This is why footballers shouldn't be role models.

"The only disease we're fighting right now is racism" - says Raheem Sterling.

Yeah. That and the one that's killed four hundred thousand people worldwide to date.

I've heard protesters on the radio, on TV and in the print media state similar things so he isn't the only one and it is rather annoying as this virus takes a large toll on the BAME community.

Thank fuck that we don't have massive worldwide protests consisting of large numbers from the BAME community going on at the moment to kickstart a second wave and overwhelm heatlhcare.

It's mad to think that one cop killing one man could single-handedly set back the effort to get the virus under control in at least 2 of the (already) worst-affected countries.

It's genuinely blowing my mind how incredibly stupid humans can be sometimes.

To be expected tbh.

I know but when you think about it... imagine what happens when an even more deadly virus comes around? those protesters are living proof we'd just be fucked as a species.

Coronavirus is the least of our worries tbh.

I saw his post this morning and was going to call him on his bullshit but figured I'd leave it until I got home, so ta @caLLous :)

Suffice to say he thinks climate change isn't real, or if it is it isn't a problem or man made, smoking doesn't kill you, coronavirus isn't really a problem and the deaths that have happened are going to be dwarfed by suicides (or something).

If there's the wrong side to come down on something you can pretty much bet @Bodhi'll be there - sniping from the sidelines at any suggestion that the world could be a better place if we did things differently.

Not sure when I said Climate Change doesn't exist (Ice Ages, duh) or that smoking doesn't kill (it does, but I am happy with the risks involved), but if that makes you feel happy go for it!

Lockdowns in Europe saved 'millions of lives'

Multiple studies saying that lockdowns save lives. Fancy that.
Indesputably, despite what @Bodhi thinks.

However, I'm with @Bodhi in that the consequences of lockdown aren't trivial (but I don't give a stuff about economic) - so we need a vaccine double quick.

We might be "near the beginning" of the pandemic but for how long are people going to obey lockdowns?

Not for a coronavirus vaccine and that is how American healthcare works :(
The UK is at the forefront of publically funded protectionism. I've moaned about it a few times before.

Imperial college, they are just the marketing arm of rich philanthropists.
A complete guess.

It also states that the UK has so far funded £500m in Cornovirus research. It's very misleading as there was probably $100m's spent in the initial development of these drugs. But saying that though they could be sold with a vastly smaller profit margin. I know big pharma do make a shed load of money from drugs at over inflated prices. But the full cost and research and development should also be known otherwise it's yet another knee jerk reaction to misleading headlines.

I can't read how they get to the $5 production cost as it's a paywall.

Probably worth reading the paper behind it, looking at when it was submitted to Nature (30th March), looking at what it's based on (Imperial's discredited model), the countries it includes (Sweden and their famous lockdown).

Then printing it out and using it to wipe your bottom.

It's absolute guff, putting it mildly.
