Friday, waited 4 days for test results.

We are one of the highest covid rates in the country...the hospitals are cruising.

The reason people are still being seen is because doctors and nurses are working themselves to death to prevent more people dying.
Many of the medical staff usually treat 1, I repeat 1, intensive care patient a day. Now they are treating 4 or 5 a day.

I don't think you understand how it works.

If it's an emergency, IE a doctor determines that type of cancer is going to spread immediately then they will still operate more or less immediately.

However if a doctor determines that a cancer won't spread drastically over a longer period of time then they will not operate and will delay it for as long as possible, but due to pressures on the NHS the amount of time they're delaying the operations is getting dangerous.

I do appreciate that the media goes on about how every winter the NHS is on its knees, but surely you can appreciate that this is not a normal winter.

I know an NHS nurse, and she puts all my work stress very much into perspective, ignoring all the blame the Tories this, blame people ignoring rules that, the NHS frontline staff are doing an amazing, near impossible job at the moment and I hope they all know how grateful we are.

On this. The reporting is strangely lacking in statements of fact.

Israeli "covid tsar" says single vaccine rollout (of which Israel's done quite a lot) is less effective than hoped and politicians are falling over themselves to say he's been 'taken out of context' and therefore 'innacurate'.

But it's hard to take that out of context and the best way to retract that statement is with facts and figures - we expected X% and got Y%. But they're not forthcoming.

Instead - this sort of opinion stuff is forthcoming:

any policy changes should await more robust data. If, for example, the efficacy after one dose was 33% but the efficacy after two doses was 60%, the UK policy would still be justified

Basically, it all adds up to "we don't know" and the UK would like it's own data before we make any policy changes (the policy change being "admit mistake, start giving second vaccines asap, cause massive uproar that would probably make you unelectable - as you took the gamble to go rollout single-shot when the manufacturers themselves said 'we have no data for that'..".

I doubt we'll see the hard facts and figures - Israel has them currently, otherwise their "corona tsar" wouldn't be saying anything.

The rest of the hospital may well be empty. But he's too dumb to understand that.
