How do you stop it looking crap, though? The cartoonyness and ultra-bright colours, surely those are wrong, or is that just more tweaking?

Dude the game is based on superheroes, if you don't get why the cartoon feel is there then maybe you shouldn't be playing.

Some reviews for the game, they have been allowed to comment under current NDA:

Champions Online: Preview Weekend | MMORPG Games & MMO News - MMOCrunch
and
Massively Hands-on: Creating superheroes in Champions Online - Massively

Must say I'm really looking forward to this game now, be interesting to see the different travelling powers.

The game is fantastic mate it really is as soon as this one comes out Conan will be put away for a long time.

Also the state that the game is in just 2 months before launch is also great.

From this Wednesday the servers are up pretty much all day so i can't wait to put some time in.

Hopefully this means STO won't suck if they are doing a good job with CO :)

in some games more then others, yes.

but in games like this that doesent have any pure class structures, where theres little to no limitations in what you can and cant purchase when it comes to skills. then you will get some pretty insanely overpowered builds going on.

last weeks pvp session i accidentally stumbeled upon a build that made me virtually unkillable while still hitting my enemies like a fucking freighter. :)

I believe the only hold up is really Microsoft and there testing/approval stage. Someone here at work said that you can only submit the same game (not code) 2-3 times for approval before it cannot be put forward again, so it forces people to get it right :)

I've been playing the game with the 360 pad alot lately while it isn't easier then using m/kb it certainly isn't unplayable.

I can't see why MS/Cryptic don't release a kb/mouse for these games and only let you use them with certain games.

:iagree:

I'm sure its fine, but alas for release Microshaft always hold these things up.

Not tried, but could you not plug in a USB Keyboard to the 360? or is it something you have to get a 360 KB to work?

USB keyboard is fine it works, FFXI on the 360 uses keyboards quite well, hell even the official snap on keyboard for the 360 works on FFXI.

Obviously for chat purposes they will have to let you use a keyboard for the 360 when it releases but i just hope you can do more with it besides chat.

We wanted our fans to hear this from us first... We’re changing our Champions Online launch date from July 14th to September 1st of this year.

Why? Here’s what our own Bill Roper, Design Director and Executive Producer on Champions Online, had to say about it:

“It is critically important for an MMO to be as good as it possibly can be at launch. Through our constant dialogue with our vocal and supportive community of beta testers, we quickly realized that in order to implement certain features that we all considered important the development of Champions Online would require more time. So that's what we're going to give it. Cryptic has a proven track record of releasing solid games and we want to maintain that with Champions Online.”

What does this mean for you? Simply, more beta play time right now and a better, more polished game at launch.

Champions Online New Release Date | Champions Online Official Site

Well hopefully more time to get in the beta for me :)

But more polish can only be a good thing...

I made a class in City of Heroes which had 3-4 robot pets. I forget the class name but it was a great class to play. When I got about level 20 I did some pvp with my friend. We found as soon as you got someone on low health, they just flew away :( As you can imagine, with pets who have shit pathing, trying to catch/attack someone who can fly was impossible!

Can anyone who's played this game explain how the pvp works with all these flying abilities?

youtube said:
You won't start with it, but several travel abilities have been confirmed. Flight, Teleportation, Tunneling (burrowing underground), Super-Jump, Web-slinging or Grapling gun, Super agility (running up buildings, jumping from one building to the next ect.), Ice Sliding, Fire Flying (human torch styler), and so forth. I assume you will be able to get these powers after you hit level 5 or something like that,

depends what AT's you picked. thugs/poison were the bomb for pvp.

chain KD's, tons of debuffs and with the shared damage between the MM and the pets, it took forever to kill the MM itself.

get powers with -fly components in them to keep them flying off, or roll a class that has such a immense DPS that they dont have the time to fly off, villains stealth class (forgot the name) is good for that, their from stealth attack can one shot squishys..

or team up with a CC'er and chain hold whoever u attack :)

but either way, the pvp in CoX is pretty shit in general, so i really wouldn't sub to that game for the pvp. even WoW has better pvp then CoX.

alternatively you could wait for CO to release, their pvp is also alot better compared to CoX.

Erm...It kinda sounds like you think I am either playing, or going to subscribe to CoX? I played that a few years back and the flying issue was why I quit (iirc its in the CoX section of the forum).

Because Champions Online has flying in (plus made from the same people?), I wanted to know if people could just fly away like cnuts :(

well, yes and no, you can fly away in CO aswell but the incombat speed decrease is much longer and applies to ALL speed boosting effects.

so someone with superspeed can't just bolt off if things go bad.

but as i havent had any real expenience with the pvp in CO i cant really say much more then that.

the pvp test didnt last long enough other then to form a general thought about them. and atm its just "better then CoX" :)

and as far as i understood it the only pvp in CO will be in battleground/scenarios. as outside there isnt any "good vs evil".

and the pvp maps arent big enough to fly away anywhere in. its usually indoors in cramped rooms/hallways with 1 team assaulting and the other defending.

hopefully they add more maps later.

/edit: sorry about thinking you meant CoX, its what you started the post with and it missled me :p

Hehe no worries mate, I thought because you helped me when I first started CoX a few years back, you'd remember...but that's asking alot of anyone!

Hopefully the game will be a success :)
