Not wishing to dwell on brexit but this wasnt the special EU system the brits failed to sign up to or something during the exit phase?

Big feckin opps by somebody, seems that Big pharmas AND Tech companies don't like being told how to do business.

I blame my wife ^^ she told me :)

Many of these for profit hospitals also cater to wealthy overseas customers, travel issues might be causing a downturn in business too ^^

In April (i think) last year didnt the NHS effectively give the private sector a huge bailout?, in exchange they got some 7k beds ? All NHS specialist surgeons medical pros were told to drop their private commitments to help deal with the crisis.

I presume if they are still operating then this arrangement must have come to an end?

Many of her colleague NHS nurses moonlight in private hospitals doing night shifts during weekends, when some of the week day only day surgery units operate. She is not aware of any of her colleagues working there currently. Maybe thats because the number of cases have dramatically reduced and the work they do is being picked up by local staff.

I'll dig further, but I know it was a touchy subject as several of the surgeons were not redeployed into the local hospitals, this could mean they are still raking in the cash doing private work.

Just found this -

Great post - you have perfectly described the issue. We're in a national health crisis where we need all the health capacity we can get, and the NHS Management are more worried that someone might make a quid or two out of it. They block booked Private capacity back in March for that very purposes, then cancelled in in July and have gone back to ad hoc - and haven't even considered maybe some of the spare staff the Private providers have could help out with the massive staff shortages they are seeing.

However when Serco and Crapita turn up with some services the NHS need and the aforementioned parasites might make some money - crack on lads!

Whoopsie, certainly not helpful when it comes to convincing people to have vaccinations.

And we approved it significantly earlier than the EU, which still hasnt approved it for use yet. This is quite typical of the EU, they missed the boat, got wrapped up in bureaucracy tried to delay the vaccine rollout to show a united front and made a right hash of it. Now its a case of bat and ball and going home.

I voted remain, but after political stunts like this and others I'm starting to have a rethink.

I'm sure if the political dick waving turned nasty and they did actually block (Something that only Jeremy Vine and his listeners seem to think has happened already). then I would be somewhat surprised if we didnt do a tit for tat and block the exports of the Oxford/Astrazenica one to the EU.

The EU head office is looking a tad daft right now, late to the party seems to be a bit of an understatement.

This is aside from the fact Germany ignored the EU and went out to procure its own vaccines for Germany only deal off their own backs.

Several EU countries tried to secure the AZ vaccine early last year but the EU took central control of it and spent 2 months fucking about. They have dropped the ball big fucking time and I feel for the people not getting the vaccine quick enough.

If the UK wanted to play tit for tat they can simply revoke the EU licence to manufacture the AZ vaccine. AZ have stated that it is an EU supply issue to their EU partner lab.

My understanding is that the UK vaccines are made in 2 UK plants and then bottled in a 3rd plant.

The Pfizers one comes from Belgium I think. I worked at Pfizers in Sandwich for 3 months when used to work for GE, quite an impressive and massive place, but seemingly nothing to do with the vaccines.

I can understand delays, even in the IT world the paperwork required to do anything there and I mean anything was nightmarish, change or repair a network point and reams of paperwork/change control to fill out and get approved, let alone what they must have to do for drug changes etc, back then it was just before Viagra was let loose on the world, FDA approval meant that if somebody farted it had to be documented!!.

Correct, Pfizer comes from a plant in Belgium. If the EU stops exports it will only affect the Pfizer vaccine but we may be able to secure deliveries from the US. The UK AZ vaccine is produced solely in the UK, only the initial batch was made in the EU and that was well short of the initial number of doses to be delivered.

What people are not seeing is that the EU AZ vaccine has been outsourced to a plant in the EU and they are experiencing supply issues which the UK had last year but have a 3-4 month headstart due to placing confirmed orders and not fucking about like the EU Commission did when it took overall control.

This is purely a redirection due to the EU's major fuckup on securing vaccines. Nothing more.

Thing is, if things have too much red tape to fix/deploy things you simply remove them and make it more streamline.

The AZ one is made just down the road from me, in fact my nephew's girlfriend is working at the plant where they make it. There's another factory somewhere else, then all off to Wrexham for bottling.

Then we take a big load of it to Dover, point to the French and say ner ner ner ner ner ner :)

20,000 deaths would be a success.

So does this mean BoJo is going to resign?

I mean - if you look at deaths per million population out of these 157 countries the UK comes third.

THIRD.

German bombing of the UK during WW2 didn't kill this many people. The fucker should (potentially literally) fall on his sword.
You see whitty explaining it?

Whitty isn't responsible for Tory dithering. Or Tory special PPE deals with Eton mates, PPE that ends up in landfill...shame we can't put the Tories in landfill. The Tories started this whole thing by shipping out a load of contracts to companies that previously did marketing or some bollocks, because they were besties in dorm 4...mostly because they didn't understand the magnitude of this virus, nor did they really care.

'Following the science' a month behind.

Literally the only thing they have got right is scatter gunning money at every potential vaccine going and that could well have blown up in their face too, a massive gamble that just so happened to pay off.

Honestly, fuck the Tories and everyone that votes for them in the next GE.

It's a gigantic shit show, by way of the EU being absolute control freaks, nothing more. Plenty of countries were in the advanced stage of getting it all set up but the EU fucked them off to do a combined effort, turns out, just like socialism, everyone gets dry fucked.

It's worth noting that this is not the UK threatening the EU (and others) with pulling their critical vaccine supply, it is the EU doing it because they are a slow moving, bureaucratic fuck up that should have had the supply chain details ironed out months ago.

I am not sure anyone is saying haha we won and all that shit but why should countries that did get on the ball early suffer for EU pissing about?

Heads need to roll in the EU hierarchy, I'm sure that will happen at the next election...

Was wondering if our local Tory apologist would hit me with a facepalm and then whitter some irrelevancies.

Johnson said he takes "full responsibility" - so that means there must be some consequences.

He has to resign, or once again his words are meaningless.

Third worst performance in the world. And we're paying for this incompetence with the lives of our loved ones.

Not a big fav of his, but MUCH less a fan of the alternative at the time having said that, my local MP is and has been a fucktard for many years so I dont do party voting these days, in fact the choices were so shit last time out I couldnt bring myself to vote at all. A first for me.

As for the deaths, take most of those overseas with a pinch of salt, I would suggest the UK ones are some of the most accurate figures out there, naturally it makes them look terrible and they are, Some places in the EU do not report care home deaths over the age of 80 (I think or perhaps 85) full stop...so most will never appear as covid deaths at all.

I for the sake of argument Starmer was in control he wouldnt resign either, despite ploughing billions into the NHS (assuming he did what they claim to have wanted to do), the situation really wouldn't have been that much different I suggest, sure there would be less nepotism/cronyism, that would be replaced with ineptitude/fuctardiness.

But people like Ferguson were responsible, Ferguson lost credibility due to his "the rules dont apply to me" and "I can't code for shit modelling", thats and the above were responsible for the fucks ups. Seems the tax payer...my bad, TV license payer still seems to be paying that twat.

I do question what would of been said by people if this was action the UK was taking over others, in my mind it seems very similar to the fact if we did something like the CAI deal with China some people would spaz out.

100,000 dead. Third worst record on the planet.

Tell me - what would it take for you to condemn what can be objectively measured as a failure of world-topping proportions?

They're real people @Moriath. Not just figures in the news. Brothers, sisters, mothers, sons.

Dead, because of Tory incompetence.
