So Hancock is doing the briefing, poor effort from BJ tbh. Doesn't want to answer hard questions.

Federal states operating at its finest.

No...Orange fuckwit operating at its finest.

There are lots of ways to run a Federation, and the tension in the US has always been between too much control at the Federal level, and not enough; the argument being "Federal=Big Government=Incompetent and probably Socialism", which is of course, bollocks.

In this particular case Trump is conveniently missing the fact that most of those "failing Democratic states" subsidise the the Republican states on an ongoing basis through their federal tax revenues. Almost everywhere on Earth, rural (poorer) parts are subsidised by urbanised (richer) parts, which expresses itself in the US as both coasts (Democrat) versus the Middle (Republican) but just because the US happens to be a Federal state doesn't mean that's the reason for it; in Italy its rich north v. poor south, in Ireland its Dublin v everywhere else, in the UK its city v. shires, and in the EU its rich industrial north v. poor rural south and east.

I wish he'd drive past a grassy knoll.
I think we all do but federal unions are just so great....

I know for a fact that if I am off work for a few weeks I decline all meetings when I return to work. Done it my entire life. Does not mean I am ready to host a meeting on my first day back.

No it shows what can happen if you throw too much power at a central organization. I know about the Italy divide, my Dad comes from the south.

Trump is desperately trying to stoke up partisan divides because he has an election coming and he knows he's made a giant lash of this pandemic response. Any opportunity he gets to whine about Democrats, he grabs with both hands. That situation has nothing to do with centralised power.

Trump can happen in the EU. That is my point.

Not at all. The US setup is actually very rare (combined Executive and Head of State), and has nothing to do with a federal model per se.

The reason the US can get a Trump is the Electoral College system that is deliberately setup to upweight low population states over high population states (in other words, not everyone's vote has equal importance), but it's not the result of a federal system.

In a lot of ways you can argue the Federal model actually limits Trump's abilities to do much damage; he's tried to mandate various things through executive orders; bypassing Congress (like rollbacks on emissions laws) and the States have simply ignored him

My opinion, fucking scandalous.

Its just a snapshot obviously, but considering we are so densely populated, were not doing badly.

The Germans are doing superb, theyd shoot their own kids if the authorities gave the order.

So @Embattle you didn't watch it did you? Otherwise you wouldn't facepalm. If you did watch it and still facepalm then you should look at yourself.

Facepalm from @Embattle for you there @~Yuckfou~ for pointing out this:

the government subsequently ignored a warning from its own advisers to buy missing equipment...The consequence of not planning; not ordering kit; not having stockpiles is that we are sending into the front line doctors, nurses, other health workers and social care workers without the equipment to keep them safe,

Although I suspect the reason why you aren't getting anything other than facepalm-engagement is that people really don't want to hold the government to account for clear negligence.

Edit: Ah you noticed Embattles "debating" tactic too.

Cowardly isn't it :)

Roll on the facepalms.

Here is a Hint...Boris was elected when exactly?

Good luck in using that tactic, like you and others it is boring and predictable on political subjects.

My "Boris Glasses" phrase refers to blind Tory supporters. Serious question, do you think the government can be trusted after this?

The recatorisation of CV so the NHS needed less PPE was on the Boris watch.

My reply didn't work for some reason.
They recatagorised CV while Boris was PM so that the NHS needed less safe PPE. Reasonable?

Isn't it cute...you think you can trust a government of any colour, blind Tory hater.

I wouldn't vote at all if I picked on trust alone.
