I still don't rate VDS, not seen him do much this season at all.

He been very good, sure not needed to make a million dramatic saves but he has made high quality saves and made things look easy simply because he hasnt made mistakes (until last few games) and his position etc been spot on. He kept everything looking simple and as people dont see him diving around to recover poor positioning they dont see him as "doing much worthy of praise".

Just look at the League cup final... Foster got man of the match after making 2 very good saves basically(was decided before penalties). This was because people only really rate a keeper by the saves they make which look dramatic.

The what?

And you're talking shit, not every single player in the world peaks at 28, that's just a completely mental assumption. Some do, no doubt, but not everyone, not even the majority of players i'd say.

28 is generally when the best players do peak, do I need to list them for you? Look at the best players of the last 20 years, 80%+ of them peaked when they were around 28 and had started to fall away 4-5 years later. Again though, why would I expect any reason from you when all you ever show is vitriol towards anything to do with United. Tell you what, concentrate on your own team, you have enough problems to contend with as it is without nit picking about United. As happened last year, you will be all quiet again come May.

agreed i'd say defenders/gk's peak alot later, hey maldini still going strong :D

Maldini was never better than he was at 28 though, he was great and remained so for many many years but we aren't talking about length of peak here, we are talking about when players hit thier peak. Keepers are an exception granted but they are not outfield players and the injuries don't take a toll on thier bodies to the same extent. Defenders? Lee Dixon, Tony Adams, Monkeyface were all at thier very best between 28 and 32. I can pick out dozens and dozen of top defenders who all were at their best in that same timeframe.

That's because most defenders/keepers relies alot more on experience, than those on other positions.

It is said that a player hits his peak at 26-29, because the body is fully developed by then. Ronaldo COULD become a better player, however that requires so much of him mentally, now that he has won so many trophies/awards already.

Hunger may be the keyword for him :)

Wonk, thank god someone posted something sensible. Mentality and hunger are two massive components to long term progression as a player, the hunger I have no doubt about for Ronaldo and the mentality will come again either through a move to Madrid or a massive contract from United. Either way he will come again, probably never another 40+ goals a season but lets be real, he is a winger and 20 goals a season is a massive boost.

Can be said brazilians peak early then ruin themselves early as well. Ronaldo and Ronaldinho are good examples. Maybe its because they're so good they accomplish so much so early and get bored?

Perhaps, I also think part of it is that they come from countries with very laid back outlooks on life and they know how to enjoy life beyond just boozing like Brits. It is a shame regardless, Ronaldo was exceptional when he was younger and had he kept that level up for 3-4 more years he would have had to have been regarded right up there with Pele. As it stands he is in the bracket below for me personally. That doesn't mean he wasn't a great player though, just he could have gone a little bit further if he had the mentality of a Zola, Giggs or Bergkamp.

What have Southampton got to do with anything? Also, i don't dislike Man U any more than a number of teams supported by plastic fans.

Actually to be honest, and it may just be because I saw more of them because they played in England. Zola, Giggs and Bergkamp ARE better footballers than Ronaldo.

Its definitely because you saw them play. I don't think anyone seriously can say that otherwise, and still believe in what they just said :)

Giggs will be in that same frame once he actually quits.

I have been thinking about it more Lethul, and the things they did, over a full career, how professional they were, and they fact they did not waste their talent - for me that makes them much better footballers than Ronaldo. He is still one of the best strikers we have ever seen, but if you are talking true greats then I think he failed himself.

Can't really consider Ronaldo as the best player ever, when half of his career he's been on the stands with a busted knee

I have seen Ronaldo play on 5 occasions, twice in El Classico. ;)

I just posted that in the other thread, guess it belongs in this one. Man City really did not cope well in the second half. They should have held the ball better.

Bad draw for pool :(

But you have to beat the best if you wanna win so it doesn't matter that much imo.

Im really looking forward as a football fan to seeing Barca-Bayern

Seems like someone up there really want United to win the quintuple

There are no easy draws, eventually you have to play great sides to win this competition which is what makes it such a fasinating spectacle. Yes United got an easier run towards the final with this draw than Liverpool or Chelsea but that is just the luck of the draw. Either a side is good enough to win it or they aren't, you just beat what is put infront of you and then you are worthy winners.

That was what I said but with fewer words wasn't it? :)

Imagine if Liverpool won it now, first Real Madrid, then Chelsea, then Barcelona, then United (if my predictions go through ofc!). Thats though games :p

Not a bad draw for United, but Porto be no easy game. And most likely it be Arsenal after that if we get through, and they will have a full squad available more or less and with not competing for the league title they got a good chance of taking united out.

With that said we couldnt have asked for a better run in. Avoiding Liverpool, chelsea, Bayern and Barcelona. Wow. :)

Juventus > Liverpool> Barcelona > Manchester United. Effort!

Can't believe we play them for the 5 year running ( or for the 24th time in 5 seasons ) so bloody boring, especially when its a Euro comp. Oh well, 2nd leg is at home so i reckon we'll go through.

Utd have it too easy :( Porto will be a walk in the palk, i reckon it'll be over after the first leg. If it's Arsenal in the semis i wouldnt be suprised if they won though.
