That's not quite how England works these days Our anthem may say god save the Queen, but she doesn't actually do anything, or have any real power. Cept the power to claim any peice of land she likes etc. Anyway, wasn't the Queen opposed to the war?

What i mean is i did not agree whith Why Bush and Blair decided to attack but now its the people giving there lives to serve in the armed forces that are in there they deserve the UK support.

These morons who stand at Army bases and moan at the troops need to realise if they don't go to war they go to prision.

Yeah, the soldiers didn't make the decision and they are just doing what they are told to do - suppose the "right" way to support them is feeling sorry they had to go there and wish they get home alive (yet not supporting what they are doing). They dont deserve to get treated like Vietnam veterans who were "looser assholes" when they got home but they are not heroes either.

I didn't say that. I meant it's silly to assume someone doesn't care for his country simply because he doesn't agree with some of the things that go on there, like military actions.
Iraq wasn't necessary, they weren't a threat, and the whole weapons of mass destruction shit was based on nothing, which has been proven after the US decided to invade the country.
Now I'm not saying getting rid of Saddam was a bad thing, as he wasn't exactly the best leader a country could wish for, but saying it was necessary for countries like the US and UK to invade is bullshit.
Capturing soldiers does deserve response, but they should try to keep it diplomatic and the idea of bombing the place is just retarded.

On topic: not sure about all this, however all I can think of atm is that if we do go into Iran, we should go in, reduce thier ability to wage war to 0%, then leave them to it. Occupying a foreign country and trying to show them democracy is a noble but imo misguided - if they want democracy, just drop a leaflet on every town with words to the effect of "we've rendered you're dictator defenceless, if you want democracy, nows your chance to go and take it".

Obviously this would never happen though, too many people with an agenda. No idea whats going to happen in the middle east, only that its probably not going to be pretty.

The UK is still the 2nd highest net contributer to the EU even after the rebate though, and without it would by far and away be the largest net contributer, because we subsides all your arses out there and get squat back.

I've only got the 2005 figures to refer to and swedens TOTAL contribution was only about 10% of the uk contribution.. Although you could be talking net contribution as a percentage of total contribution. I was talking total net contribution..

THe uk was approximately 10 billion net contribution before rebate, so about 4.5bn afterwards. Germany was higher at about 7bn net, sweden was probably less than 1bn netherlands about 4 maybe.

Personally i think everyone shoudl get pissed off with france who pull huge agriculture subsadies and refuse to give them up, which is the reason why the UK won't give up it's rebate because we are sick to death of paying for french farmers to get pissed.

So then they expect the rest of the world to believe the "hostages" wrote those letters of their own free will. I also suspect the british servicemen were kidnapped to use in exchange for the Iranians who are being held by the USA, again failing miserably. I guess the Iranian PM just wanted to cut his losses

Agree mostly, however as far as I understand it the iranian PM is little more than an elected smooth talker - the supreme leader cleric type person seems to be the one calling the shots in iran, since I havent seen anything of him throughout all of this I would imagine he's the one behind it, with the PM basically being the one who goes on TV and gets people fired up about decisions that have already been made.

Iran hasnt done much more than piss people off, I reckon they're making as much fuss about this to try and distract people from the fact that they've still got a nuclear weapons program running.
